  1. ok.. so I have a 84' 944 that will idle unevenly then die if your foot is not on the pedal to keep it running. i started having this problem at low idles such as the car would die at a stop light. I replaced the fuel pump with another USED fuel pump but have the same problem. I almost feel the problem is worse. I still need to get a hold of a new fuel filter but thought i would replace the pump today as i had the time to do so. could i have possibly switched the electic leads on the pump (black & red) or would that prevent the car from starting at all? or could it be something else? would a new fuel filter resolve the issue. any advice out there would be much appreciated. Randal
