  1. Could be the sensor died.. or a problem has developed with the wiring. I've seen a few just flat out die without any warning. However if you cleared the code and it didn't come back immediately then its probably not a flat dead sensor. A quick check using an obd2 tester with the engine running will show if its picking up anything at all. What year is your car? The cam position sensor is in slightly different locations on 99-01 and 02-04. On the earlier cars the sensor is on top of the heads while on the later cars its on the sides. Someone here probably has a picture. If you're anxious to try and trouble shoot it you could swap the sensors side to side and see if the fault returns for the bank 1 again or if it moves over to bank 2. Hope you dont have an early car because getting to those sensors is much more of a PITA.

I do have the 99., which is EARLY enough. I think

... ,,, if any one has a photo of where the sensor is located Its greatly appericated..

    thanks

  2. Does anyone know of a good suspension shop in or near San Diego to install an M030 kit and has reasonable prices? Dieter's is good but want over $1400. Black Forest won't do unless I buy everything from them. Just looking for someone who is good and understands P-cars. I found a place in the L.A. area (Bagge and Son) that seem familiar with Porsches and can do it for around $600, I just didn't want to drive there if I didn't have to.

I did it myself with a friend in 3 hours.

p-car isn't really that special comparing to other in terms of suspension

  4. Have the CEL on today and checked with the scanner its the P1531, which suggested to be the Bank I camshaft sensor or what ever it is.

It was raining very hard today, may be the water has caused the wiring some fault., cleared the code hope it won't come back on when it drys.

How serious is this problem? ... and if any suggestion on replacing any of the parts would be helpful too .,

    thanks guys!

  5. I am fast becoming a GPS junkie. Combine this with the sad sound of the stock sound system in my 2001 996 and I had to make a change. I installed a Kenwood 6019 double din head unit with navigation, Sirius Radio and the IPOD control. Plus I can play DVD movies and play back my camcorder.

I talked to Rod at Car Audio Innovations about 6 months ago but hesitated on pulling the trigger on his recommendations. I am glad I did as the system sounds great. I sent my factory speakers to Rod so he could mount the new component three ways for the front dash and door panel and the two ways in the rear side panel speakers. He made up one of his subwoofer boxes with three 6.5" JL three ways which mounts behind the rear seats. For the amp, he gave me a good deal on the Audison Lrx 6.9 which has an output of 950 watts.

While I could have purchased some of the components cheaper online, I am glad I bought from Rod as his written directions and his answering my phone questions was invaluable. The great thing about the finished system is it look stock.

I have installed at least 10 Navi system for myself and friends in varies cars.

I never need to put the antenna outside the car. you should consider putting it back inside because it ruin the look of your car.

Btw, I have 10% tint on all windows except front windshield if someone gonna say the window BLOCK the signal

  7. Never heard the belt slip, but I am at 65k haven't get a chance to replace the belt yet.. will do it when I get time

Serpentine belt is either slipping due to moisture, tension, age, or a combination of the three. How long has it been since replacement, if ever?

Yeah, could be in mtimmy's case. In mine i had brand new belt (as part of service) and new tensioner (they thought that was the issue). I was never convinced and always suspected the alternator, 'shorting' out when damp/wet, as NO belt slippage was ever heard, which is very obvious when it does. Maybe he has ALL those issues??

  8. Same thing for me ,. after a 3 days rain. i parked it on the street without moving it once during the 3 days.

started the car., voltage reads 0VOLT for around 10 seconds before it catch up to 10Volt then for another 10 second it goes up to 14V

    Latest update on this issue.

Vehicle went into dealer and they have changed the Alternator under the extended warantee. Apparently they tested it by continuously puring water on the engine lid with a hosepipe etc. In any case, it rained hard here yesterday and it started charging immediately as soon as the engine started. Looks like its sorted..........superb!

  9. I am sure its not the muffler,. because I upgraded it

Have a 99 C2 manual 65k miles... the car rattles at idle,... the rattle goes away when the engine rev up to 1k rpm or above... and it do not rattle during driving nor in gears... the engine idle perfectly fine.

any one have the same problem I am suspecting may be engine mount or flywheel warped.... btw., clutch do not slip...

It could be one of your mufflers, this was the perfect excuse for me to buy a new exhaust system.

  10. Loren, can you please check the part no. and list price for the top plate for the right front suspension C2 top mount plate for me , I happen to break one of the screw while I torque it...

it is the plate that goes to the top of the suspension with 3 screws going over the frame holding the suspension in place to the car...

  11. In MY99 there were two grey interiors offered and airbags for that year were offered in Leatherette (plastic) or Leather.

C50 Graphite Grey (leatherette or leather) -- kind of a dark grey (like your air vents)

B50 Space Grey (leatherette or leather) -- kind of a light grey

The color code does not change but the part number does depending on leatherette or leather.

    thank you loren

  12. My 99 C2 smells too, for sure its not coolant.... .,.. it just the kind of engine smell. from driving... its weird.. but its there.

Check vigorously around the expansion tank and see if there is any crusting. Feel underneath it with your hands. If there's any crusting, you either have a leak or need the updated coolant cap.

Smell and coolant topics have been making the rounds heavy this past week, eh?

Thanks - there is definitely no leak from the expansion tank - apparently this car is on its third tank, the latest being the upgraded version - does that make sense?

Yes it seems that the very small amounts of rubber from the rear tyres hit the hot silencers & give of a smell of burning rubber. Smell under the raer wheel arches is quite strong & apparently quite normal

Thanks - this does make sense - Makes me wonder how quickly the P Zero's are wearing away...

  13. ITs time for me to replace my too.,

I have the workshop manual from porsche.,.., would it be possible to change it myself, .... it don't seem that hard... except dropping the transmission while the car is on a stand.....

    Hello,

I need to replace the clutch on my 99 C2 as well.

Any other parts I should consider replacing when the car up and apart?

    Any special tools required?

what is the part# for the release lever?

What about the RMS? I suppose having one on hand just in case would be a good idea.

    Thanks in advance.

BTW shops around here are quoting 8 hours labor with labor rates in the $110-$125 range.

    CT

Here is what I have based on the Oct 2005 MSRP dealer price list and Nov 2005 parts list:

    Clutch disk - 997 116 013 10 - $251.03

    Pressure plate - 996 116 027 02 - $298.12

    Release bearing - 996 116 080 04 - $126.44

    Clutch guide tube - 996 116 087 01 - $35.11

    Total Parts: $709.70

7 hours seems a little over estimated also (IMHO). I would be more apt to believe 3-4 hours tops. Even the service manual quotes 350 TU (or 3 hours 50 minutes).

The clutch guide tube would (should?) have been replaced free had you complained of "creaking noises" under warranty.

  14. ****,. what the hell.. which country are you in?...

I couldn't believe the theives have that much guts to go in to your house and steal the car while you guys are there

Wow, didn't know RX400h are in high theft category. Too bad.

I keep my keys in my bedroom. You'll want to reset your garage door opener to erase all remote codes. Stealing from someone's own house takes guts. I think this is a pro job. Just think you were luckly not to have confronted the thief. The car is always easy to replace. Hope your insurance is good about it. I'd put some chains or locks on your bikes even when garaged.
