    I've just spoken to the shop and told them to go ahead with painting the centres yellow. they've given me a good price on repainting them if I should decide I dont like them once on the car.

    just a case of waiting a few days and then seeing what they turn out like now....................?

  2. I've recently collected by 2000 S from the body shop after having the GT2 front, trubo rear and GT3 sides fitted

    now...........on monday the shop is collecting my nice new 19" Daytone Race alloys from the supplier

    Daytone Race 3 piece

    I was considering having the central spoked area painted speed yellow as it can easily be removed, leaving the outer rim and allen bolt area in polished finish.

    whats your thoughts guys/gals? cool or too much?

  3. opps, its was about £6 from the porsche main dealer then LOL

    just explain you want to move the AC unit down to where it would be on cars with the PCM double din unit fitted as standard, its just a trim that goes around the control unit that matches the tapered shape down lower.

    the existing leads reach down to that point no probs so not a big job at all matey

    All you need to do is obtain a different lower trim piece from your dealer that goes around the AC controls and is a tapered shape. its about $10.

    you can then cut out the cross member that is presently betwen the CD storge unit and the Head unit to enable you to add your double din. you can buy the whole new surround to take a double din from the models that had PCM but its hardly worth the expense as its only a case of cutting out the cross member with craft knife

  5. There is slightly more effort required when cold but no more than the stock shifter was before I cut it down. Were only talking a relativly small reduction length to reduce the throw so not a great reduction in leverage.

    Have done about 200 miles in her now since chopping the shift down and I'm very happy with the results. Going by others comments tho these cars do seem to vary greatly in the notchiness found? Either that, or people who have paid out on a B+M or similar dont like to admit just how bad a shift you have to put up with for the reduced throw?

    Either way I'm happy :-)

  6. is there a TSB that includes the removal of the main dash in the 986/996 ?

    I'm on dial up so its a pain in the neck trying to go through possible ones that 'may' include it

    Have had my cluster out, demister panels, air con vents and whole centre section (head unit etc) so know those bits, but looking at the possibility of a full leather retrim so would rather take the dash out myself

  7. well....determined not to be beaten by a car I have spent all day trying various set ups until I found one that I could be happy with :)

    Adjusted the cables, with and without the porsche set up tool in various positions to no avail.

    replaced the stock shifter using the B+M ally bushes with the cable adjusted as per the porsche plastic tool.................great! no notchiness at all, even better than when I bought the car in standard form. :)

    now being happy with the lack of 'notchiness' I set about reducing the throw of the gear stick. After sliding the gear knob on and off a few times to review how it sits on the shaft I decided on aprox. a 1.25" reduction.

    I cut away aprox. 1.25" from the top of the shaft with an angle grinder and trimmed it to shape with a dremmel grinder disc. I then carefully reduced the girth of the base of the shaft also by about 1.25" in length to replicate the flat shape of the upper half on the shaft. (gear knob stops sliding down the shaft when if becomes round if you dont, so it would be pointless reducing the length)

    put it all back together, slid the gear knob back down to its now 1.25" shorter base and took her for a test drive :ermmm:

    Absolutely superb! nice short shift, nice and tight due to the ally bushes and allen bolt adjustment on the B+M bushes, and not one notchy feel in any gear! :D

    I am so so chuffed with myself! the car is back in my good books and its a pleasure to drive it once again :D :D :D

  8. is there anything else that can be out of sinc to make the gear change excessivly notchy?

    I only ask as I have the B+M and have used the cable checking tool, but I really have to push it into gears to the point that my wife needs to use two hands sometimes? (nothing sexual intended LOL )

    its really spoiling my driving experience as the gear changes are a real forcefull 'clunk' in almost every gear?

    the gear change was notchy before adding the B+M but also very slack, now its nice and tight with a great short throw but the notchiness is far far too much, at the mo its the worsed gear change I've had in any car and I've always gone for short shifters in the past. even cut down shifters with a dremmel and its never been this 'clunky'

    desperate to sort this out as other than this the car is everything I hoped (986 Boxster S 2000) at the moment prefer to drive the wifes ford as its not hard work, and that saying something!!!

  9. Its an easy install following the B+B instructions, but saying that I now hate the clunky and very stiff gear change now the short shifter is in. It seems its a personal thing and also the cars must each be different as mine is very very stiff and very difficult to use

    my wife couldnt even get the car into 2nd without using two hands!

    This has to be the eorst gear change I've ever had on any car I've owned and its the most expensive????

  10. The AC control unit just has 4 plugs going into the back of it, each is a different size so you cant mess it up :-)

    where you presently have the unit down the bottom you will have a tapered moulding around the outside of it, you need to get a new moulding from your OPC thats rectangular and not tapered at the bottom so as to fit once moved up the top.

    I did it the other way around and needed the tapered moulding, it cost me about £3 so about $5

    you remove the two upper panels with the switches in (these just 'click' out) to gain better access to the top area.

    The AC unit is held in place by one screw either side which can be seen once you have un 'clicked' the tapered AC surround. The CD storage box also just pulls out.

    once you have removed (pulled off) the tapered surround from around

    the AC unit it will all become apparent
