  1. Before doing anything "heavy" check the brake light switch.
  2. Well, I participated in an autox this past weekend and one guy who had on all seasons was sliding all over the place.
  3. In the same Excellence issue, it's related that even the great Patrick Long accidentally downshifted with the wheel buttons on a Croc S.
  4. I kinda sorta agree with you especially when you think that this is a regular mod for Tip BMW's. However take into consideration that the wheel offered by Carnewal already comes with an airbag and the rest of the trimmings, USD1500.00 while not cheap is not exhorbitant IMO. ( I have no ties to Carnewal).
  5. Well according to the answers that Gert at Carnewal gave me, a hub is necessary and it comes with the needed parts to connect the switches. He says that the install is easy and the kit comes with instructions. The paddles are attached to the wheels and move along with it. 2 wheels are offered: 1 all black and one silver and black at 960 and 995 euros respectively. 2 hubs are also offered: a black one( I assume vinyl) at 110 euros and a leather one at 140 euros with shipping I figure more or less USD 1500.00 The only question left is whether the wheel rake adjustment would still work.
  6. I am scheduled to participate in my 1st autoX 10/10 and this would definitely help.
  7. Roadsession, Many thanks. I am very interested in this as often I involuntarily hit the tip buttons while taking curves.
  8. Thanks. I checked them out. Seems they offer a steering wheel with buttons. I should have been more specific: Does any after market company offer a means of replacing the Tip buttons with under wheel paddles? Thanks.
  9. The seller of the Ruger Avantguard is always on 6speed and I asked him about the 18" classic. His answer was that not yet made. It seems that 19" are all the rage now and it's a pain to locate decent looking 18"s.
  10. Pardon me for pointing out your use of an oxymoron: inexpensive and Porsche in the same sentence. Best bet is to take it to a detail shop, last option before the body shop.
  11. Well I bought '05 C4S 2 months ago with 9.7k miles. Paid what most here would consider too much but given mileage and conditionn + new tires, battery and CPO, I don't feel taken. As far as weight is concerned, unless you're going to track it seriously what should it really matter? Mine is a DD. I'll drive it this coming winter after fitting it with snows. I may just keep the current rims and just switch tires; that will keep me from spending 1.5k that I can spend going to the caribbeans the coming winter. Mileage on mine has improved after hitting 12k averaging now 20.5 mpg from upper 15's. I'm keeping mine stock besides an addition of a Pioneer AV710 Nav unit that I like very much. I have a hard time justifying $$ spent for performance mods that I will not use ( I don't track) and the stock performance is plenty for me and when you add that the fuzz is very aggressive where I live, it's just not an attractive proposition. Try to find the best and latest model you can find and BTW, C4S is the most popular model, at least according to the P996 companion book. Good luck in your search.
  12. durametric is a good idea. if you are experiencing voltage drops the problem could be caused by a failing alternator. also, but less likely, is the possibility that the sensors are being thrown off by different tire makes on front/rear. Have you changed tires recently putting a diff brand on the front or rear? If the problem is tire related you can remedy that by switching off the PSM, or by 2 tires to match one of the brands. enjoy the hills and blue-bottles this time of year - the hill country and lakes around Austin are great. luck to y'all. Before you go to the trouble of checking anything else, check your brake lights, both rears and the 3rd. Often, these messages are due to either bulb failure and/or brake a switch gone bad. This happened to me recently, both messages and one dealer misdiagnosed it but the 2nd hit it right: brake light switch. Replaced and issue resolved.
  13. I know what you mean about the roads in and around Montclair as they make me wince every time. Went for a drive this early p.m. and crossed paths with another 996 while going thru that park above Gates en route to 280. Just finished having the Pioneer Avic 710 Nav installed at Sammsound of W. Caldwell. Good job, clean install although a bit pricey but as you know "you pays your money..."; the Bose speakers and subs remained, the Bose amp was replaced with 2 Alpine units. So far I like.
  14. Thanks for the welcome.I have checked the mods out. And yes P-cars are special...I'm finding out!
  15. Hello, everyone, I just bought a 2005 996 4S tip with 9700 miles, trading my E90 335i;it is Arctic Silver on black and is my 1st Porsche after 33 years of exclusive BMW ownership. I'm still getting used to the car. My main surprises: engine responsiveness, road holding, precise steering and exhaust sound. I am a bit unaccustomed to the sometimes jarring ride over broken pavement and expansion joints. I am contemplating mods to the entertainment system as my car is without Nav and device integration. Located in NJ. Any advice will be gratefully acknowledged.
