  1. BTW, the 285/30/18 would have smaller diameter than 295/30/18, this would affect the speedometer (showing higher speed than actual) somewhat, correct? Also, would a smaller tire at the rear affect the 4-wheel differential? Thanks. D.
  2. For 295/30/18, the choices are PS2, AD08, CSC2, and others. However, I realize if I go instead with 285/30/18, there's a Federal 595RS-R that is half the price of the usual 295/30/18 choices. The shop tells me the only thing would be the rims would stick out a little. I'm not exactly sure that he means by that... Can't visualize it. Otherwise, using 285 is completely safe. Is this true?? Any potential issues with the downsizing?? I'm using stock alloy wheels. Thanks! D.
  3. Hi, Can the shock mount be repaired? Looks like there are some rubbery compound in it, when the rubber dries out or cracks, it makes a slight knocking sound over bumps. Are there other ways around it than replacing it completely? There are aftermarket ones, some go from $99 to 445, like the K-mac (http://uspmotorsports.com/product_info.php?products_id=387) These seem all metal. I imagine they create a harder ride... Anyone knows how they perform? Thanks!! Dennis
  4. Just wondering if the struts/shocks go bad after being stored for a long time... Thanks.
  5. I've been going through this forum and 6speedonline for a couple of days now, trying to find the link to a site... A month or two ago a member posted a link to someone's site that documented the changes and fixes that were done to his 996 tt for about 2 years... I've been trying to find his site for a while now. Can anyone help? Thank you very much!! D.
  6. Hi, I have a 996tt. When I drive over a bump or a ditch, I can hear a loud clunk coming from around the passenger-side footwell area. I thought it comes from loose objects in the glove compartment, but I've emptied the compartment, the clunk is still there. I can not pin-point where the noise comes from, does anyone know? Thanks.
  7. Hi, I just had my 2002 tt replaced one of its pre-cat O2 sensors a few weeks ago, but the same fault occurs (engine stalled on low rpm), so the mechanic thought the newly-installed one was defective and put in another new one. After the replacement, he ran the diagnostic, it showed fine, but after a while, it showed near zero volt (where the other sensor was showing about 0.4~5v). He ruled out pressure valve and MAF as potential problems; he also checked out the signaling wires, which seemed to be fine also. Since the sensor is connected to the DME, which he thought might be the problem... It's a costly replacement that I don't want to go through. Anyone who can give me some ideas is very much appreciated... I was told you can't just buy a used DME and make it work. Its memory needs to be wiped clean and this can only be done by Porsche... Is this true? If it becomes necessary to replace DME, that are the alternatives than buying a new one from Porsche? Thanks guys. D.
  8. I bought a 2002 TT with 50K KM on it. I noticed this hesitation at low RPM. Since I had no prior experience to compare it with, I assumed this was normal. A couple of months later, the engine warning light came up and I had the MAF replaced. It's been a couple of months now and had not noticed this problem since the MAF replacement or it became very slight, it didn't bother me...
  9. Hi, mine is 2002 996TT and the replacement part # is 996 653 101 09 FFA. Thanks! -d.
  10. Thanks. But I don't think they are misplaced (or swapped). They worked once, which is why it remembered my original position. Subsequently when I tried to enter new seating position, the new memory just won't stick, it kept going back to the original position when I use the remote control to unlock the car...
  11. Hi, I have a 2002 996tt. I've tried to set the seat position via the memory buttons. I tried according to the instruction - turn ignition to ON, move the seat to the desired position, and press M and 1 simultaneously. I repeat these steps for the 'key' button memory (for the remote control key) as well. But, everytime I exit the car and re-enter with the remote control key button, it simply reverts back to its previous (not the new) position! I've done this several times and even tried to press 'key' and '2' to reset all memory and it still goes back to the previous position! Drives me nuts! Any ideas?? Thanks! d.
  12. Hi, I have a cracked digit readout on the A/C Control Panel. I've found a used part to replace it. Can it be a straight plug-in? Thanks. Just want to be sure... -d.
  13. I hear a pretty loud clunk (sounds like a toppling object in the trunk!) while the car is moving at low speed like 20~30kph and at the instant I gave it some throttle (tiptronic, still in 2nd gear, did not kick down to 1st), this is when the clunk occurs. At higher speed, the car is fine. Any idea what this is?? My car is about 50K Km.
  14. Maybe obvious, but have you checked the fuse panel? There is a fuse that controls each seat operation? Worth checking? However, if it clicks (not from button moving, but from power) maybe check to see if something is binding the mechanism. DC There's apparently no fuse for it. There's nothing binding the tracks. The lower back support won't move either... If your seats move by pressing buttons then their are fuse for your power seats - only mechanical seats are not fused. Fuse E3 (30A) is the left seat. Fuse E4 (30A) is the right seat. The control box for both seats is also fused - it is E2 (7.5A) Thanks! It IS the fuse. I took the car to a Porsche specialist. I asked him specifically if it's the fuse. He said there's no fuse for the seats... And "the seat needed to be removed to check all the connections..." ****, some Porsche specialist... Do the seats need to be lubricated at some points? It does emit quite a bit of noise when moving, more like grinding... Thanks again.

  16. Hi, I'm new here. Great forum. The Driver's side power seat on my '02 996tt won't move with the buttons (the passenger side is ok). I can hear slight click (when the button is pushed) but no movement. Anyone knows a quick check and fix? Thanks. Also, the driver's side seem to rock back and forth a bit. Kind'a annoying. Any suggestions? d.
