  1. Thanks Mike. That is bad news because I'm not interested in shelling out $300x4 to keep TPMS working with a spare set of wheels. I'm also not too keen on loading aftermarket electronics (receiver) into the system. I guess I'll turn off the alarm that tells to when pressure is low. Mike I also see that you're in NC. I'm up here in Boston, but purchased my Cayenne from Porsche of Hilton Head. They were good to deal with. Much different than my local dealer. I end up driving 50+ miles away to the next closest P-car dealer to get her serviced just to avoid the local dealer. Off topic I know, but felt is was appropriate to give them props since they're in your neck of the woods.

I'm still trying to assemble my winter tire/wheels and although it appears that my "tire & wheel spacer" thread is dead and have not found a useful solution for the offset and spacers, I have an equally challenging situation with the TPMS. Has anyone heard of or used any aftermarket TPSM sending units? OEM replacements of each wheel sensor run $300 (or so I'm told) I'm not going to swap out the old sensors on the new wheels because I want a dedicated summer/winter set. Any suggestions? Specifically, what frequency is OEM spec.? and will the receiver automaticaly pick up the new sensors once installed, or do they need to be "paired" like a bluetooth device?
  3. Whiskey, I assume that you have a new 2011, not a leftover 2010, correct? I have no personal experience with such fitment (pre-2010 wheels on a 2011MY), but I've been researching wheel fitment for my 2008 Turbo and have stumbled upon many opinions regarding the new generation of Cayennes (even some citing Porsche TCBs), all of which conclude that you MUST stick with MY2010 wheels. They cite weight, balance among the primary reasons, but there may be some fitment issues as well. I don't think it's an attempt to keep Porsche's revenue stream going by selling more spares. Maybe the hub is a different size. If it were me in your shoes, I would not want to be the first test-monkey shot into space in the event it goes horribly wrong - IMHO. Ask you dealer to print out a relevant TSB if you can't fine on heer or on the web. How do you like the new Cayenne though?
  4. Well, I received the new 20" GTS wheels. All 4 are 9x20 ET60. No tires mounted yet, but will ilkely go w/ Pirelli Scorpions. Current Sport Plus wheels are: 10x21 ET45-Rear 10x21 ET50-Front Although the new wheels clear brakes, hoses and other suspension components with no problem, the stance will be all wrong with new 60mm offset using the new wheels. I have wheel arch extensions and the new wheels will appear too narrow (being retracted from the outer wheel arch by 23mm in front and 28mm in rear). I used this ET offset calculator: http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp Not looking to get crazy with widening the track, but it appears that I'll need a minimum of 23mm spacers at front and 28mm at rear to keep the stock track and stance. I see that H&R sells a "Track +" spacers of all different widths. I also understand that there is a TSB floating around that suggests that maximum spacer of 17mm should be used (if the existing bolts are being used). It seems as though I'll have to consider the "DRA" type spacer that bolts directly to the axle, then the wheel bolts to the spacer. I realize that there are other mitigating factors such as if the new wheels have the proper recesses to receive the bolt heads protruding from the spacer face when mounted etc. Also need to make sure that I order the correct bolt length and shoulder type. Does this make sense to anyone out there? Most importantly, is this a big "no-no" in terms of safety, warranty etc.? I'm mostly looking for a few opinions regarding the basis for these assumptions (ET offest calculations and the applicability of H&R spacers) thanks in advance, -A
  5. Couple of more questions for you guys: I intend on setting up the winter tires/wheels a a complete stand-alone set and don't want to swap the TPMS sending units. What do you recommend for a TPMS sending unit in the new wheels? Can I go with a universal aftermarket sending unit, or will the Porsche TMPS only work with Porsche sending units? I imagine the Porsche units are well over $100/ea. Also, I just noticed that the offset on the stock "sport" rims (the ones w/20spokes that look like a turbine found mostly on the Turbo S) on my urbo are: ET50 on the front ET45 on the rear Therefore, I would assume that as you stated Loren, that 60mm offset on the new wheels will be fine. I guess I'll see when I receive them
  6. I am looking into ordering a set of winter wheels/tires for my 2008 Cayenne Turbo. I know there has been much said about the suspect quality of non-OEM wheels, but unless anyone has direct experience with this particular supplier, we can (for the sake of discussion) assume that these wheels are legit. I currently run the stock 21" sportplus wheels and although I have the sport design package and wheel arch extentions, I do NOT have the ceramic brakes or the Turbo S brake setup. Just stock turbo brakes. Do I need a spacer with an offset of 60 on 9" rims? if so, what size? Has anyone set their turbo up similarly? My thought was to go with one size down rim (20" vs. 21") because we are plagued with bad asphalt up here in New England and for the winter season at least, more sidewall is a better way to go. I'm also going with black so that it won't show the road grime (and also they will look pretty aggressive on the white Cayenne) I'll tackle tire selection later, but my first thought was Scorpions. Any helpful input or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks, -A
  7. THanks Loren. It's been almost a week and nothing. So maybe it was a one-time software error. I will do as you instructed when I see the tech.
  8. Randomly yesterday, my PCM screen read some error message to the effect of "Amplifier, CD Changer, Navigation ....not found". I turned the iginition off, opened the rear CD changer to see of something had come loose, or the cartridge was ejected, but that was fine. Started the car and the same error message came across the screen. I played with a few buttons on the bottom (Main Menu, Phone, Nav, etc) and still nothing. I put the truck in reverse and the rear camera triggered the screen to show the path behind me. Shut the iginition off again and it worked when I turned it on. No problem since. I have a 2008 CTT w/ factory phone unit module and handset, rear view camera, nav and aftermarket Tookie for the phone only. Tookie was the only aftermarket item (installed by the Porsche dealer). It wasn't extremely cold or hot that day if that can sometimes be a factor. What happened? is this a common occurrence? What should I do next time. Was wondering if it is a linkage issue having to do with optic cables or something, or maybe a software error? My Benz used to pull this sort of drama when it was below zero once in a while! I'm going in for routine service soon and want to have an idea what to tell the tech.
  9. Thanks guys, that makes me feel better. Also, don't want to sound like a total choad when I present my laundry-list of warranty items that need addressing at my local dealer! Tires were brand new (color lines still evident on treads) when I took delivery. Though the TPSM is incorrectly indicating low air pressure, I manually check them often, rears @ 39lbs and fronts @ 40lbs....right on the money. Maybe I need to stay off the loud-pedal and save my tires.......no f**k*** way!, this thing is too much fun to open up! I guess I'll have to come to terms with a set or two of tires per year. Outside of the tires being the apparent suspect of the black dots (which I now completely believe to be the case), what is normal oil consumption for a 4.8 DI turbo?
  10. Loren, good point. I hadn't thought of that. Still, a little strange that tire dust would really stick to the paint (you have to wipe the dots off with soapy water, they don't just dust off). I'm running OEM spec P-Zeros. Do the tired really degrade THAT quickly? It's not like I'm drifting into corners. I try to keep the agressive driving to a minimum b/c I know these units consume expensive tires & brakes pretty quickly. Again, thanks for the input, I don't want to go into the P-car dealership demanding that they look for oil consumption when it's something as simple as tire dust adhering to the paint. I'll look again more closely to see if they smear like greasy oil, or simply flake off like rubber.
  11. I have put about 2,000 miles on a 2008 CTT since purchasing it in March with roughly 30,000 miles. It's white, so EVERYTHING shows up on the paint, even after a 2-minute trip, the rear gate/window area is already dusty/sooty. However, what is kinda troubling is that after opening it up on the highway, there is always evidence of little black oily dots on the rear. Not raw oil, more like a sooty, dried dot the size of a pin head. The rear is not completely covered, but with white paint they show up around the place where the Cayenne badge is located. there's no evidence of any smoke or oil smell when started or even revved, but I'm concerned that it uses a little too much oil at higher RPM under load (accelerating onto the highway etc.)There is the possibility that the oil/soot spots I see on the rear are coming from someplace other than exhaust discharge (like when the RMS was going bad on my 996), but I just wanted to get a sense for whether or not I should puch the service tech/department to look into the issue. I have not changed the oil since I've owned it, but the level is towards the low end of the range on the dip stick. I'm bringing it in for service soon. What should I be asking the tech? has anyone dealt with this before, or am I being overly concerned about something that is totally normal? How much oil should a turbo consume normally?......maybe the black dots are not oil, but soot from the cats just getting blown out?....I don't know, that's why I'm asking here.
  12. Hi there Since I'm new here , I'll introduce myself. Although I've owned many P-cars, this will be my first Cayenne. Have kids now, so it's hard to stuff growing twin boys in the back of a 993! I'm not an internet junkie and tend not to live in these forums, but good forums are invaluable for specialty cars. Recently sold a vintage BMW and still stay in touch with board members from e9coupe.com. The knucklehead / key-board-tuff-guy factor was very low on the E9 forum and everyone on the board was a true enthusiast. Hope Renntech has a similar membership base and look forward to contributing/sharing with you guys. Taking delivery of a 2008 Turbo in two days (white w/Chestnut/black interior). Pretty impressive build-sheet for a non-turboS upwards of $128,000 original MSRP. I can't believe Porsche robs its customers of $1,100 for sport tail pipes! (why are these so special?) In any event I'm stoked about the new Cayenne and can't wait to mat the loud pedal! I'm not the type that likes to go modding out my cars and generally like to keep a correct OEM look to whatever I drive. However, the only thing that I would consider changing on my new White Turbo is having the grill inserts painted to match the exterior color (white) or maybe that matte silver that you sometimes see on earlier Turbo S models. My questions are: -Did Porsche offer whatever color grill inserts you wanted from the factory (not just black), or was this only a TurboS thing?, thus was N/A in 2008? -Any opinions on whether the grill inserts should be white or that alumimun look (my Sportplus wheels are standard alloy color and I have the stainless steel skid plates, so maybe the aluminum color?) -Is there a paint code or a close match to the aluminum color? -Would I be better off simply ordering the painted grills from Porsche instead of having somebod screw up a paint job? -How ridiculously difficult is it to remove these grill centers? Again, I don't want to get crazy modifying a tastefully-optioned Cayenne, but thought aluminum or white center grill(s) would.....as the Dude says in The Big Lebowski "Really tie the room together".
