  1. All

I have been on the phone with Porsche North America for the last three days. The company that makes this part is no long under contract with Porsche to make this part.

Porsche is looking for a new manufacture to build this part, untill them we are stuck.

Does anyone have a work around for filling the gas tank (about every 1/4 of a gallon the gas pump shuts down and gas get sprayed back at you and all over the fender)

    Thank You

    John

  2. We just completely rebuilt a 996 engine that had a bent con rod.

We have a loud ticking noise from the starter location. We switched starters but no noise difference.

We inspected the six bolts that attach the flywheel to the torque converter, all six screws are tight. We see no scars on the bolt heads from hitting anything. The noise seems to happen each time the flywheel rotates completely.

When we turn the crank shaft be hand we hear no noise.

    Help

  3. I bought a 2003 996 911 Carrera with 27,000 miles The doctor who owned it only drove the car about 2 miles each day.

On her way to work one morning the engine started to make a metallic noise, lost power and died.

The failure was blamed on the IMS bearing but no metal was found is the sump and when we pulled the heads off we had found a lifter had failed and the IMS bearing looked fine.

We had the heads redone and put in a LN IMS bearing and assembled the engine.

We started to crank the engine and heard a internal noise and then the engine locked up again, except this time it was tighter then it was before.

We verified the cams timing was correct, which it was, so we decided to pull the heads back off and go through the top end again, yet found nothing wrong..

Tonight we plan to split the case and see what has failed.

I might want to send the short block to California depending on what we find.Does anyone know of a rebuild shop beside MM that would do short block rebuild if needed.

After 4 Months WE Found The Problem

    WE checked the following:

    Voltage while driving, OK

    New battery

    All new tail lights

    3 new brake switches

Tested all the wire form the test sheets you sent me OK

    The fix was:

At the CPU behind the seat we shielded th wires. Problem fixed

All fault codes are clear and fault ligt stay off

Loren, Any ideas why this problem came up to begin with.

  5. Thanks Loren

    I tried a experiment:

I removed the switch out of the socket and drove the car, The PSM Off and ABS lights came on.

I removed the wire from the switch out of the socket and drove the car, The PSM Off and ABS lights came on again.

The auto shop said they traced and checked all the wire back to the controllers, and the wires checked out OK.

Any other ideas besides a stick of TNT?????

    Thanks

    John

  6. Fault code 4340 Stop light switch

    Possible cause of fault:

    - Short circuit to ground/B+ or open circuit

    - Wiring/plug connection faulty

    - Mechanism of the stop light switch not OK

    - Adjustment of the stop light switch not OK

    - Pressure sensor plausibility

P1574 Stop Light Switch – Signal Implausible

    Fault area:

    Both stop light switches closed.

    – Stop light switch

    – Wiring harness

If they have replaced the switches then the problem is likely the wiring.

There are simple tests to determine the problem in the manuals. You will also need a special tool used to measure continuity to the DME and a volt/ohm meter.

  7. A new master cylinder has an MSRP of $447.89. Add 1 liter of brake fluid - about $12.00 and a couple hours of labor. Seems to me like $800 would be a fair price.

I would ask them exactly what are they doing for $4,800...

They want to change the Master Cylinder and the ABS Valve Assembly for $4,800.00

The Master Cylinder with Labor is $500.00

But the dealer said they had another Porsche with the same problem and changed the master cylinder and ended up also having to change the ABS Valve Block as well.
