  1. As noted it has reset on it's own Sort of thought that, but needed to check Thanks for being a resource guys Chuck
  2. Took 2003 Boxster S and had it smogged. It was put through the California dyno cycle. After running through the test the car had the ABS fault code on dash. I assume this is probably due to the speed differential between the front and back axles. So is this something that be reset w/o a tester or do I need a tester to reset/test for codes? Thanks Chuck
  3. Had the engine replaced last spring so that might be a cause for the subframe being off center. Yes I read about the toe and camber being dependent. Also got under the car on the lift this morning and the toe control arms look like someone might have used them to tie down the car when transported. I figure they should look the same, but there seems to be a twist in the left one(the left is the one with the most toe) and the right has a different twist. From looking at the pic's that I can find they should be straight. So it looks like I will buying some arms, thinking of the adjustable ones so when I get around to putting some suspension on I can get adjusted correctly. Thanks Chuck
  4. 2003 Boxster S 55k mi Put new tires on the Boxster S, Had the CV joint boots replaced. Took it to get aligned. Best that it can be adjusted to is about 0.7 and 1.3 degrees of rear toe in. TO best of our knowledge the car has not been hit. Bought it with a clean Carfax, when under the car there is no sign of trauma. So what do we look for or at? Opinions and Knowledge appreciated Thanks Folks Chuck
  5. Thanks for the links, I had researched the forum and had not found two of the ones you posted. The labor itself is not a big deal. I will post my final choices later Chuck :welcome: Lots of opinions on brakes. Here are a few threads/sites! Many recommend OEM as Porsche has gotten the brakes right! Thread 1 Thread 2 Thread 3 Let us know what you do!
  6. Thanks for the info I will check that out Chuck
  7. 2003 Boxster S I have a tough to find leak up by the PS pump. I pulled the intake tubes out and the interior panel to get a good look at the well hidden beast. Do the seals that mount the reservoir to the pump leak at times? It seems like the piece that tightens the reservoir to the pump does not get very tight. The reservoir wiggles a bit, is that normal? Wanted to AX the car last weekend, but could not go as the PS fluid was dripping down on to the exhaust and the car was smoking. Wisdom appreciated Chuck
  8. 2003 Boxster S 6spd Need to replace the front brakes. What are peoples preferences. I have used the Zimmerman drilled rotors with good success on my BMW's with the Akebono pads. Do people go OEM...A known product or what else. The car is mainly a daily driver and we (wife and self) will AutoX at times for fun. Opinions Please. Thanks Chuck
  9. I figured that would be the case after reading the other posts. I pulled the seats with the top down, then put the top up to access the top of the engine. That is where I triggered the fault. Thanks Loren
  10. 2003 Boxster S 55k mi, Went looking for a power steering leak yesterday, pulled the seats to get access through the bulkhead, After reinstalling the seats the airbag failure light is on. So what did I upset? Would I need to reseat the seat connectors maybe? From reading the previous post I will need a Durametric or other equipment to clr the fault. Did not find leak, but did not think to run engine while the covers were off. Thanks ahead of time
  11. 2003 Boxster S Pulled the key txmtr apart to install a new battery (my wife could not get it to work, felt it was the battery) Thought I would pull the circuit card out to take a look as the button did not feel right. Found the key lock button in pieces. Has any one replaced the button or had it done at an electronics shop? I have checked on cost for a new txmtr, would prefer to fix this one if possible. Wisdom and BTDT's appreciated. Chuck
  12. THe car is a 2003 Boxster S No mods, 46k mi. My wife was driving on Hwy 99 and the car just started running crappy,OBD slight came on, car told her to take to service (cute little comment). Drove out to check out car and yep it was really running crappy, very rough. Had it towed to independent Porsche repair shop. They are trouble shooting it right now, completing compression check. #3 spark plug was fouled, they checked the oil/air separator, no compression in #3 cylinder. outlook is? Poor right? Ideas, opinions, BTDT's Pisser is we have only had the car for about 2 months/1k mi. Chuck
  13. Is it possible to replace the PCM 2.0 and adapt a 2.1 to the system in the car. Car in question is a 2003 Boxster w/ PCM 2.0, with digital sound and a disc player Thanks Chuck
  14. Finally got the horns and the time to fix them. Pulled the front end off, only missed two screws (hmmm...does not come off) these were the the two on the outside, set in to an indentation. Pulled the radiator ducting off (both side), there was a ton of debris in there. R&R'd the horns but they did not work, checked the voltage at the horn. Got 0.5v, they would try to make noise. Found the #1 relay panel with my Bentley manual pulled the relay out shook it and reinstalled, no good. Noticed that there were quite a few similar relays down there. Swiped one from another system and the horn worked. At least taking the bumper off is now not a big deal and the Bentley was good to have. Loren I was not aware of the Amazon page when I bought the Manual, but I did become a contributor as I always appreciate having a resource like this site. Thanks Chuck
  15. phillipj: I had been using the search application, but I realized I was not selecting the box to look only in the title. I found plenty of threads after that. You might put that as reminder when a person is asking a common question, I kept coming up with all sorts of stuff. judgejon: After reading all sorts of oil threads, I looked at the oil specs and figured that Redline would work just fine. Thanks for all the input guys Chuck
  16. I notice that Mobil 1 is the popular oil of choice here. I believe recommended by Porsche. I have used Redline in my cars for 30yrs with no oil related problems Opinions of what you use and why please. I buy my oil in the 5 gallon pails so the price is decent. Plus it gives me a great recycle container. Chuck
  17. Well today it seems to feel like beeping when locking the car. Of course after I make a post wondering about it's operation. I do also listen for the doors to lock, but at least now I know it does make a sound.
  18. Another newbie question Just when should the alarm horn beep or go off? Is there a setting to have the horn beep when locking the car? Should the horn go off if the car is locked, with top down and you reach into the car? I tried that and open the glove box and nothing happened. I love getting a new car and figuring out the quirks. Thanks Chuck
  19. I emailed the person on eBay about where he was getting them from. He stated he was getting them from another vendor. Question is....who is that? Chuck
  20. Looks like I will just be putting in a separate bluetooth adapter. The Denison product (found it at Bumper Plugs) requires that the PCM have the phone buttons, ours does not. With their product I would have had Ipod (mandatory for the bluetooth) and blue tooth. But it could be done. Bummer Chuck
  21. I have been trying to use the search application for info on whether I can set up the Bluetooth with the PCM 2.0. I have not found much so...... I am asking for wisdom, BTDT's and URL's to guide my efforts. I did find a great homelink article for the car. I just want to tear the car apart once to do these improvements Thanks Chuck
  22. Thanks for the input on the manual, Found a Bentley on Half.com for $55. Upgrade the horns? Vendor? Options, Which horns? Thanks for the Pelican write up, makes removing the bumper look fairly easy. Chuck
  23. Just picked up our new (to us) 2003 S. Got home and my wife discovered the horn does not horn anybody (she is bummed) Pulled out the owners manual, checked the fuse, I can hear a relay under the dash when pushing on the horn (the relay sound goes away when the fuse is pulled). I am working on getting a manual to be able to know what is where in the car. Trouble shooting ideas appreciated. Thanks Chuck 2003 Boxster S Lagoon Green Metallic
