  1. Some of the OBD II wiring is different.

    The best solution is to say what year and model car you are interested in so someone can check the schematic.

  2. Should this also work on street GT3s, and more broadly 996s?

    Do any of you know which OBD II plug pin the violet/green wire goes to? (I'm also debating tapping in through the connector versus splicing into the wire)

    Specifically this thread was about an RoW (not US) pre 2001 GT3. And, Carerra's have had 3 different DME's so each should be reviewed independently.

    Ah, thanks Loren, the variety must explain the lack of specifc information on various boards. So does that mean that the RPM signal is on different pins on the ODBII connector (not DME) for different 996 models? I would have thought that they might have kept that consistent. Is the best thing to just look for the violet/green wire (or could it be different colors?)?

  3. I finally got the RPM signal from the violet/green wire in the OBD II plug, conveniently located in the middle of the rear section.

    That's because the white wire is a input to the ECU which the ECU translates to an RPM signal and outputs via the wire marked "TN-SIGNAL" (Violet/Green I believe).

    Should this also work on street GT3s, and more broadly 996s?
