  1. Help! The remote died on my key, so I switched to my wife's key until I can next get to the dealer. The problem is everytime I unlock the car it sets the seat and mirrors to her settings. I've put the key in the ignition, switched ignition on, pressed M and the seat postion number, but it does not reset the key. I've tried a dozen times, every button combo, but it still resets everytime I unlock the car. How can I reset this thing? Car is a 2001 996 C2, memory Seat control panel has four buttons M,1,2,3. No "key" button. Thanks Keith
  2. 02 996 C2 Coupe 6spd Can anyone give me the part number, and maybe the diagram pic, of the wiring harness that connects to the button wiring in a Tip steering wheel? I'm guessing its long enough to go into the instrument pod or dash. I got a 3 spoke tip wheel I'm going to put in my 6 speed and I'm gonna want to use the buttons, I'm just not sure for what yet... Anyway, I'd like to have the wiring through the column to the dash so that when I'm ready I won't have to take off the airbag. thanks Keith
  3. Toolpants, you're right, I can't find any way to use the tip wheel buttons to make the Becker CDR220 change volume or tracks, and this isn't important enough to make me want to change to another radio headunit. I have the OBC stalk already, but it'll drive me nuts if the buttons don't do anything. How can I wire the buttons to do the scroll through OBC functions? Or would it be easier to make the buttons do the door lock? Youe expert advice, as always, is welcome Keith :drive:
  4. Anybody know if I can put a tip wheel in my 6-speed and use the buttons to adjust the radio volume or change CD tracks? :drive:
  5. Thanks to all the great help from here, I'm done with my latest mods. (round one was the 3rd radiator kit) I got the fabspeed mufflers and B&M Short shift done. THe fabspeed was very easy, took 90 minutes, and I think it's great, I love the sound at all throttle/RPM combos and best of all my 996 no longer sounds like a Lexus. The B&M shifter took about 90 minutes too. It was not hard, but I could see a lot of areas I would have gone astray without all the concise instructions I got here. I don't think it's a huge difference, but it feels "right" I don't know how to describe it any better then that. So thanks to Loren and TP and all you DIY gurus for helping me muddle through this!!!
  6. Hmmm, I bought it from ebay, based on the BK web site info, I guess i need to do more research...
  7. I just gor the BK harness truss for my belts and I need some help. How do the adjustable upper belts mounts come apart in my 01 996? I need to get at the bolt that holds the belt D-Ring to mount the bracket for the truss, but it's got the adjustable slider over the bolt and it's not clear how that part comes off. Loren do you have an exploded diagram that shows how to take the slider off so I can get to the D-Ring bolt? Here's a pic of the truss Thanks! Keith
  8. I've never had problems on the track with the brakes in my Boxster or 996, but have heard of problems like you describe caused by warped roters. The variation in the rotors creates a vibration that pushes the pads back into the caliper, so that when you hit the brakes it takes a couple pumps to bring the pads back into contact with the rotor. But If your rotors were warped that bad I guess you have other signs...
  9. Anyone got a URL for install instructions for the short shifter? I know TP is working on a DVD , but I was hoping someone had a web page like Loren's DIY for the 3rd radiator install. I need the book, can't wait for the movie!! thanks Keith
  10. OK, let me make sure I've got this right. On the passenger side the LOWER radiator hose is replaced with the simpler of the two new hoses, and on the driver side the UPPER hose is replaced with the more complex new hose. Correct? And is it OK to drive with the bleeder valve open? thanks Keith
  11. I got the kit from Gert this week, and I plan on tackling this on Friday. I've got Loren's DIY page and photos all printed out and ready to go. No one ever mistakes me for a pro mechanic, but this looks like a job I can manage. But has anyone got any last minutes words of wisdom? Anything I need to be extra careful about? thanks Keith
  12. I just traded up from a 98 Boxster to an 01 996. I was taking time during a visit to my folks over the weekend to polish and wax it. I'm sticking with the same products I used on the Boxster, 3m Imperial Hand glaze and P21S concours wax. Anyway, on the front bumper there was some imbedded dirt/tar crap that I couldn't remove with the 3M, and I did'nt have the mild 3m polishing compund I use at home. Well, I went to my Dad's car care section and found a can of rubbing compound that musta been 30 years old. Maybe age had concentrated it, it took the junk right off, but in it's place I have a two inch area that's slightly scratched, like paint swirls but worse. The 3M won't polish these out, so I'm looking for suggestions on how to get rid of them. Boy, am I glad I did'nt use that stuff on the whole front bumper! thanks Keith
