  1. It could be. Singapore traffic isn't the fastest moving, however, I am detecting that the torque converter isn't locking up as early and readily as it used to (something that I was pleasantly surprised with then I compromised for a TipS car for Singapore traffic). I'd driven the car for a couple months before and it was definitely different. Incidentally, I did track it for about an hour - the TipS turns into a beast, hanging onto the gears great, and really refusing to upshift on braking or cornering. I seldom felt the need to revert to Manual mode as the box seemed to be in the right gear all the time, and I just needed to focus on braking and turning. Brilliant! Whoever said a TipS can't be fun on a track just has different expectations (me included prior to this experience).
  2. So an update on this topic to close the loop. I went to the main dealer and they agreed that shifting up 2 gears is not normal. After a full PIWIS diagnostic, they found nothing wrong. Their only suggestion was to re-load the TipS control software and see what happens. When they were loading, there were 3 regions from which they could choose from - Europe, Japan and Asia Pacific. Interestingly enough, they loaded the Japan region TipS software. This solved the problem and the box TipS in D and M modes now works as advertised in the user manuals. Seems to be a glitch in the software on board! Other interesting thing to note after the new software (this is reported 2 months after the software was uploaded and about 2,000km of driving): 1. The box seems to "slur" the shifts a lot more than before. Not as direct/urgent/crisp, particularly in D mode. Shifts are more urgent in M mode and with Sport mode engaged - but nothing like the snapiness from before the upload. 2. If I slowdown rapidly in D mode, the box will engage 1st and hold first for takeoff again. Previously, in D mode (automatic), it never went into 1st ever, not on it's own at least.
  3. ok - so it's screwy that the TipS is shifting up 2 gears at once. I'm gonna bite the bullet and get to the dealer to get it diagnosed. Thanks for the replies.
  4. I just acquired a MY06 C2 TipS and have been enjoying every drive with it since. Whilst TipS wasn't my preference of transmission, it suits me well for the typically start-stop driving I experience on my daily grind, and gives me a bit of fun when I am out in the country on weekends. One thing that i have noticed is that my TipS seems to like to upshift 2 gears for each press of the + button on the wheel. I've tested in the following scenarios: * "M" mode on the shifter, shifting with the rockers. Cruising in 2nd, transmission will hold the 2nd as long as I don't near the redline. I hit the + button, it shifts into 3rd... and then 2-3 seconds later, into 4th. Same if I am in 3rd.... I upshift to 4th and it'll give me 5th a couple seconds later. Tried this with small and big throttle inputs, and it's the same. * "D" mode on the shifter, in manual override in 1st at the lights. Hit the throttle, and then + for 2nd.... a couple seconds later, into 3rd. Transmission indicator still shows "M" mode so I know I've not reverted to "D" yet. Similar story if I am in 2nd and upshift to 3rd... bang, 4th comes up in a bit. * I have sport chrono, and enabled sport for both the scenarios above and the outcome is the same. What gives? I thought Manual mode would have given me full control of the gears, and in conjunction with sport chrono, held gears bouncing off the rev limiter without upshifting. Before I go make a visit to the dealer (which will no doubt cost me money just to make an enquiry), I'd like to know whether this is normal behaviour for TipS or whether there is something wrong with mine. Hope other members here can share their experience. Note: The shifting feels fine, there are no undue roughness of shifting, shifting speed depends on throttle inputs, and can be super smooth cruising about town, or outright brutal with big throttle inputs. I also had the car checked out by the dealer and got a clean bill of health before buying the car.
