  1. Is it possible to swap the left and right rear tires halfway through the tires expected usable life to double the usability? This way the inboard side of one tire gets transferred to the out board side to balance the wear. No rotational issues, so, why not?
  2. Thanks! I should have mentioned that the motor is.out of the car So that's why the suspension looks wonky! There really is.no Orange peeling on the paintwork. The real question is, could one have ordered a widebody in 1990 as a custom or special order regardless of the fact that they were not offered by Porsche as a production run? Maybe it's the relatively low quality of the photo, but the paint on that rear quarter looks horrendous--the reflections seem to show massive amounts of orange peel. There's something wonky about the rear suspension as well. The front is lowered, and the rear looks like a 4x4. Unless you mechanic is a former body man with a paint meter in his toolbox, get a body shop to give you the real lowdown on the body of that car. Wouldn't Porsche be able to deliver information on options added to the car via their certificate of authenticity service? If it's meaningful to you to know, that might be a good way to find out. I assume your mechanic has done a PPI on the car. What does he say about the awkward suspension? How does the car check out otherwise? The extra inches of sheetmetal and tire aren't worth it if the car has been otherwise abused, IMO. Mark
  3. Here's the thing. Several people have contacted me to inform me that there is no way this vehicle is a factory wide body, since there were no wide body 964s offered by porsche in 1990. My porsche mechanic says the body is authentic. I have every last receipt from this car since it had 5,000 miles on it, documenting all services from warranty work to major engine overhauls, but no receipt or mention of body work. I have heard others say that maybe it was a special order car. Is it possible that even though there was no "production run" 964 wide body made available by porsche, that one could order the wide body as a "special order" thus accounting for the existence of this vehicle? We have run the vin and the vehicle comes back as a normal body C2. Any ideas??
  4. Thanks for your help!
  5. Thanks MagCuda for your earlier reply. I have offered this car for sale on ebay, and have been informed that there was no widebody 964 availble in 1990. The vin confirms the year, and the wide body has been authenticated by two separate Porsche specialists. What's the deal? Can't you order a widebody anytime you want to? Does anyone know how to confirm this car was a factory widebody? Thanks! G
  6. My mechanic tells me my beloved 964 wide body needs a 14 thousand dollar engine rebuild. If I invest that much, the car, a 1990 factory wide body with 155k on it, is worth maybe 20k. My option is to sell it as is, and I wonder what the chassis might bring. It is good condition, no rust, a few resprays for minor very minor body damage. Any thoughts?? Thanks! G
  7. Hi, Does anyone have any comment on quality and weight of Axis Penta rims? I currently have the 19 inch porsche 997 turbo wheels on my 2006 997s but don't love the look. If I go to the Axis penta rim, am I giving anything up? Also, is anyone interested in the turbo rims? I also have the original rims availble, but they are a fairly well beat up! Thanks! -G
  8. I just got my 2006 997s which I purchased sight unseen, from a dealer in Michigan. The car has 46,000 miles on it and is still under warranty. It looks flawless and drives very well, but I noticed that it was a bit low on oil so added a quart. When I removed the oil fill cap, I was surprised to see the milky white evidence of moisture and three or four drops of water-based fluid in the oil fill orifice. Is this normal?? Thanks!
