  1. another alternative - the shape of the internal pipe to the tailpipe doesn't exactly match - mine were not perfect & would rattle, despite the clamp being tight. I slighty re-shaped the inner to be a snug fit with the tail pipe - no more rattle. David
  2. Just a quick update - heard from the garage this morning that the car will be ready for collection tomorrow. Apparantly, the problem was the torque convertor drive pinion (?) I'm not sure that this 'fault' would hvae given some of the symptoms, i.e. messed up shift locations...or maybe I'm wrong ( I don't know that much about tip gearboxes !) Anyone care to hazard a guess ? David
  3. PCT have subbed it out to somewhere elese to rebuild the box - some where in central Birmingham ? They will then rebuild back into the car. This is what they did last time, earlier this year ! The box actually states 'mercedes Benz' on the ident plate - as well as ZPF, Tiptronic, and a Porsche part number ! I spotted this when I jacked it up to find the source of the fluid leak David
  4. Hi yes - the dash indicator followed the action of the lever. It's the gearbox that's screwed up ! David
  5. Just a quick update - The cars been in the workshop now for 10 days. The guy who transported the car over to the workshop was guessing at fluids also. However, all the workshop have said so far is "nope, not fluids, it's much more serious than that " ! Looking forawrd to a phone call from them today .... David
  6. Me too ! Getting to be a bit of a pain really; it's a shame cos the car is so good in all other areas. PCT are taking it back in on Thursday - let's just hope they can fix it quickly ! Sue wants to know if Kerry got the bit in around the toilet OK ?!!! Are you still wearing a chisel ? David
  7. Thanks Guys ! The car is now booked into a local specialist on thursday this week - it will be trailered there ! David
  8. just had a look under the car - there is a small amount of fluid under teh gearbox. I jacked up the car, and found that it was coming from the ATF cooler (can't see where exactly) The total fluid loss is only a few cc's - hardly anything at all. How sensitive are Tip's to fluid level / loss ? I can't imagine that this amount of loss would cause this type of problem, unless it is a symptom of something more serious in the gearbox ? Thanks David
  9. Car is 2002 model 3.6 C2 tip Car was driving OK for the past few days, but has slowly developed a whine when the torque convertor slips under gear shift - this happens at all gears, and speeds, and all throttle positions. Then today, after 10 mins drive I came to a stop, tried to pull away - no drive. Just like I was in Neutral. moved the selector to reverse, nothing. Moved car into neutral - starts to creep, so with a bit of gas I can move forward, enough to get me home ( less than 1/4 mile) Seems to slip a lot - no real power No reverse at all though. Disconnected battery, retarted - identical - only moves in N. All the interlocks work as normal Any clues ?! David
  10. Hi all - does anyone have a clue as to what the OBD fault code P0701 relates to ? I know what the Porsce tester comes up with - 'Impermissable gear ratios' and the std OBD code is 'transmission control range/performance' But what does it actually mean ?! Two Porsche specialists say they've never come across this code before; The code gets logged approx five seconds after turning on the ignition. The car drives absolutely fine ! I did have some work done on the gearbox about 4 months ago - but that was a new torque convertor. Any got any ideas ? Thanks David
  11. Nice car; I think the side skirts would look good. The only thing that can look a little 'out' is the fact that the side skirt line should continue to the front PU; the only way to do this is to add the GT3 mk2 (Aerokit cup II) front PU. Otherwise, it does look a little high at the front. Another pic of mine (with me driving around Brands Hatch race track) David
  12. I'm confused - the bolts on my tips are not welded - there is a square section that locates on the inner pipe, but remove the nut and the bolt comes out & the tip slides off ? David 2002 C2
  13. Mine - you'll need to cover the rear spoiler with your hand ! David 2002 C2
  14. really ? mine doesn't ! 1st is 1st, 2nd is 2nd; there is always the spool up of the torque convertor when pulling off. David
  15. not to worry you all, but mine did this before the torque convertor exploded - no drive. The local dealer would only replace the entire gearbox, so I went independent who changed the torque convertor. All fine now David
  16. Berny - they are identical from what I can gather - no reason why they wouldn't fit, according to the PET & wiring diagram and you can have levelling on bi-xenon's retrofitted on a UK car - not easy, but all the parts can be bought ! David
  17. I have 18mm each side on the rear, with 285 30 18 10" Sport Designs Front has 7mm each side, with 8" x 18" wheels Car is a C2 2002 with X74 suspension. No rubbing at all. David
  18. I can concur with this - mine was tucked in way behind the wheel well - you'd have to take the lower arch liner out to get to it. David
  19. Hi Guys; Does anyone have a pdf copy of the 2004 model year Bixenon wiring diagram that they could mail me ? I've fitted the headlights, and I'm now in the process of wiring up the self levelling sensors (thank you ebay...). I have the pre-facelift diagrams, but the lights are completely different. I just want to make sure I get it right ! Best regards David
  20. The brackets go in between the inboard rear light fixing point and the body. Sort of difficult to explain, but they will fit only one way, and it takes less than 10 mins to to total. No idea if they make any difference, but they come with the kit so they got installed. as for the spring rate - STIFF ! can't be more precise than that, but if your roads are a little rough, it can get very uincomfortable at low speeds - get well into 3 digits & all becomes apparant why you installed an X74 kit... David
  21. interesting... I'll have to have another look at the plug on my car; my high beams work just fine without any mods ! and no, I'm not complaining... :-) David
  22. I've read this thread with interest... simply because I've just upgraded my '02 996 from halogen to Bi-xenon headlights. The process; remove left halogen headlight unit (using 5mm deep socket) Slide in new biXenon unit secure in place (5mm socket) repeat on right side Done ! Works fine - oh forgot, change fuses to correct values. Is there a difference in the ROW vs USA cars ? mine was v. straightforward. All I need to do now is hook up (somehow...) the headlight washers. David
  23. I was told a tip by a top class valet - don't know if you can get it in the USA; Autoglym glass cleaner. It's alcohol based. I've had exactly the same problem, and it completely removed the dark leather belt stains on savannah. I sued a tooth brush to get 'into the grain' and then wiped off. finished off with a std cleaner & protector. Looks new. David
  24. Hi guys - I've got the 'oppertunity' to retrofit a set of ceramic brakes (6pot front, 4 pot rear). They are off a 2003 GT2. My car is an 02 C2. Simple question; would they fit ? I run 18" wheels. as far as I can tell from the PET, they would, just wondering what else (other than calipers pads & discs) i would need to facilitate the install ? Anyone done this before ? David
  25. Loren - thanks - found it. Yes it's still under the LH seat. I was looking at the TSB drawing 90 deg out. Didn't realise the wires came from the left of the car, I thought they came out from the front. The wire was taped well back in the loom. David 2002C2 now with X74, spacers, auto dim mirror & rain sensor
