Good instructions Oggie... :clapping: worked for me. Thank you. I used Starboard from a boating supply store (about $30) and rounded the corners with a Dremmel tool. Here are some Pics...
I made two adaptor plates, one for me and one for a friend, but he might be selling his car so I might list it on the for sale forum.

Be aware that the upgrade sound great but you will have to turn your stereo volume up higher to achieve the same level as before. What this means is that the factory amp is working harder thus sending more distortion to your speakers which will destroy them over time. Eventually you will need to add an aftermarket amplifier; especially since you will be putting in higher watt subs which draw an enormous amount of power.
Thank you, I will consider that.

I have a 99 C4 with the factory HiFi option. I am looking at upgrading all 6 speakers but I really don't want to change and/or rewire anything else. I have read a few post that recommend the Focals 5ws for the doors, but all the suggestions for front and back speakers that I can find are with a crossover which involves rewiring (Focal 100kp etc.) Can anyone tell me if the 5ws is a good choice for the doors, and what are my other options with a coaxial Focals or other top brand for the front and back. I would also appreciate suggestions on where to get them. Thank you in advance.
I have decided to go with the Focal 5ws or Focal 13ks for the doors, and 2 sets of Focal 100CV1's for the front and back. Keeping the rest as is. What do you guys think? What would be a better choice the 5ws or the 13ks? Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

I am ordering the ROW M030 suspension and wanted to know if it came with the rear bumpstops. I know that the fronts are re-used from the original.
Also, would it be a good idea to replace all bump stops when I install. My current suspension has 47K on it.
Thanks so much.
Adam
I just changed mine ... both front and rear bumstops are included.

Hello all,
I have a full aero kit that I need to fit, paint, and instal on my 99 C4. Everything is original porsche stuff except for the rear spoiler. I need to find a shop in Miami (or near by) that can work with fiberglass to help me fit the spoiler and paint it. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thank you,
Ivo

I have been looking into getting a 02+ GT3 stile aftermarket spoiler for ma 99 C4. I figured out all the expensive options - original Porsche GT3 lid and spoiler, misha's, and all the other 2K to 4K options out there. A friend told me that there is a shop in California that makes a fiberglas GT3 wing which fits in the stock deck lid for about $700. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Also, any advise on upgrading my wing will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Agreed...call Mike at M A Shaw (www.mashaw.com) great guy, great stuff, great prices!
sb
Thank you...Could you post some pics of the mashaw wing? Is it a good fit?
I was able to find this http://www.vertexauto.com/index.php?pg=proddetail&sk=176074 on vertexauto.com for $999. I was told that it is ready for paint.

Guys,
I finally got it!!! The Euro Sport suspension for my 99 C4 is here and I am going to change it in the next few weeks. I got the Euro M 030 springs, shocks, sway bars (and sway bar bushings), and rear additional springs (the rubber bushing on the top of the shock). According to my dealer those are the only components that are different between the regular and sport suspension. I also ordered new front additional springs, and new dust covers (bellows). Are there any other components that should be replaced? I was looking at some of the spacers (996.333.511.02 rear and 996.343.525.00 front). They come in 3mm or 6.5mm in the front, and 0.5mm and 3.5mm in the back. I am not quite sure if these components affect the ride height or not. Should I replace them as well?
All input is appreciated,
Ivo

Sounds like lifter noise which is 'normal' for a few seconds on a cold start.
Exactly. It's likely to be just the hydraulic tappets, nothing to worry about.
Basically when you stop the engine, some of the valves are in an "open" position. The resulting force presses the oil out of the hydraulic tappets and it takes a few seconds for them to refill when the engine gets started again.
Cheers
Uwe
Thanks

Spin on type oil filter (those that are in a metal casing) typically offer an oil drain back valve if the filter is open downward. This prevents the oil from the filter to flow back into the engine block.
Porsche uses cartridge oil filter (only paper element). Our filters are do not open downward and are not spin on type.
As for your noise, I don't think you have much to worry about as long as the engine noise is not an exhaust rattle or leak, belt squeek. Check your oil level on a flat surface before starting once a week or two.
I know that the 996 has cartridge oil filter and therefore no valve on the filter, but it must have a way of keeping the oil up in the engine.
Sounds like lifter noise which is 'normal' for a few seconds on a cold start. What weight oil are you using?Yes, lifters... I use 0W-40 Mobil 1 and am located in Miami Florida, so most always is over 70F.

I started noticing that when I first start the car in the morning the engine is a bit louder for about a second or two. It sounds like it needs some time to build enough oil pressure. If I turn the car off and start it again the noise is not there. Cars that I have had in the past used to have an oil valve (usually located around or within the oil filter) which did not allow oil to drain in the oil pan so the engine has instant lubrication when you first crank it. My guess is that my 99 C4 has the same valve, and that this valve is not functioning correctly. I was wondering if anyone can give me some more information on the subject.
Thanks in advance,
Ivo

Hmm... I am not sure based on the colors you gave
For a MY03 C4 - 6 speed -
RoW M030 should be:
front: lilac/silver
rear: green/white
Standard (US) should be:
front: violet/green
rear: brown/white
US M030 should be:
front: orange/green
rear: grey/white
Thank you Loren I guess they have been updated???
Can anyone tell me what the following colors correspond to:
Front: grey/blue and blue
Rear: purple/green and blue
Could those be Porsche Motorsport numbers 996.343.533.31.504 and 996.333.531.50.504

It would help if you tell me Coupe or Cab and 6 speed or Tip.
03 C4 Coupe - 6 speed
Thank you Loren

I am looking at a friend's car - a 03 C4. The front springs are marked Blue & Gray, and the rears are marked Purple & Green. Can anyone tell me if those are US Standard, US Sport, or ROW ...?
Thank you in advance

You are also going to need a special socket to remove the breakaway nuts on the triggering unit. One nut is a regular 10mm nut and the other two or three are special. The socket is about 40 bucks (for a 1/4" drive socket!) if you order through your parts department. I dont know the tool number off hand.
The triggering unit is located in the same spot for all boxsters and 996 all the way up to 997 and 987.
Thank you all...I will take it to the dealer...I talked them into doing it for free...after they charged me for testing it to begin with...
JUST FYI the unit itself was $169 at sunset. The number is 996-618-219-02 this is the one suggested by the TSB.

You will need a PST2 (or PIWIS) and a Porsche code (delivered to a dealer) to lock the unit. I'm pretty sure this is for legal reasons.
Thanks

I had the infamous airbag lights on. I performed the TSB and took my 99 C4 coupe to the dealer to reset the light. They told me that I need a new sensor (I guess this is the triggering unit 996-618-219-02) I got a new sensor, and want to know what do I need to do after I install it. Do I have to go to the dealer to reset again? The manual talks about “Locking” the unit, what is this? Also, can anyone give me a pointer as to the location of the sensor. I know that is under the dash, but that is the best I can get out of the manual I am using.

FYI......X73 and 74 will NOT work for his 99. The X73 is for an 02+ wide body (C4S or TT) and the X74 is for an 02+ narrow body.
Factory his options are USM030 or RoWM030 (best)
Aftermarket his options are much greater (PSS9's, H&R, Caragraphic, Gemballa, etc, etc, etc)
Thank you LVDell.

Hi gus,
I have a 99 C4. A friend just updated the suspension on his 03 turbo. Can I use his springs, shocks, and ttorsionbar links? How can I tell what suspension I have on my car? It feals rreallysoft, so my guess would be that it is just plain, basic stock, but I would like to know. Also, what is good resource to check for aavailablesuspension set ups for the C4 (Porsche and aftermarket).
Thank you in advance

Yesterday I changed my buckles and harnesses. I wanted to make a DIY, but the TSB available to contributing members is far superior to anything I could put together. The only thing I would like to add is that if you attempt to DIY, you should start from the passenger seat, it is a bit easier and will give you a chance to get your feet wet. Also, to pull the seats out – remove the front 2 bolts (2 on each seat) – slide the seat all the way forward – remove the rear 2 bolts (2 on each seat) – disconnect the battery – wait for at least ONE MINUTE – carefully lean the seats towards the back and disconnect the harness from the seat – depending on what option you have on your car, the driver seat will have 2-3 or more connectors that need to be unplugged and you might need a small torx (T-20) to take the two screws on the connector box off. The rest is in the TSB.
Good luck

Hi guys,
I am going to do the seat belt buckle and wiring update on my 99 C4. The airbag light is on and it drives me nuts. I got the buckles and the wiring from Sunset Imports, and was wondering if anyone could provide me with a copy of the TSB. Looking at all the questions on the subject, it seems a DYI is in order. I will take pictures and try to put one together when I have a second.
If you could fax/e-mail/post reply/PM the TSB instructions to me, I would appreciate it a lot. My fax number is 305 960 1849 or e-mail ivass@hotmail.com
Thank you in advance,
Ivo
