Hi All ok i am yet again having problems with my 53 plate cayenne S. i got a coolant warning light whilst driving, smoke or steam pouring from the rear. stoppped and there was water all over the engine. it has been towed to my old bmw mechanic and so far he thinks that a core plug has blown. he says it looks like it is coming from the rear of the engine near the bell housing. he thinks that this would involve taking the engine & gearbox out to get at it. this seems a bit drastic to me, but im no mechanic. does anyone know about the core plugs and if there is one positioned near the bell housing and does it involve taking out the engine many thanks waynerp

Hi All i have recently had the engine out of my 2003 Cayenne to repair the gearbox, and the muppets who did the job have not reconnected the window washer bottle. when i fill it up via the hole at the top left of the engine bay, water just poors out from the bottom of the engine. i have taken the plastic covers off, and the piping is not connected to anything. As the gagrage that did the the gearbox work decided to do 190 miles in my car while they had it, i am definately not taking it back to them, and would like my usual mechanic to do the job but he would like an idea where the water tank is. any ideas anyone?? many thanks
  6. Hi Bob My thoughts exactly. They said there is no point re filling it, as it would only come out again!! fortunatley i havent driven the car since the problem was pointed out, but i do not know how long it has been going on!
  7. Hi One & All OK i'm still having a MAJOR problem with my 2003 Cayenne S. The car is currently at a Transmission specialist. They suspect that there is a problem with the oil pump within the transmission as it is making a noise and there is a big leak coming from the bell housing. they say, as it is making a noise while in netural it can only be the oil pump as this is the only moving part within the transmission while in neutral. They want to source a oil pump before taking the transmission out, but are having a big problem trying to source one. From the responses to the posts i've already put up on here regarding this subject, and from the difficulty to obtain another oil pump, i am guessing that this is a very rare problem. i am thinking that it might be something other than the oil pump, but the mechanic seems reluctent to take the transmission out before he has got another oil pump, yet it might not be this that is causing the problem. does anyone out there have an idea what else within the transmission / gearbox that could be making a noise while it is in netral. please dont ask me what noise it is making, as i can't here anything, but two independant mechanics have both said there is a noise!!! also does anyone know where i can get an oil pump for the transmission? i'm located in kent, UK MANY MANY Thanks waynerp

Hi All ok i need a new oil pump in the gearbox, and have found a company who are going to do this for me. does anyone know if anything (computer) related has to be done when the gearbox is re connected. i have been told that the computer for the gear selection has to be re trained or something like that?? i just need to know if the car will have to be sent to porsche once the work is complete thanks in advance

Just returned from a transmission specialist. there is severe leaking from the bell housing, and until they take it apart they cant be certain but are pretty sure its the oil pump! porsche dealers say they would fit a new transmission, (that'll be cheap then!!!!) so i have no choice but to get these guys to take it apart and replace the oil pump
  10. Hi All. Ok i have had my new baby for less than 3 weeks. Its a late 2003 cayenne, with 40000 miles. having never owned a porsche before we thought all was well. obviosly being new to us we are still getting used to the noises it makes. we had to take it to our mechanic as the rear washer was leaking and it turned out it was not the usual poping off at the nozle but a join between the hoses under the roof lining, which was a bit of a nightmare to sort apparently. ANYWAY my mechanic commented on how noisy the car was and suspects an issue with the gearbox. as his car ramps can only take cars under 2.8 tons (lol) i have got it booked in at a transmission specialist tommorow morning. to say that i am worried is an understatment as firstly, although we have only had the car 3 weeks this is the last thing we were expecting, and as we stupidly purchased the car with out a warranty, we are told that it could be a valve issue which could mean thousands of pounds rebuilding the gearbox. does anyone know of any common faults with the gearbox that could possibly ease my mind or stress me further???!!! thanks in advance

  13. Hi One & All OK i have just collected my 2003 cayenne s & im a very happy chappy. But the car has the standard CDR23 system and i want to upgrade to the PCM. i have done some investigating and spoke to my local porsche dealer who tell me that the car was originally fitted with a PCM. i've had a look in the boot (trunk) sorry im in england!!, and it has the 6 cd changer but i cant see any dvd/ cd player for the sat nav, so i guess at some stage somone took out the whole system for whatever reason. if porsche have made an error and the car was originally fitted with the cdr23 do you guys know if it will still have the wiring to fit a pcm, or am i hoping? what is the easiest way to check if the wiring is fitted, and am i right in saying the sat nav dvd/ cd drive is in the trunk somewhere? many thanks in advance waynerp

Hi All i'm a newbie Cayenne owner, and have purchased an older 2003 cayenne s without the PCM nav system. i would like to upgrade it and get the PCM with navigation and possibly some form of ipod connector. i have just got rid of my old X5 which had the same kind of nav system, but the DVD system for the navigation was in the back of the car. can you tell me if it is the same kind of thing with the porsche, ie: will i need to buy the front end navi screen and a box with the dvd & maps that hides somewhere in the back? any advice for a newbie would be much appreciated, as i get to know the workings of this gorgeous motor
