Personally, I'm not crazy about self dimming mirrors. They don't dim fast enough for my taste and setting the position of the mirror seems to be more critical. The more light that can hit the sensor the faster it can respond, but it's still too slow for me, plus in moderate traffic the constant changing from light to dark drives me batty. There should be a switch that allows you to operate it manually if you want. I removed mine and replaced it with a normal one from Pep Boys.
