  1. I just saw that Sunset Porsche is now offering "update kits" for both the rear and the front bumper to 997.2 spec as bundles. Of course it's all a matter of taste. But if I were unfortunate enough to have a crumpled bumper, I'd look at updating to the factory LEDs...
  2. So... Will "wide body" OEM wheels fit "narrow body" cars without any (offset) issues? I'm enchanted by the new "911 Sport Classic" (Fuchs knock-offs) wheels. I understand that they are "wide body only". I'd love to build my own C2S.1 "Sport Classic". I'd prefer the quality "OEM" parts to do it for the most part.
  3. I've been looking for a "whiter" driving light bulb, too. Sylvania doesn't appear to offer a "Silverstar" in the H8(?) bulb. I think the Silverstars run closer to the 4k-4.5k light range, but I don't see anyone who offers it (Hella, Sylvania, others?). Would be interested to hear a brand/part no. from anyone who has found something that looks good.
  4. Yes! Or an XM receiver/interface would be even better (than the placement in front of the shifter out in the open--with the tacked-on look).
  5. Really bizarre! I think something similar happened to me about two weeks ago in my 2005 Carrera S. I washed and was thoroughly waxing the car during the weekend. I spent some extra time on the front bumper, given it's level of abuse on the road. At the end of the day, I had the same fault warning pop up. As a result, I bought a Durametric cable. Codes that appeared included: 8042 (front luggage compartment unlocking implausible signal), 8043 (front luggage compartment latch hook upper limit value exceeded), 8007 (gateway incorrect coding implausible signal), 8005 (terminal S value below lower limit value), C127 (communication front control unit upper value limit exceeded). I was able to clear all of the fault codes that came up and have seen no more fault light. I'd swear I heard a "click" noise while I was waxing the frong bumper with a microfiber cloth. Thought it must have been my imagination. When I heard the click, my instinct was that an airbag was going to deploy (I know they have speed sensors and the ignition key was in my pocket). When I refuel my airplane, I hook up a static ground. Maybe I need to do the same for my Porsche?!
  6. So far, all I can see is: C152 (air bag) Message Timeout PSM Steuergeraet (“Tax Device”) ??? While I was waxing the front bumper (near the driver's-side headlight) I thought I heard a "click" as the bumper deformed slightly (and then sprung right back into position). The first thing that went through my head was "an airbag is going to go off". But, the key was in my pocket and the car was parked. I passed it off as my imagination, but then the "Fault" message. Could I have triggered an airbag sensor with the car off and the key in my pocket?!
  7. Sorry, it appears in the combination display on the tachometer. It shows an image of a box with a lightning strike or electrical ground and says something like, "System Fault. Visit service center." When I pull the on-board computer lever to acknowlege the message, the red exclamation point stays illuminated on the tach face. Watching the exclamation point turn on and off intermittently based upon whether I am decelerating or turning left makes me believe this is related to a fluid level. (Like watching an old-school fuel gauge rise and fall based upon centrifugal forces affecting the fuel in the tank.) I had a local guy plug a Snap-On "Ethos" DME reader in. The only thing he could make sense out of was a "$ 11" message. The only thing that I can relate that to is either, (a) a variable cam timing problem or (b ) "position of camshaft in relation to crankshaft, Bank 1 Below limit". Neither of those problems makes sense to me, given the intermittent nature of the fault code while driving (or that the error comes on even before I start the engine). Durametric cable is on the way...
  8. Legal Disclaimer: I haven't gotten my hands on a Durametric yet, and I live several hours from the nearest Porsche dealership... go easy on me. Spent a weekend washing the car and I suddenly had a Fault Message pop up when I turned the ignition on (before starting the engine). It appears in the combination display on the tachometer. Double checked all my fluids (oil, hydraulic, brake, coolant, windshield wash), gas cap, tires, xenon-light-leveling, and everything else I could think of. Pressures and temps all appear okay. The message stays on at idle and during acceleration. It turns off some times when I slow down or corner to the left with any force, and then returns when I start to accelerate or maintain speed. It seems as if it is related to a fluid level sensor because of this behavior. Any ideas?
