  1. The parts go inside the bay of the soft top as the top is being lowered. There is a left & right side. The previous owner pulled them out as they are broken but never replaced them. I need to know what funtion they perform as they also have a spring. Also, how to install them. PART# 996.561.061.02 996.561.062.02 Thanks, Harry
  2. Just noticed a whining pump sound coming from the front wheel wells on my 1999 996 cab. At idle, the sound is audible on both sides. Never heard this sound before.............or just haven't noticed this sound. Most recent repair was the water pump, and yesterday a new battery. It's NOT the cooling fans in the front, but it sounds like a pump. Maybe the fuel pump??? Again, never noticed this before. Also, peeking under the front spoiler, I also noticed a sort of brass cylinder type part with wires. It was hot to the touch. What is this part located just bellow the front radiators. It's closed off on one side, but has wires coming out of the other side. Thanks again!
  3. After a recent water pump replacement on my 1999 996, I filled the resovoir with 50/50 antifreeze as per instructions. The plastic high pressure releif valve keeps lifting indicating very high pressure in the tank. I believe that I may still have air in the system and that's why the valve extends upward after driving the car a few miles. This valve never lifted prior to the water pump R & R. Also, temperature at a red light creeps up to the middle of the zero at the "180" mark with A/C on. What is the normal operating temperature? Also, what is the correct procedure to purge the air out of the cooling system? Thanks, Harry
  4. I just replaced my water pump on my 1999 996. I was wondering if I should have replaced the thermostat as well? I'm a bit concerned that I did not. Thanks, Harry
  5. Looking for the DIY alternator R & R instructions for a 1999 996 3.4 6 speed. Thanks,
  6. I recently replaced the starter and then I had a CEL. After taking the vehicle to a local European car mechanic, he located the vaccuum leak with a smoke machine and told me that I broke the power brake booster fitting while installing the starter and so the reason for the CEL. OK, he replaced that fitting a week ago. So now I'm getting the CEL again and I took the car back this morning to check the error code. Now this mechanic is saying that the CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY should be updated to the newer style. This "KIT" consist of a SHUT OFF VALVE, HOSE, AIR TUBE, and DISTRIBUTOR HOUSING. Total cost $ 900.00 Is this true that the older 996's should be retrofitted with this new style emission configuration? My plan is to order a Durametric and really check the codes for myself. Does anyone have the actual part numbers that I need for the parts described? How much of a big deal is this job going to be? Does it sound right? Is it common? Thanks, 1999 3.4 cab 996
  7. That is how it is supposed to operate. If you arm it and leave it for a period of time, you must use the key to open the car. After normal use, this is reset and will work as normal. No issues...Just how it was designed to work. Good luck. DC OK!!! THANKS!!!
  8. After the car was sitting in my garage for 1 week without driving, I decided to go for a drive when the factory alarm would not dis-arm itself after pressing the key button. It would not dis-arm and open the doors. I then manually open the driver's door with the key into the keyhole. I fired her up with no problem. Then, I tried arming and disarming the alarm with the key button with NO PROBLEM. What happened? Is it because I had not activated the alarm for a while that the factory alarm would not engage? No, it's not the key battery because it's brand new. Thanks, 1999 cab 996
  9. GREAT! But I need the location of the oil switch. Thanks!
  10. Hey Guys! I may have a small leak at the oil pressure switch. Looking for the DIY instructions. Has anyone done this job before? How difficult is it? Thanks, 1999 996 cab 3.4
  11. Where do I look for any damage to the oil filler tube? Would this cause a CEL? Thanks
  12. Hey Guys, I was wondering if after installing the starter, I now have an air leak causing the CEL. How do you deterimine the proper angle of the throttle body when bolting it back to the intake base. Also, I had a bit of a time centering the intake prior to bolting back the throttle body. One more thing, when I fire her up for the first time, the engine turns right over but revs up to about 2000 rpm's on a cold engine without ever applying any gas pedal. Is this normal to have it rev that high on the initial start? Engine at idle has a very small miss it seems because the rpm needle fluctuates very little. I may have to spring for the Durametric and go from there. Thanks,
  13. Thanks Ivangene! Wow that's way back up in there. Would the code reader determine a AOS fault if there is a CEL?
