  1. Do you know if the front hi fi radio amplifier between 2 part numbers are interchangeable. The car has amp part number 996 645 322 00, can I use 996 645 301 01? Thanks in advance
  2. Absolutely fantastic, make sure you buy the Kenwood iPod cable. The iPod will not work without the specific Kenwood cable. I have a Sirius tuner, PM me if your interested in how to negotiate pricing with Sirius. I got everything that they offer for $26 for 5 months. Bluetooth works well. Ground the brake wire and DVD's play while your moving as we'll as the ability to add a destination to the Nav while the car is moving. The HD radio is crystal clear with stations that send the album cover of the song you're listening to on the screen. I loaded custom POI's from POI Factory to alert me of red light and speed cameras nation wide with updates every Wednesday. All in all, the sound quality with 5 amp pre-outs is excellent. My 911 has all new speakers, a 300w amp for the front and rear and a 400w amp for the 8" Sub. I like my music and this head unit sounds fantastic. There are lot of really nice features in the Nav setup to monitor your driving, keep track of fuel usage, green driving etc.
  3. Thanks, mission accomplished. It works like a charm. The Kenwood DNX6990HD I added is amazing, HD FM Radio, iPod, Bluetooth, Sirius XM, Navigation By Garmin with traffic, Backup Camera, DVD Player...hacked to play while the car is moving and added a USB Hub and USB 32 Gig flash dive loaded with movies for the kids. I updated amps, sub and all speakers last year. This is by far an amazing system with an audio sound that is over the top.
  4. I added a 2DIN Kenwood system in the upper dash and moved the HVAC controls to the bottom spot of the lower console. Above it is the CD holder.   5. I read in the disclosure statement for the wireless camera that they can cause interference with the Bluetooth system.
  6. My car is a '99 Coupe. I've read a few posts, this being the best: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/26098-how-to-run-backup-camera-wiring/?hl=backup+camera Correct me if I'm wrong. From the camera in the rear there is a yellow RCA that has to get back to the head unit to plug in to the video in for the camera and also a positive and ground that both connect to the drivers side tail light reverse light connection. From the head unit there is one wire 12 volt trigger that must connect to a reverse trigger to automatically switch the screen when I put the car into reverse. Where does this wire connect, somewhere in the interior or back at the tail light? I am not sure how to get the yellow RCA from the engine compartment through the grommet mentioned in the link I posted above and then into the interior compartment. If any of you have done this please reply to this post with any tips that may help. Thanks RS
  7. Take a stab at disconnecting the neg of the battery for 5 minutes and let the memory clear out then give it a crank. Question, did you re-wire this new Sony or was it just a plug it in swap considering you went from Sony to Sony? What about the ground wire from the original factory radio chassis that works with the factory alarm system, is it taped up.
  8. Every time you wash the car wash the edge of the blades with the sponge. Polish or use wax on the windshield often, guaranteed results, no more chatter.
  9. The new key will come with a bar code tab as I mentioned earlier. You need to bring the dealer, your old key, new key, the car and a credit card. You'll drive away with a working key and a payment due on the credit card... :-)
  10. You need a new key fob. They die and stop working. Buy a new one on eBay that is brand new and comes with the bar code tab. Take it to Porsche, they'll put your key into it and program it to your car. Do not buy one unless it has the bar code tab or it will be a waste of money. I bought a new one on eBay for $85.00 a few months ago, dealer charged me $65 to program it.
  11. Clay bar it's very simple wet car rub everything down by hand with clay bar and all over spray is gone.
  12. As mentioned above the scratches/burns/lines will come out its easy. Use 1500 sand paper, cut pieces of the sand paper into small squares. let ir soak for 5 minutes in soapy water. Using circular motions lightly go over the entire headlight. Re-dip into the soapy water very often. Remember it's a WET sanding process. Continue until all scars are gone. Use a towel to dry it every now and then so you can evaluate how your doing. When everything that went wrong before is gone and they look nice and smooth and dull from the 1500 grid repeat the process with 2000 grid. I use Meguiars polishing compound to complete the process with a variable speed buffer than finish with whatever polish or wax you normally use on the paint by hand. I wax my 996 twice a month and always wax the front headlights and rear tail lights. They won't yellow at all if you keep waxing or polishing. Best of luck.... They're plastic and they will be fine.

I had the VarioCam actuator and solenoid go bad on the passenger side last December and when the tech at Porsche re-installed the muffler the tail pipe sits lower than it does on the drivers side. Can anyone post a pic that shows me where the bolts are to adjust the height so the tips look even from the back of the car?
  14. I had a 996 brand new in 1999. I sold it and went a few years without a Porsche than bought a really showroom mint '79 SC with 68K miles, loved the car but the A/C was terrible. In Arizona it couuld not keep the car cold. I sold it and made a few bucks and went right back to another '99 996. I love the car and it is my DD. Great choice!
  15. No because mostly everyone that has had this same leak has had a leaking expansion tank. I can tell you it will go from a drip to puddle pretty fast, get it replaced as soon as you can.
  16. I have them on my car and I've found it is key to keep the air pressure at 36/44 to keep ride feeling right. They look great!

  18. I love my LED tail lights also. I have a '99 and it had amber head lights and amber tail lights. I bought a set of clear head lights from eBay that really were in like-new condition. The car looks so different.
  19. My advice, suck it up and have it sent to a Porsche Dealer. They are expensive but so far in my 15 years of driving 911's the fix everything right the first time. These cars are tricky, an inexperienced tech can change parts at will and you will go broke fast. It may cost you $500 to get it there if you're so far away or rent a U Haul and get it there your self. I've read hundreds of posts of guys changing this and that with no luck. Take it to a Porsche Dealership.
  20. I sell cars and I've sold lots of 996's and 997's. Every guy I sold a car to that had a PPI done at Porsche was advised by Porsche not to purchase if the rev limiter was hit more than X times. Porsche rates it as level 1, 2 3 etc. It's not a good practice to hit the rev limiter. Have mercy on that car man!
