  1. as always brother loren to the rescue. thank you. one other question, it seems that the key is removing the mirror. Are there any caution remarks regarding removing the mirror? what i know is to just put it on the edge using the swithc and gently pulling out. is it that simple? i might damage something. is putting it back simply pushing it back in?
  2. i want to paint the lower portion of my outside rear view mirrors. i saw that it was a techquipment option that i could easily do. however, have no idea how to dismantle the lower portion of my outside rear view mirrors. Anybody care to share how its done. Thanks guys. i just want to be neat with the job and i dont think it can be done with the lower portion of the mirrors installed.
  3. hi paul, thank you for the picture. Actually i wanted to get to the area on the passenger side footwell to inspect the intake where recirculated air is brought into the evaporator housing. Reason being i wanted to place a filter media in this area to minimize dust entering the evaporator during recirculation mode. just a precaution for longer evaporator life..i wanted to know first how the panel is removed. do we need to remove the glovebox? or its a simple removal of a small panel by removing a few screws. guidance will be appreciated.
  4. anybody familiar with the removal of the passenger footwell panel?. Would like access the AC unit motor and intake ports.
  5. i want to align the door catches for my 997.2 does anybody know what are the tightening torques for these catches? the catches i am reffering to are those things connected to the car body. its the one that catches the door latches. i will try to align these catches to see if there will be an improvement in the door sound and feel
  6. i have heard that there was a pdk software update for 2009 cars. do we have information if the 2010 cars are also affected? is there a service bulletin that anybody know of that mandates dealers to do the update when the cars come in for any kind of maintenance work? lastly is there a way for us to find out if the software in our cars are up to date or need updating. the pdk is a wonderful piece of equipment and one of the reasons for the delay in coming out with it is the electronics and i am sure there is constant improvement still of these programs to make the pdk system perform better and better.
  7. installation of the paddles shift upgrade is a snap! it takes less than 30 minutes to install the thing. you really do not need to remove the battery unless your paranoid about the air bag blowing up. for 2009 models it is a diy thing since these cars do not hav ethe facility for the indicator lights on the wheel to work. however, for 2010 cars, even if the actual installation is a diy, you will need the PIWIS to activate the light indicators for sport plus and launch control. WOW this wheel is beautiful and i am so glad that i took this upgrade before prices shot up. actually it already moved up and considering my interior is sea blue which is a special order...bt nevertheless i think it is all worth it.. im happy everytime i enter the car and hold the wheel.
  8. wanted to share the progress of my upgrade to all. just installed the paddle shift steering on my 2010 c2s. had the dealer do the upgrade. i think is was the first one in my country to do the upgrade. frits of i think the dealer missed the center by 1 or 2 slots and now the steering wheel is a bit off center when driving straight. will be returning the car to dealer today. also noticed that the indicator lights do not light up. I have been informed that the 09 models do not have the indicator light feature but the 2010's do. in a previous post a few of our brothers mentioned PIWIS programming is not needed. now i am wondering if PIWIS is needed to activate the indicator lights. will also be asking the dealer to check but maybe someone out there has an idea on this step...nevertheless i will update all on progress..
  9. maybe i am being anal about it, but i just know the filter in my s class does get dirty fast and this is for recirculated air. i clean my recirculation filter more often than i do the external pollen filter because recirc is almost always on. in fact every time the recirc turn off, which happens after 30min in the benz, i immediately smell the polluted air outside and just have to turn it back on..
  10. if you notice even our window type ac's have filters and this is for recirculation. even for houses that are always closed and with ac on the whole day these filters get dirty. Dust and dirt are everywhere and most especially inside a car. every time you open a window, open a door dust comes in the car. this is unfiltered air.
  11. go the dealer to install it for $50 but the lights indicating sports plus does not light up. isnt PIWIS required to turn this feature on? my original wheel does not have any lights but car is a 2010 c2s. i think there is a feature that needs to be turned on because i have seen regular wheels with pdk light on them on the top portion of the air bag module.
  12. as always loren sheds the light. thanks for pointing me to the right direction. the data i used was not in the 997.2 service book but rather in the tecknic manual for the 05 997. i am assuming that the ac system has not changed from 997.1 to 997.2
  13. maybe some of our more technical brothers have access to a diagram and operation of our airconditioning system. a general schematic would be very helpful. maybe a parts diagram from the PET would also be of assitance. like i mention i am a bit apprehensive that Porsche did not put a filter before the evaporator to clean incoming air in recirculation mode. No problems with recirc mode in off due to the pollen filter.
  14. you are absolutely making sense adias.. but you know some of us p car owners try to find all the reasons to make our babies more beautiful in our eyes. i believe you and i know i am just trying to find a good reason to ugrade. thanks for bringing me back to the ground brother...but how about better ride and performance that we could feel in the streets rather than on the track. will less unspring weight have that much effect?
  15. hi adias, yes pretty sure that the filter cleans air being sucked by the system from inside the cabin in recirc mode. the filter in my mb is located below the dash in the passenger side footwell. it is very easy to clean and you can hear and feel the air being sucked in by the ac system from this area when in recirc mode. the outside pollen filter is located in an area similar to our p-cars, inside hte engine compartment. when recirc is off you can hear air being sucked in from the external filter, when recirc is on a valve is closed and air being introduced to the system comes from the passenger footwell area i mentioned. I am pretty sure the system in our p cars are similar. recirc mode sucks in air coming from inside the cabin and it closes a flap that leads to the polen filter we all know is located in the engine compartment. i can only imagine how fast my evap would get dirty if there was no filter in recirc mode. it will be like the system in my 80's old cars where the evap input is simply exposed to the air inside cabin and pushed through the evap for cooling..
  16. major reason why recirculation is almost always on here where i am is the pollution in the streets. if recirc is not activated all the smoke and the smell will go in the car. now the supposedly clean air inside the car is not the case again where i am. As i have pointed out my S Merc has a recirculation filter inside the cabin. this one gets dirty quite fast i should say. i clean it more than 3 times a year. If we all agree that there is no filter for recirculated air can someone point out to me where the system sucks in the air in recirculation mode? i would like to adapt a filter there similar to the filter used for window type airconditioners used in the house. 3M filtrete would me my filter medium. hope someone can point me to the right direction. just a preventive measure to lenghten service life of my evaporator.
  17. hi loren, great to hear from you. thanks for indicating that however i wonder how the air in recirculation mode gets filtered before enterring the evap? from the diagram i can see that the pollen filter cleans air coming from the outside - recirculation mode is off. Does it also clean the air in Recirc mode? merc has 3 seperate filters - one for outside air(similar to item 3 in diagram provided) - recirc off, one for inside air-recirc mode on, and one charcoal filter for removing smell from air coming from either source... from the way it looks on the diagram, the item 2 is exposed to the outside air and is used only when air from the outside is brought in to cabin
  18. i was just wondering if our cars have a recirculation cabin air filter. i know we have a pollen filter to check the air going into the cabin from the outside. what happens if we always have the ac set at recirculation mode? does the air still pass through the same pollen filter located in the front trunk near the wiper beffore it goes to the evaporator? i have an s class that has a filter inside the cabin that filters the ac air in recirculation mode and it gets dirty fast. Im just thinking if the air in recirculation mode goes straight from inside the cabin to the evaporator, the evap will get dirty fast... seems very unlikely for a $100,000 car
  19. hey phillipj you know my language. same origin? actually brother i agree that the brakes are already very capable, except that in our roads a lot of people are uneducated. running at good highway speeds and a stupid driver just goes into the lane. better brakes will simply give more confidence. happened a number of times at NLEX around 8pm where all the trucks are travelling the highwway to get to manila by 9-no more truck ban.. frustrating
  20. thanks berty 987. mine has pdk so i think i wont be needing any additional modules. just verifying if PIWIS connewction is at all neccessary when installing this upgrade
  21. has anybody actually upgraded the brakes on our 997.2 c2s's. i heard that the gt3 setup will work. i am just wondering how much work is entailed in such an upgrade? is it worth it or would pads upgrade or rotors upgrade be enough. looking for intellligent opinions.
  22. sure you may. i have beent rying to find a way to use the pm feature but i can seem to find it. Nevertheless, Thank you so much for responding. it now gives me the confidence to either install it myself should the dealer charge a riduculous fee or have the dealer if the price is right.
