  1. Well the only thing for sure I have is the 1 hz. so I am going to try replacing the temp. sensor. There are a few other parts I want to order at the same time. Sunset is open tomorrow from 10 to 2.Is there someone who could help me or give me access to a program so I can get the correct name and number for the parts? Thanks, Robert.
  2. I am trying to measure them right now in case someone comes up with them. You have to be a contortionist. I will have to remove it to test it hot because their is too much exhaust around it.
  3. Logray- Any luck with some of those resistances for troubleshooting? FOR Loren-DO you still think it might be the level indicator or should I lean to the temp sensor even though it reads ok the flashing of the light seems to be in sync with that?
  4. With all the fine minds out there we should be able to beat this. I know lots of you are smarter than the dealers mechanics. HELP PLEASE
  5. Well I don't know if this means anything but I unplugged the level senor and it still started flashing at the same temp. If you look at the video it sure doesn't look like it is flashing fast, does it?
  6. This is before disconnecting- and this is after I unplugged the temp. sensor
  7. I ran the car till the light started flashing and everything is like it was and then I unplugged the coolant Temp. sensor and the light kept blinking but the dash gauge went to zero. I took a video of before and after but the site said they were too large. One at 21meg and the other at 25 meg. I would like to post them. Is there a trick? or do I have to use some third party site which I don't belong to any. Thanks, Robert BTW- The started flashing at a little lower temp. this time. 96c with Durametric @ ECTS, 98c @ A/C hack, and 90c oil with Durametric. I want to post those videos. I also cleaned up that ground point before doing this.
  8. .jpg]Does anyone know what the grounding point is for in this photo? It is on the passenger side towards rear of car. It is right above what I believe is the oil pump. When I was chking the coolant temp. sender I can see this grounding point which has a bunch of oil and dirt on it. It is kind of hard to get to but might be related to my problem. Thanks, Robert.
  9. I was wondering about the timing of the light. I measured the time it was lit which was approx. 1 sec. timed with my I-phone. It doesn't flash like any of these. It seemed like it was off for about 1 sec. also. Maybe I should time the off portion? I have to take a break from the car for a day or two of testing stuff to take care of my 89 yr. old Mom. I will be back. Thanks, Robert. P.S.- I would like to know if they mean the pointer to far right which it isn't but it seems that sensor may be the only thing left. thanks to logray for trying so hard to help me.
  10. Could it be condition 4 if I am getting a reasonable reading on the Durametric and the temp gauge on the dash? The Durametric is reading is at ECTS as I remember. I don't have it with me right now. The light flashes on for 1sec intervals. The dash gauge reads as it always has. Do they mean to the right of center or to max?
  11. Loren-I unplugged the level sensor and I still get the flashing lamp around 105c. I have trouble understanding the light flashing with the sensor disconnected. Could you please explain that to this knucklehead?
  12. The Durametric 6 will not read the instrument cluster that I could find and Loren confirmed it. I hate to take it to our dealer. My 89 yr old Mother just fell and hit her head. This is common. I will be watching though. Anybody with any idea accepted. Loren, you're usually good on the hard ones. Where are you?
  13. Now I am really miffed. I removed and replaced the air pump so I could unplug the coolant level sensor, which I did. I too will have to buy some new nuts with rubber washer. Thank God there is still that upper nut which will hold it for now. Took her out for a spin with Durametric hooked up. At 105c the light started flashing. The analog dash gauge read on the zero of 180, right edge. Coolant level fine. Sensor not hooked up. Brought home to garage to chk purge fan. The purge engine compartment fan came on at 78.8c. I've been told the setting is 80c. Kept going to see when light would flash and it started at 97.5c coolant temp and 97.5 oil temp. I guess since I was at idle they came up together. For some reason I cannot get the A/C hack to work. I timed the on time of the flashing lamp and it was 1 sec. Any ideas would be appreciated. I am at a loss.
  14. I know this may sound stupid but once I learn I should be alright. Could someone guide me as how to take disconnect those funny looking two pin connectors. I'm talking about the kind that are on the bottom of your coolant level sensor or your horns. The only ones I have messed with were the ones on the horns and they had corrosion and I busted them up. I want to take the one off my coolant level sensor without removing the whole tank so I can try and isolate things. I've got limited room so the easiest way would be appreciated.
  15. I chkd the purge fan with the Durametric and it operated and when I shut it off the fan came on in about ten seconds and ran a few minutes so I don't think it's the fan. Loren- I'm no genius but if it is flashing at full temp would it matter if the thermostat is stuck open. A new water pump was put on less than 2000 miles ago. Also, where are you getting the temp. readings? Is there a float or something in the reservoir or how does it read the level ? Please explain so I will understand this thing better. Does anyone around Bakersfield have a PST2? Is there any way I could have too much coolant as I am filled to the edge of the neck in desperation.
  16. Yes I wish I had a PST2. Someone on this site was going to put one together for me but he disappeared. At least I didn't give him any money. Back to the car. I hooked up the Durametric and measured the temp. through the ECTS like you show and drove her across town. The low coolant light came on when the temp hit 105c which is 221F and never got any higher. Stopped and chked coolant level, still right below the neck. Not long after that my laptop messed up so I couldn't use it on the way back But it came on three more times driving home which I reset the first two by shutting off and restarting the engine. I did notice that it came on at a slightly(3-5 degrees) lower temp on the way back by looking at the analog gauge. So I know my engine runs a little warm but can someone tell me the correlation between the coolant temp. and the function of the coolant low level indicator. I realize it always happens around max. coolant temp. but that doesn't tell me much. I hate to blindly order a new level sensor and go through the hassle of draining coolant and bleeding just to have it come on again. Any more ideas, please.
  17. O.K.-I called Durametric and they said on my year 99 996c2 6spd the DME does not give the output of engine or coolant temp. He said that Porsche does not make it available on that year. I did say my oil temp. was 111c and my analog gauge on dash reads where it always does. I'm curios what the engine temp. has to do with this? It does happen at it's hottest but I've stopped right after it came on and visibly checked the reservoir and it was full. I've read something about the original expansion tanks on early 996's have been updated because the design would let the coolant slosh and the low coolant level would come on. It is kind of strange this just started. My Vin# is WPOAA2995XS621831. I am the third owner and don't know if it has been changed. Is there a way to tell if it has been upgrade by looking at it? I need to get this one fixed. Thanks, Robert.
  18. I can't find the coolant temp anywhere on my Durametric. Is it by chance abbreviated. You can chk. your analog gauge (temp) for scaling but thats all I can find. There are several abbreviations that I don't know. It's funny that it keeps happening at about the same temp. Like you said if it was just the sensor why does it come on at about the same temp? Is this where the thermostat opens and this causes something to happen from the flow? Help!
  19. I'll go see what I can find and if I do I will try and get it to come on so I can get a read. Thanks, Loren.
