  1. unless there are different specs for Canadian cars, they seem to "max out" at 93AON. That extra "point" probably won't make a difference.
  2. IIRC, they latch in much the same way as the hardtop, with the obvious exception of not latching into the windscreen. I don't believe they were more than $2000 painted. The only caveat was being able to store them - the top obviously would not go up with the speed humps in place, and I *think* they maybe bearly fit in the trunk of the 986. Perhaps a 986 owner could enlighten us.
  3. How long after the 1st Gen boxsters came out did they wait to release the "speedster humps" ? I would have thought those would be out for the 987 Boxster by now.
  4. I'm thinking the big red exclamation points are not a good thing...
  5. I've seen this on some of the other boards, it is either a coin holder or just "cup" that replaces the ashtray in the center console. Is this available for the 9x7s?
  6. This is my first convertable and I want to make sure it lasts .. from your experience (outside of the smell), about how long does this fabric protectant work for? Manufacturers sometimes put ... misleading ... information on their products (lasts a really long time, or only lasts 3 weeks so use more). I never drive the car in rain and keep it parked in a garage. My enemies are fine particle dust and sunlight.
  7. Not sure if there are any official service types on the board, so an opinion from a non-official service type would suffice: 7/05 9112 says "Mod B" is hardware specific and will not work with older versions of hardware, don't try to apply it to units with "Mod A". This Hardware/Firmware only works with 04.2005 nav discs provided by Porsche. 12/05 9110 says that a unit must be upgraded to "Mod A" before it can receive "Mod B" and will work regardless to the version of hardware that is installed. Any hardware with Mod B firmware will work with 04.2005 discs. Two different stories, same firmware. What gives?
  8. There are several TSBs indicating the firmware is updated, and they even elude to bringing a unit with the "old" firmware (such as mine) up to the newest "Mod B" firmware via bringing it to "Mod A" first. I've requested these parts from Sunset Imports as my dealer has given me the "whachutalkinbout Willis" look when it comes to upgrading the firmware. So long as they aren't $50 a pop, I may order them and "risk" the upgrade manually. I'll definitely post whether or not MP3 capabilities are available, but I'm not holding my breath.
  9. Apparently the "nav update" is a seperate CD that is used to bring the unit's firmware to an updated level. I've had no luck in getting my service guy to perform such an update. They have some half-cocked answer from Porsche tech line that is a little ambiguous (they asked which version of DVD maps I should use, and tech line responded with the correct answer but didn't advise about any software updates at all).
  10. Considering it says you are from Texas, I would love to read the story of what happened to this punk.
  11. Part eleventeen of this epic saga: I casually mentioned the TSBs related to upgrading software on the PCM2.1 units (1/04 9110 and 12/05 9110) and I believe I have officially received the "whachutalkin'bout Willis?" look from the service guys. My unit is currently on SWVer 1.0 (04035AD1) and needs to be brought to Mod A so it can be brought to Mod B so I can get this new DVD to work, so the TSB story goes. When you're getting the blank looks back from the dealer (aforementioned whachutalkin'bout Willis), what does one do? These update CDs appear to be provided to Porsche "free" per the TSB. Is it possible I could "locate" one and simply follow the directions myself for the update? Any help is appreciated. ps thanks for your infinite patience Loren!
  12. .. I was thinking of getting a generic car cover as opposed to one advertising there was a Porsche beneath. Better yet, maybe a Ford emblem or a "Pinto" stencil would work just as well... hmm.
  13. That was one of the first places I went, and it did answer a lot of questions so far as the parts were concerned along with the general installation instructions. My questions were really stemming from the TSB itself. The TSB states the PCM should be 997.642.101.11.FMH but in TSB 1/04 9110 states PN 997.642.131.05 are "no longer available once existing supplies are used up" (perhaps I am answering my own question). I am assuming that this P/N will work fine and just need an updated driver per 1/04 9110. So I may have very well answered my own P/N compatibility question. :clapping: With respect to locking/coding of these units, I'm interested in steps 11.1 - 11.6 in section "Code PCM2.1 and navigation module using PIWIS Tester." 11.2 Says to select gateway & code 11.3 CU and code 11.4 CU & code 11.5 CU & code Are these "codes" simply machine addresses on the BUS, or are they the antitheft codes or things of that nature. I didn't recall getting an antitheft radio lecture when I picked up the car (like one would on a BMW circa 1991) explaining what my "code" was if the battery were to be replaced. Thanks again for the help. :notworthy:
  14. so I'm still on this quest to shoehorn a PCM2.1 unit into this 2005 987S. One thing I have failed to ask before aquiring the PCM2.1 head unit (to replace the CDR24) is: What sort of key coding do I need in order to unlock the unit, if anything? I would image that one simply cannot plug this bad boy in, tell the PIWIS it is there, and you'd be off and running. Also, I don't think I have a clear grasp on the difference between the head units themselves. I have PN 997-642-131-05 which appears to be a relatively up to date PCM2.1 unit. I'm wondering if this unit will work in the 987, or if the 987 is restricted to one type of PCM unit? Sorry for all of the questions, I am completely in the dark when it comes to M.O.S.T./Fiber Optic technology.
  15. Ok I'll get it, and if it doesn't work I'll just blame you for being so helpful :D (j/k). As always, thanks again. This is by far one of the more useful websites I've encountered. I just wish I actually had something to contribute outside of my endless questions!
  16. .. potentially going through the same thing, and am curious to know if you have a typo in the PN you have vs. the PN you were told you needed; they appear to be the same??
  17. Thanks .. I suppose I meant to ask, are they interchangeable; would the xxx.03 unit work in lieu of an xxx.04 unit, or are we talking about some firmware or mechanical difference between the units that would prevent backwards compatibility? Thanks for fielding my questions, I genuinely appreciate it.
  18. 997.642.135.03 Was it replaced by 997.642.135.04?
  19. Can anyone lookup & xref the following part: 997.642.131.05 Unit is sitting in front of me unplugged, a PCM 2.1 w/ MFG date of 20/04. Any details on where it came from would be appreciated.
  20. so pardon me for being a neophite, but on the 987/S, doesn't WOT=WOT or 100% engaged regardless of whether or not you have a clock on the dashboard or not? In other words, when I mash on the go pedal in a car w/ sports chrono vs a car without, I wouldn't expect a difference as my right foot would be firmly planted in the 100% position ... ?? The PSM intervention is fully understood and can sort of see the benefit if you are tracking the car. Also if this is an option without the clock on the dash, would it stand to reason that one could simply have this added after the fact, as it appears that most of the functionality appears to be engaged from a stalk off of the steering wheel anyway? So many questions ... Thanks again, Matt
  21. So I'm reading around on Porsche NA's website about the neat options I didn't get on the car, one of which was the bump in the dash called the sports chrono package (or something to that effect). One of the things it provides is a "more agressive throttle response" .. what the heck, so those of us that have had our dashboard boils lanced get sluggish throttle response? How the heck does one go about getting said "better" response without the pain of a giant analog clock in the middle of the dash. :cursing: More interesting is the new 997TT - only with the sports chrono package do you get the "10 second overboost" (or whatever) condition.
  22. .. ok, so call me slow but: "Reach under the underside of the 2nd slat....!?" I suppose if you've done this before, you might know what that translates to. Following these directions, it feels as if I am about ready to remove the frame in more than one piece. Is it really stuck in there that good, or have I not reached under the underside properly..
  23. ... standard? Maybe MY06 and beyond ... how about a P/N & retail $$ for a retrofit. Flipping the mirror gets old after awhile.
