  1. Is this what you mean: When you disconnect the battery, the windows have to re-learn their upper and lower travel limits. This is done by "teaching" the windows: pressing and holding the window switches until the windows are completely up or down and then vice versa. It's in the owner's manual somewhere. Before I made this post I pushed the switches the normal way you would and got no movement in either Up/Down direction - thought I could hear a little noise from them - so do I just need to hold them down longer? Since the windows are in the down position which direction should I go with first? Thanks.
  2. Neither of my windows will roll up after removing the ignition lock barrel and rotating 180 degrees (switch would not return to position 0) - windows worked fine before (only other thing I did was disconnect battery). Prior to this I had the steering assy out to upgrade (had ignition switch problem) so the lock barrel has been out a few times in the past week or so and windows always worked fine till now. Checked D1 fuse and it was fine. Is there any other fuse I need to check? Any other suggestions? Thanks, Bill MY1999 Boxster 2.5L 5 Speed
  3. Drop the face plate down and unit won't accept a cd when I try and insert it into slot - feels like there is one already inserted but display says NO CD. Any suggestions? New to me 1999 Boxster. Thanks. Bill
  4. Issue resolved. Rotated barrel 180 degrees and everything works as it should now. Thanks.
  5. There is a tab on the lock that has an electrical connector that lines up with a notch in the lock assy so I don't see how it could be. Not sure how the release hole rotated 180 degrees - everything works fine. Only problem is the key won't return to position 0 like it should - car shuts off, dash lights go out but key just pulls out and chime rings when door is open with the key removed. BTW1 - I don't think the thunk I expect to hear in position 0 is the column lock as that does not happen until the key seats at 0. BTW2 - I had to reach in with a screw driver and turn the notched hole in the lock assy to get the barrel lock to align and seat. BTW3 - This is how mine is now positioned as shown in figure 2 - red arrow shows tab that aligns with notch in lock assy: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Boxster_Tech/86-ELEC-Ignition_Switch/86-ELEC-Ignition_Switch.htm Thanks. Bill
  6. Just replaced the unit with the updated assy - everything works fine other than return to position 0. Release hole in lock barrel moved from 1:00 to 7:00 position - could that be a problem? Thanks.
  7. Key does not always snap back to position 0 - chime rings with key removed when I open the door. Thump on dash gets expected thunk from the switch. Thoughts? Thanks bill.
  8. Upgraded to later lock assy. When I reinstalled the key lock the release notch moved from 1:00 position to 7:00 (180 out) - will this cause a problem? How do I reindex back to 1:00? Thanks.
  9. Just purchased a '99 Boxster - want to replace the battery to make sure it's fresh. What batteries are suggested? Thanks, Bill
  10. Both of the interior sensor len's are missing in my 1999 Boxster - are these a OEM only item? Thanks, Bill
  11. Sorry I was not clearer. What I meant was is there anyway to have the radio display it's code before it's deactivated by disconnecting the battery? Radio is working fine right now but will deactivate once I disconnect the battery to install a new ignition switch. Thanks, Bill
  12. Is there anyway to pull the code from the radio before it is disabled? CDR-220. Bill
  13. Drove the car today and sometimes had problems starting it - key would go all the way to the right, dash lights would light up but the car would not start. other times it worked fine. Will be replacing the ignition switch tomorrow - will this cure the starting problem? Thanks, bill
  14. Looks like it's not a major deal to change out. What glue did you use? Thanks, Bill
  15. Is there a DIY for replacing the shifter boot in a 1999 Boxster? Mine is cracked with age. Is this a dealer only item? Thanks, Bill
  16. I have looked at all the DYI's for replacing the switch and am a little confused on what switch PN I should use for my '99 Boxster. 4B0 905 839 4A0 905 849 B Which is the correct one for me? Thanks, Bill Salt Lake City, Utah
