  1. Send me a PM with your email address and I will send you a wiring diagram for the front amp. You will have to run 2 sets of RCA's from your new front amp to the JVC head unit, it's easy. All of the speaker wires are color coded at the front amp location (right front +, right front -).

It will take you a couple of hours to replace the amp. The dash speakers and rear speakers are a snap. Remove them with a torx screwdriver, cut out the old speaker with a razor blade and use epoxy to secure the new speakers in place. I have a write up on this as well that I will send you.

I added coaxel 5 1/4 door speakers and got rid of the awful subs. I wired the door speakers into the front channel. The wires are right there with the front amp already, you'll jist double up the dash and doors into the front channel, easy.

To add the icing on top of this, you've got to add a sub. If you don't want to build your own box you can add an amplified bazoka tube, very easy to do just run a hot from the battery through the interior and a ground is easy, use the rear shock tower under the carpet behing the rear seat. One RCA set from the Bazoka Tube back to your JVC and your done.

  2. My '99 first hit the streets in May of 1998 in the Southwest. I drive the car daily for the past 2 years and have upgraded everything I could to keep it looking "showroom brand new" and it does still look and drive like a car thats maybe a year old.

I do not push it. Don't get me wrong, in Arizona the average speed on the highway is 85, I do drive the speed of the traffic with the radar detector on.

For street driving I shift around 4K RPM's.

My car is now 14 years old and I really love it and I dont want to kill it.

  3. I'd also like to change out the Porsche stereo/single CD player unit CDR 220 to an aftermarket head unit for more power and musical clarity when the top is down. Are there removal/installation directions on our forum for accomplishing an install? What size and make are the stock speakers and are there wiring issues to be mindful of or will an aftermarket unit be a direct replacement?

The stereo is the easiest mod you can do. Any single DIN system will work. I picked an a Kenwood KDC X995 when it first was released and paid $299.00. It has HDFM, a Parrot Bluetooth System, CD and rear cable iPod USB.

Get the Porsche wiring harness cable and plug it into the harness from the car the wire the harness from the new head unit into that. I went crazy and changed eveything, all of the speakers, dash and rear seating, doors are now full range in my car. New 6 channel Rockford Fosgate amp in the front trunk fror ---> dash speakers 4", doors 5 1/4" and rears 4".

Then made a mock up box that looks like the Bose rear sub box and added a Rockford Fosgate 2 ohm 8" Sub with a tiny little Rockford Fosgate 400W Mono Amp for the Sub.

I did it all myself and spent just about $1000 in parts. I sold the factory radio on eBay for $325 and the factory amp for $50. All in all I'm into a whole new everything that sounds 1000 times better than the factory system for $625.00.

I also removed the cubby and CD holder below and added a 7" Magellin Navigation System I picked up at Sams Club for $160.00.

I'm very happy with the look, fit and sound of everything. I'm a cheap XXXXX so this worked perfect for me and it is SUPER LOUD with a nice adult sounding bass THUMP.

http://www.amazon.co...enwood kdc-x995 <--- Amazon now has it for $160, its a steal for that price. I love the HD Radio, 100% Static Free and CD Quality Sound not to mention many additional stations!!!

Not the bust pic but you can see the new head unit and the Nav.

  4. I had the car detailed and the yoyo that did it wet sanded a small tiny scratch on the drivers door and sanded right through the paint.

I went to another idiot that painted the door with a blend did a great job but the guy must be color blind because it did not match, complete waste of money.

On to the next guy, did the job perfect except he decided to blend the front fender and drivers door. Color is spot on but the paint got into the seam in between the door and front fender and that black strip is oversprayed with white.

I am so flipping mad over this whole mess!

How do I remove it so I can clean it? I tried to pop out the 3 little fasteners and cannot get them out.

  5. I had the front rotors and pads replaced at Porsche 2 years ago for a wopping $1150.00, never make that mistake again.

Yesterday one of the techs at the Cadillac Dealership I work at repaced the front pads with ceramic enhanced semi-metallic with Kevlar Pads. The front pads I took off were really still 90% there after 2 years and 20K miles. I saved them and we just put in new pads.

I bought Balo Coated rear rotors that I picked up at Pelican Parts for $117 for the pair including shipping, amazing. I used the ceramic enhanced semi-metallic with Kevlar also on the rear. I spent $190 for everything and gave the tech $100 for the install.

After one day of use, really quiet and dust is down by 75%. I have black wheels on the 996 and the dust from the factory pads was really bad. I had to clean the wheels every day.

Here is a link to eBay where I got the pads: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rear-Brake-P...91560661388863

Here is a link to the pads: http://www.ntadi.com/galaxypads.htm

Write to the seller and tell him you want both front and rear pads. I paid an unbelievable $73.88 for pads for all 4 corners with free shipping.

  6. I had P1530 it ended up being the passenger side Vario Cam and Actuator. I have a warranty but it turned into a fist fight between me and them. I won and they paid the claim. North Scottsdale Porsche did the repair, it cost the warranty company $2800 ouch, I had to pay $100 for the deductable. My car had the code for about a month, I kept clearing it and it came back on every 30 or 40 miles.

  7. I wrote to the seller and asked if he would sell me the Spyder Brand lights he had listed. He replied with $275 and free shipping. My car is a '99 and they were true plug and play. As I wrote above they make the back of the car look brand new. I sold the stock lights on eBay for $140.

Write to the guy and ask if he'll give you the same deal he gave me, my bet he'll say yes. I had them delivered by FedEx 2 days later.

Here is my car with the new tail lights, I took it with my iPhone, not the best image:

  8. I have a related issue on the drivers side. The seam of the front and rear windows is tighter at the top of the window than the bottom. I'm gtting wind noise so I adjusted both of the settings on the front and rear of the underside of the door to all the way in. They both seem to adjust tilt for a tighter seal against the weather strip.

I need to know as the poster requested where is the adjuster for the seam (left/right) between the 2 windows, it is not either one of the adjusters under the door..

  9. I just had it done to my '99 C2. After a 13 day fight with the extended warranty company and complaints filed with the Texas Attorney General and The BBB in Texas where the warranty company is located they paid the claim, $2800. Porsche North Scottsdale in Arizona did the job and loaned me a car for 13 days at no charge. It cost me $100 for the deductable.

If you have a warranty never accept, "We are denying your claim".

  10. I'm glad my guess on the expansion tank was correct. I agree it sounds overpriced, last year my warranty covered the expansion tank, the passenger seat switch and a horn at Scottsdale Porsche. EFG paid $1650 and I paid $100 plus 4 hours at $10 per hour. My warranty will only pay $135 per hour and North Scottsdale Porsche charges $145 per hour.

I am really happy for you and feel good about the guess!!!!
