  1. Folks, Would have that this would have been a well reviewed topic, but after searching a number of different ways both here and the DIY sections, I'm not finding what I am looking for. Last week I noticed my range of distance on my key fob seemed to be getting weaker. I assumed it to the be the battery as I am the original owner of the car (2002) and it has never been replaced. I replaced the battery gently, using a Duracell DL2032 vs OEM panasonic CL2032..which I believe should be compatible? Now the remote does not work. Does the key need to be reprogramed by a technician after replacing the battery? My spare key works fine so the electronics are operating as designed. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!
  2. Folks, Hopped into my car this morning to discover that my PSE electronics are not functioning. Car defaults to loud and when I press the dash button to quiet the exhaust nothing happens. Indicator light comes on when the dash button is pushed, but nothing changes at the exhaust. I looked at the fuse box to see if there was an issue there, but everything seems in order. Any similar experiences by anyone here and suggestions as to what the issue could be? Car is extremely low mile (20k), so the issue should not be wear. I am suspecting electronics or vacuum problem with the baffles ?? Any thoughts? Thanks in advance Jay
  3. Folks, Does anyone have a Durametric or PST2 tester in the Orange County, CA area that could be used to check an airbag failure fault that I have? Not sure how difficult of a process this is to check, but I will thank anyone in advance for guidance and help. Car is an 2002 996. Thx. Jay
  4. Loren, I have the Airbag disable bar for child seat option and decided last weekend to remove the bar, in which I simply removed the seatbolts and unplugged the wires and now my AIRBAG FAILURE light is on. I installed the bar a couple years ago, but never used the child seat in the front. As a result, I never had the dealer activate the option within the sofware as I was told I needed to do in order for the option to funtion properly. Given this, I am not sure why the fault is now on after removing it? Does the now loose plug need to be plugged into something eles or removed? Wil the fault clear it self over time (I have not driven the car since it came on), or do I just need to take my car to the dealer and have the fault cleared? Thanks in advnace. R1STCARRERA
  5. Has anyone done this? More specifically, I am trying to find out how and in what order you remove the interior parts to gain access too and replace the rear (passenger side) seat belt. Again its a 2002 cab. Thanks in advance for anyones guidance.
  6. Folks, I have a 2002 Cab with rear a seatbelt that will not retract. Looking for some instructions on how to remove the seat belt (passenger side rear)and replace. Anyone done this? Thanks in advance!
  7. Folks, I noticed today, that my drivers side window on my 02 Cab now moves up and down intermittenly while driving (about half an inch-like when opening and closing the door. The interior lights come on as well. It seems to happpen most while making even a slight right hand turn. In fact if heading down a straight stretch of road, I can turn my wheel slightly to the right and the window will start moving up and down erratically. From this thread, it appears there are three microswitches that can effect the window movement. Anyone care to guess which one could be failing here? It seems like a loose connection as it only seems to happen when the body weight of the car is to the drivers side. The door is not rattleing or moving at all to suggest it could be a problem with the door lock. Any thoughts? I would like to see if I could fix myeslf before handing the dealer my wallet. Thanks in advance, JS
  8. Folks, I am looking for Porsche production numbers. Specifically the follwing two. 2004 Turbo cab 2004 turbo cab with x50 option I have searched quite a bit and cant find this info. Anybody know where I can find it? Thanks in advance JS
  9. Folks, I am toying with the idea of changing my wheels on my car. The wheels I am considering are the Kinesis F110's (http://www.kinesismotorsport.com/f110.htm) The sizes are 19x11 rear with 305x25x19- tires and 19x8.5 front with 225x30x19. The rear tires seem wide for a narrow body 996 but they swear they fit. I am looking for some general feedback as to whether this is a good move or not. I really like the wheels but do have some concerns about ride, as I expect it to be a bit more rough and also the ride height. In other words, would I need to lower my car to make it look right? I would rather not. What do you folks think? Also, can you provide me with any pictures of a narrow body 996 with 19's on it that has NOT been lowered. Thanks in advance. Jay
  10. Folks, I am interested in the B&M Short Shift as my next mod on my 02- 996. According to B&M and their install instructions (which I read through) , this is a 1 hour plus job for someone that is competent with tools. Out of curiosity, I called my local non-dealer Porsche service center and asked them how much they would charge to do the install. They quoted me 3 hours at $110 an hour. Thats a lot of dough for something the manufacturer suggests should take a little over an hour for a novice. Now I am a bit confused. Either B&M is underestimationg the time and qualifications for DIY or this mechanic is out of their minds. For those of you who have done it, particularly as a DIY, can you set me straight here? Is it as easy as the manual and instructions suggest? Thanks in advance
  11. That is a false ETA. Michelin states that there are no 285/30/18 PS ribs in NA and there estimated time of getting them is undetermined.
  12. Just spoke to Michelin and they have no tires available in NA. They are directing me to PCNA. They tried to make it very clear that this is a Porsche problem not Michelin. What should I do?
  13. Does PCNA have any obligation here? They have specified a unique sized tire for this car and now they are not available. I am sure that under normal circumstances Porsche would NOT recomend mixing different tire brands front to rear. I am just pissed that I now either have to buy 4 new tires or have different brands. This is poor planning on someones part(either Michelin or Porsche) and it will suck if I have to pay the price for it. JS
  14. Folks, I need new tires for my rears. Michelin Pilot Sport (Rib)- 285/30/18. I have checked Tire Rack and Discount Tire and they are indefinitely out of stock. They have told me that I have to go through my local dealer. I have called the dealer and they are now directing me to PNA. It appears the dealers have no access to the tires as well. If Porsche cannot produce the OE Tires then I am forced to put an alternate brand on the rear or replace all four. Either option, I am not particularly happy with. Shouldn't Porsche have some responsibility here? Any advice would be appreciated
