  1. Pretty much has to be the stalk, the clutch switch (which would also not let you start the car), or the cluster.

Someone with a PST2 or PIWIS tester can run diagnostics to make sure where the problem lies.

    thx!

OK, so the issue is apparently the cluster. it is apparently an 1800 fix which is really crazy to simply fix the cruise control. i tend to do a lot of longer drives so i would like to have it. Any suggestions other than swallow hard? Thx!

  2. Can the calipers be removed without disconnecting the lines?

I need to replace the pads and rotors on my 02 TT with 50K miles. I have researched the topic but still have a few questions.

    1) I changed the pads on my old 996 .... is it the same on a Turbo.

    2) I have read the instructions on the rotor removal / replacement for a 996, is it the same for a Turbo

    3) Do the brakes need to be bled for removing / replacing the calipers?

Finally, i didnt see a formal DIY for the Rotors. if there is one, i please point me that direction. thx, Mark

    1. Pretty much yes.

    2. Yes.

    3. Yes if you open any lines or remove the calipers completely. No if you are just changing pads.

  4. The cruise control on my 02 Turbo is not working (meaning, i am not able to activate it / the Cruise light in the cluster does not turn green).

I took it to the dealer in Nashville and was told the issue was the instrument cluster. Not sure if this is accurate or not but at $1800 to replace i want to make sure this is the issue.

are there any other possible causes for this failure?

    Thx

  5. I have had them on a few cars now and they are fine for me, with the exception of the fact that the flat spotting really bothers me. I personally think they look good on the wheel and the price / performance was what i was looking for.

Here is the way I would recommend people assess whether these are the right tires:

    1. Is price a major consideration? if yes, the kumhos might be good for you. If no, buy the more expensive ones, you will be happier.

    2. Do you want / need the best (meaning, is the last 10% of refinement relevant to you)? if yes, you will hate the Kumho's. If no, then the Kumhos might be right for you.

I am personally a price / performance type of person. if you are a performance only person, you probably wont like them

  6. Thx for this information. Does anyone have a diagram of where parts are on the engine? Thx

My 2003 X50, bone stock, went in within the last 8 months for a similar issue - there was a check valve on the vapor recovery line that was getting stuck open because a carbon canister on the fuel recovery system started to disintegrate (the carbon partciles sat in the seats of the check valve and would not let it seat (close) properly) - reasonably easy fix and it's been running fine now for a while. 189,000+ miles on the ticker and still rolling strong!! T2 knocks on wood!! Hope this helps.
  7. a problem is that you have correlated the fuel fill up to the performance problem....this could be pure coincidence (vs. causal). what tool did you use to read the codes....it does sound like a leak or plugs/coil packs.

It is had to describe but it is basically a full loss of power for very short periods of time under acceleration. Like limp mod but much more dramatic. i has something to do with the gas becuase it only happens AFTER fill up and for about 5 mins. Wish i could describe it better.

  8. I have an 02 TT with manual transmission and about 40K miles. Every time i fill up the car with gas, i have an issues with the car missing / severely bucking for a few minutes during acceleration. It is almost like the engine is stopping / missing for a split second and starting again. Not exactly the same but sort of like the car is in limp mode or maybe not getting gas.

This has been a recurring problem that happened before and after changed the park plugs, before an after i had an ecu flash, before and after i changed my diverter values.

Again, this ONLY happens after i fill up the car and for a few minutes during acceleration (and i always use premium).

    Thanks in Advance.

  9. I was pulling in the drive way a few days ago, go out of the car and noticed a long trail of coolant following me and an large enough pool of fluid behind the driver side rear wheel. I just had the expansion tank replaced about 3 months ago so i am not sure what the problem might be. Any thoughts? Thx

  10. I have an 02 TT with manual transmission and 35,000 miles on it. I have recently changed the DVs and did the ECU stage 1 flash. The spark plugs were changed at 30K. I had the problem I am getting ready to describe before I did this work.

Sometimes after driving a while and turning the car off and restarting, when I start driving again, I am feeling some fairly dramatic 'flat spots' during acceleration lower end acceleration. It is almost like the engine is stopping / missing for a split second and starting again. Note exactly the same but sort of like the car is in limp mode.

This happening very early in acceleration and is very noticeable (the car bucks when it hits the flat spot which occurs soon after shifting). I am not noticing anything odd at at idle when this happens and I never see a check engine light. The only thing that I have noticed, is that seems to happen more after a longer drive (say 60 miles or so) and when the fuel level is at about 1/4 tank. Note that I typically use Shell Premium and I never push the limits of the car.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. I just got mine back from rene at upsolute today. Seems to work well and I can tell a big difference. Even though I have an 02, I changed the plugs plugs (myself) based on mileage. Based on some of the $$$$s I heard for a spark pug change, doing it myself basically paid for the upsolute chip. The ECU upgrade is the easy part, trust me!

  12. Hi -- I am in the middle of chaging my spark plugs. I have the bumper cover off but I am somewhat lost in terms of what to do next. This probably has something thomg to do with not being able to identify (for sure) the turbo charger as well as being not being sure about how to remove the intercooler. Can someone help out with some information / pics??

    TIA
