  1. Hi, Does anyone know what is included in the "Tech sport package" for a 97 boxster? I have it listed as one of the options included in my boxster but I have always wondered what it really is. Thanks for your help, Kanin
  2. Hi All Just a quick check. I have read and also heard that the 97 boxsters are not build to handle 18" wheels. Is that true? Any experience anyone? I have personally hard time believing it. - Kanin
  3. Ok - got my engine yesterday :) and starting the project next weekend. Including an egas downgrade on the 3.2l. Will keep you updated on how it progresses. Let me know if there is anyone in the UK looking for a good 2.5l engine (50K) and gearbox. Should be available in 3 weeks time. - Kanin
  4. Hi JES I am located in the UK. And thanks - I have now definitely decided to go ahead with the project. Thanks for the picture. Wow does that look nice or what. How is the boxster with a 3.4l I guess really fast and a lot of fun :) Kanin.
  5. Thanks for the input. I already have a 3.2 boxster engine at hand so thought it may be a good option. Anyone know about downgrading the 3.2L to a none "eGas" and can share the experience? Both engines are complete so I can swap parts around if needed. Also heard sometime ago that there are problems with reprograming of the 97 ECU's. Any experience with that? Thanks, Kanin
  6. Hi All I am in the process of starting my own project and going to swap my old 2.5 1997 boxster engine out with a 3.2 2002 Boxster S (including a manual-6 gearbox). Anyone done this before and can help with tips? - Anything that needs changing that I specially need to pay attention to? - How about ECU does that need a change? especially thinking about injection here? - Brakes? will the old disks work? I have been told so but just want to make sure. - Drive shafts as the gearbox is being changed? - Does the exhaust need changing? - Springs? Any comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks, Kanin
  7. Don't know what the price is normally. I am in the UK and not in the US - moved over here a year ago with my car. Any way one of the arguments Porsche UK used for not being able to help me was that this was a US car and not a UK car - I guess they did not make any revenue on the car and it was 8 years old. Apparently they have guidelines on what the conditions are before they can help you through "goodwill" I was told by the Porsche dealer that a new engine would cost me £8720 - yes that is correct and outrages to be honest. This price does not include installation. This equals to about US dollars $13K - better to get another car for that price. so don't know about your $5500 price? I did the sensible thing - I fond another engine where someone had swopped their 2.5LA to a 3.2L and just getting mine replaced with that engine. Will get a a years warranty on the engine. This obviously did not happen through the established Porsche network but through another smaller garage specializing in Porsches. I have not got anything good to say about Porsche at the moment so will leave it at that - still pissed off to be honest. I hope none of you ever experiance what I went through.
  8. Sorry - forgot to mention that it is a 97 2.5L boxster. -Kanin
  9. Hi all I am in the process of getting my engine swapped out (as many of you probably already read in another string) and want to get the clutch changed while I am at it. I am being told that I should get the fly wheel changed as well but can not understand that. Any recommendations learnings from anyone. Should I get the fly wheel changed as well when changing the clutch? -Kanin
  10. Hi all Just to close the loop on this one. No help from Porsche I will have to get a new engine and get it installed my self :( By the way already found an engine and getting it installed next week. So I will hopefully be back on the road by end of next week latest - with a lighter wallet though :) -Kanin
  11. That sucks! :( I wonder if it's part of the miss fire problem you were having? Did you make sure the spark plugs were in correctly and tight but not over torqued. I've seen waaaay over torqued plugs on engines that cracked the head and caused the the head to blow out. let us know what happened. Hope nothing too bad. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was told that it was the big end bearing that was gone. I am then also assuming that there must be some damage to the crank shaft. Getting a second opinion on the whole matter today. :o - I am still in shock as I have always taken good care of the car from a service point of view - had it for 6 years.
  12. My engine on my 97 boxster just blowen. At 48K milage this surely can not be right. Was driving nicely on the highway (70 m/hr) and heard a big noise and cracking from the engine. I stopped and got it towed to a garage and they are now telling me that the engine is gone. I expected more of a boxster engine. Anyone had the same problem? I think Porsche should replace my engine. Any experience from others? Help - I will be calling porsche tomorrow and talk to them - this can not be right :( - Kanin
  13. Hi again, Man that was quick :) Yes it is #4. Took it to the dealer and they told me based on their readings. Hmm that makes me think maybe I should invest in ODBII scaner my self. I will try to swop the coils during the weekend and let you know how it went. I just noticed that in the engine compartment the pipe from the oilfiller is greecy and oily is it supposed to be like that? Is this a oveflow pipe or something like that? Thanks for the quick response. Kanin
  14. Hi to all as I am new to this forum. Recently my 97 LHD boxster (48k miles) started misfiring on cylinder 4. I read many of the threads on the issue before but not sure what the solution is. Car is normal in low revs but as soon as I push it and driving in high revs (6k in 3rd) I get a misfire on cylinder #4. Is it the O2 sensor (that is what I have been told but not convinced)? If so how do I locate the correct one for cylinder #4? My understanding based on the reading from other posts is that #4 is the closest to the front on driver side. If not O2 sensor then what can it be? Already cleaned the MAF no change. Br, Kanin
