  1. East Bay, thank you. I use Valhalla in Lafayette for simple stuff (oil-brake bleed) they are better at carrera's and vintage air cooled in my opinion, still very competent but mentioned they dont see 996 turbo"s Also have used Kahler's, like them and owner has a 02 996 TT but they question aftermarket stuff and once again work on lots of cars including mercedes and audi. Looking for someone that is in to turbos and offer advice on quirks that are common to these cars. anybody you suggest?
  2. I dynoed before and after when I did the flash. I gained 88 HP which is awesome but actually the other aspects of the flash are what make it worth it for me. The flash made everything more responsive, it delivers 1.2 bar regularly and idle, turbo spool etc is all improved dramatically. hope this helps.
  3. Wondering if anyone in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area knows of a exceptional techinician/mechanic for my 996 turbo. Looking for the the shop that has lots of insight on these cars other than dealer. I have a few upgrades on car and am ready for a major service, possible clutch. Shop I use currently is great, but they service alot of Porsches and hoping to find someone that is extra knowlegable about 996 turbos. Any suggestions with a contact name of person would be appreciated.
  4. I have read several posts regarding a hesitation in 996 turbo and replys have included "varicam" as the cause. I have similar issue i think, replaced plugs, tested or had "reviewed" coils etc. All is fine. What is Varicam doing that makes this issue happen and why? I am still trying to decide if this is something I want to pursue with Dealer or elsewhere. thank you
  5. Thank you. only one porsche in the garage for now, proably forever:)
  6. Not sure if that is correct title of tool. Looking for a code reader for my 01 996 TT. Can someone tell me what type to buy and if a used one is a good purchase? I have heard they are able to accomodate 3 vin's before they are "used up"? thank you
  7. Please let me know if technically it is. Buying some aftermarket parts and not sure what i am working with. thanks.
  8. I am looking for a direct way to take off map pocket door only. Hand rails snap in and out, expose a couple of hex bolts. If i loosen those can i get to the bolt/screw that holds map door on? thanks.
  9. I saw yours Loren, that is very detailed and hard for me to apply with out knowing the door. I need to just take off map door and cant tell if that is what the first instruction is for? I dont want to take off more than neccessary. any other instructions you seen you could sugest.
  10. Remap or ECU flash was worth every penny. And I agree with whomever wrote it is as good as worst component. I changed plugs ,DV's and added silcone boost hoses. My car had a fab-speed exhaust already. It performs excellent. Turbos spool sonner, idles stronger and compliments car overall. I used Softronics, talk to Dan Mermelstein- very helpful and makes package deals for all described above.
  11. Replacing both parts with factory carbon fiber on my 01 996 TT. can anyone tell me how to remove these two door parts? thanks.
  12. thanks to both for your comments on belts and I am gonna error on side of safety. I did call dealer and they confirmed they werent offered and that the install could be done wouldnt gurantee belts would work as designed. thanks again. :thankyou:
  13. Loren, what do you think? can I install these 2002 red belts in my car and have functional seat belts? I can get them for cheap from my friend and would like to give it a shot. let me know when you can.
  14. so the car stores simplistic things like "over rev"? Is this so you can review before purchase and get an idea of how it was driven or associate driving style to warranty claims when applicable? could car be storing a code that reflects a issue yet i dont acknowledge it or feel it in performance or driving? can you give me some more detail please.
  15. thank you, can i ask if you the cable is universal? I ask because i flashed the ECU and they sent me a cable from softronics that fits that port but not sure if it can be used again. Why would you want to store codes? For reference purposes? I have seen topics for code issues on renntech, does the durametric come with information to reference codes? Thanks again. Steve
  16. FWIW= For what its worth. I am catching on. Thanks, i didnt know that about the codes. I see Durametrics for sale, are they universal to all cars or porsches? If I find the correct one are they easy to use? thanks
  17. What does get codes and read JIC. my car is not flashing any codes. Is it possible that codes are being produced and I cant see them anywhere? If i use a Durametric would it show stored codes that are not being displayed on my car somewhere? Let me know if you can and thank you for the info
  18. I have searched for some info on steering wheel replacement. I am intrested in putting aftermarket wheel on car. Is this involved swap? Does anyone have a brand the suggest that is a direct bolt on that they have used and recommend? thanks.
  19. Thanks everyone for your input. Based on Loren's contribution and my desire to live i will be passing on install of these. Alex, i was buying from a buddy for a couple hundred bucks. They were used for a year or two and he changed interior of car for with roll bar belts etc? I will see if he wants to sell and let you know contact info.
  20. I am a fan of Red Seat belts that were a option year after my car (2001) Apparently they are wider according to helpful tech at Suncoast. I have a oppurtunity to buy some cheap and curious if anyone has ever installed these on a 2001? thanks
  21. Thanks for suggestion on LLoyds. Did you find the factory color for your car at a LLoyds dealer. I have seen any listed for Metropol Blue.
  22. Preparig to put a clutch into my 99TT 2001. I have flashed my car and have some other power additives (bolt on) and can tell my clutch is not gonna last much longer with new driving style. With increase in HP and boost I am looking at RS clutch from suncoast. There name is mentioned frequently and seem reputable. Anyone have one of these clutch packages installed or have a suggestion on what clutch to purchase which works reliably for day to day street driving and will possibl be a improvement on stock replacement? Thank you :thankyou:
