  1. A lot of the 40th anniv cars were heavily discounted when new, so definitely make sure the price reflects that.

My guess would be it's not a great investment, but from your original post that wasn't what you were asking necessarily.

I personally like the 40th for the following:

1.) The color is beautiful in person. Personally, I'd replace the wheels, though. Or trade them for the normal Carrera II wheels.

2.) The combination of LSD and X51, which includes oiling upgrades, makes the 40th a better track car, IMO, than the typical C2. When I had a C2 I considered upgrading to the 40th when the prices started to sink on them.

  2. I don't know, "Kaboom" may be overstating it. What kind of tires do you run?

I was able to see a slight drop in pressure on my C2 with MPSCs tracking out of Turn 1 at VIR *if* I didn't use the whole track on exit. I didn't see that effect with Corsas on that track. And other than some increased noise later, the engine seemed to be unaffected. If you are running slicks, it may be a bigger issue. I did notice that in Grand Am Cup they allow 996s to make mods to the oiling system, presumably because someone thought it was important at that level.

But for the rest of us, I'm not sure that oil starvation is that serious an issue on the 996s. It was disconcerting when I first noticed it, but at the end of the day it wasn't a big issue.

  3. "Motorsport Parts" are sometimes orderable through your dealer (I've gotten 'motorsport/cup car' parts like GT3 air scoops, spoilers, etc from my dealer), and sometimes not.  If the dealer can't get them, call a race shop like The Racer's Group (707) 935.3999 or Devek (650) 369.3383.

Craig, thank you! Devek ordered them for me.

It's a very unnecessary, silly, thing but now that I know they exist, I want them! Only $8.50, by the way.

  4. Just cut off you old sensors an inch above the connector and twist the ends of the wires together, solder and shrink wrap.

I know, I know. It's a new (to me) car and I'm being really OCD. I plan to spend next weekend removing cosmoline. Give me a few months and I'll pull out the scissors and soldering iron.

Loren, does that mean because it's a motorsport part I can't get it?

  5. I'm trying to remove my fairly new brake pads to replace them with the OE sport pads.

So there is very little slack between the pads and the pistons as I try to slide them out. And the pads are glued on to what I guess are anti-rattle/noise discs which protrude into the hollow inside of the pistons.

So I basically scraped those anti-rattle devices off the backs of one pad and removed the pad cleanly. Now before I do the other 7, I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

And do I need to replace these devices onto the back of the new pads? If so, do I need to buy a new set of these things? What adhesive should I use to attach them?

    Thanks!

  6. Unfortunately, I lost the little rubber cap on the bleeder nipple for the clutch (the nipple on top of the tranny)

The bleeder is tightened to spec. But the rubber cap has to be ordered from Germany! ETA is end of this month.

Is it safe/OK to drive around with this off for 2-3 weeks? I guess as long as I keep the area clean, I'm OK, right? :(

Anybody know of something suitable to cover this? (some other part from some other company that is the same size, maybe??)
