  1. The parts I am referring to are right in front of the front tires on either side and are sort of a curved triangular shaped piece of plastic. I'm sorry I am not describing this better. I will try and get a picture. Don't go to a lot of trouble trying to figure it out. It's my fault for not being more specific. It's not critical for now. I'll be back when I can better articulate what it is I am talking about. Thanks for your help
  2. As long as I am getting such great advice about other topics I thought I would run this by for comment Background - Car: 2001 Boxster S. 6-speed manual, 25,500 miles. Purchased in 2005 with 8300 miles on it. slightly modified by previous owner who was the owner of our local Porsche performance shop. Modifications include aftermarket K&N cold air intake, performance chip, aftermarket exhaust and suspension. No problem for the first 2 years or so. First indicator light I took it in to local Porshe dealer and they said it was a bad O2 sensor. I was a newbie and did not ask what the fault code was. They changed it ad charged me $600. Everything was good for about 6 months. Second CEL I got wise and got my own Code reader. It was a Proscan unit that indicated fault codes of 1128 and 1130. Based on information I got from PCA tech support I was pretty sure it was either a leaky oil separator bellows hose or the MAF sensor. I cleaned the MAF sensor put it back in and reset the codes. About two weeks later (about the time it takes for me to go through the driving cycles based on my driving pattern) the CEL light came on again. I figured the MAF was faulty and not just dirty so I ordered another one. I was told that the MAF unit in my car had been superseded by another part number (986-606-125-01). I had read that if the newer part were installed that the DME would need to be reprogrammed. I contacted PCA tech support again and asked if this was true, and they indicated that only cars built before January 2000 would need to have the DME reprogrammed so I felt I was good to go. Installed the new unit and in about 2 weeks, the CEL came on again. This time I had an indication of aging post cat O2 sensors. Both Banks. With only 25k miles on it I was doubtful that this was the problem, bu rationalized that it could be possible. I bit the bullet and replaced the post cat O2 sensors and two weeks later I got a new set of codes. This time I was using a Durametric Analyzer software version 5.1.4.0. The codes recorded were P0133 - Aging Oxygen Sensor Ahead of Cat. (Cylinders 1-3) below lower limit, P0420 - exceeds limit value, and P0430 - exceeds limit value. The car seems to be running fine and as a result, I have not done much to chase the problem, but I'm getting close to re-registering the car and need to track it down in order to pass smog. I was contemplating having the oil separator bellows hose replaced just as a matter of principal at my next oil change, but other than that, I am at a loss for what to do next. I am willing to try anything that is relatively easy that I may have overlooked, but otherwise I will need to take it in an have it thoroughly gone through to eradicate the problem once and for all. Any help or advice you might give would be appreciated. Thank you.

  4. I did some checking and it appears as though the price ranges from about $450 to $900 for used. Other than MY02 or newer does it matter which model is used i.e. GT2 vs standard Carrera. I have seen a lot of different clusters all with different part numbers so I'm really not sure if there is a compatibility problem. Thanks again

  6. Car Details: 2001 Boxster S, 25,500 mi. Std 6-speed manual transmission. I have a real problem relying on "idiot" lights and want to install additional gauges in my 2001 Boxster S. I have found that Autometer Ultralight II gauges have a relatively close font and illumination look to the stock gauges. I have located a DIN standard 3-gauge mounting bracket that fits directly in the slot occupied by the CD holder. I want to add 12 VDC, Oil Pressure, and Oil Temp in the three positions in the bracket. +12 VDC power and illumination should be easy to get from the radio, but I'm a little unsure about oil temp and pressure. Oil temp could and probably should be obtained from a new bung welded into the oil sump. Is there a better or easier location? AS for oil pressure, there is the possibility of (a) using a metric adapter to replace the existing sensor which will result in the dash light to not work, or (B) possibly locating an adapter and sensor in the oil pressure test location. Since I am not using vdo meters (only because they don't make one to match the existing gauges) I cannot use the existing sensors and will, as mentioned, need to have metric adapters that can couple to standard Autometer sensors. Has anyone done this before? Is there an easier way to do this?
  7. On my 2001 Boxster S underneath the car as part of the plastic underside shield, there are two smaller molded plastic vents, one on each side near the nose. My car has been lowered by a previous owner and these vents have been worn badly due to scraping underneath going over bumps and such. It looks like the plastic pieces have a base of about 12"x14" and the vents are molded onto the base. I'm not sure exactly what the vents are covering, but it looks like a sensor of some sort. I would like to replace them, but I don't know what part number to order. Any ideas?

  9. 2001 Boxster S. 25,500 miles. Manual Transmission. Aftermarket exhaust from previous owner who owns local Porsche performance shop. I am getting these codes and am wondering what this combination might be indicative of. I was previously getting P1128 and P1130 codes which led me to believe the MAF sensor was bad. Changed that out with th new upgraded version and was told by PCA tech support that based on my VIN number DME programming was not required. Any ideas?
