  1. The early heat exchangers were handed left and right and had the outlet pipe at the rear round pipe oval 2 bolt flange. The later 74 on ones were not handed the outlet is at the left hand front oval ish pipe with 3 bolt flange, as for leaks if the heat exchanger case looks ok they should be ok they rust from the outside so if they look rough they are! Regards Berny. By the way the part no starts 930.

  2. If the battery was disconnected then there might be an ABS light for the first few miles after reconnecting - not uncommon.

I would do a short test drive (5 miles or so) and then clear the codes and re-test.

If you started the engine with the car on stands the wheels or hubs would most likely have turned at diffent speeds! this would trigger the ABS light. As Loren has said do a test drive should clear quite quickley

  3. Long time fan, first time poster....

I have an 89 964, totally stock and she won't start. She turns over and sometimes it will run a for about a second, then she dies again and won't start for about 5-7 minutes. Recently, it's gotten worse and I haven't been able to start her for two days. I do hear the fuel pump and if I wait, I still get a sputter. From what I read, there may be a few possibilities:

    1. DME Relay

    2. Fuel Pump

    3. Worn Rotor Contacts

Anyone have a similar experience? I also understand that the DME part number has changed, but I'm not sure where it goes - in the fuse box under the front compartment or under the driver's seat??? Thanks in advance...

  4. Hi all

I am an ex main dealer Porsche tech (don't hang me for that), I mainly worked on 997, 996, Cayenne, Boxster, not much older stuff. I have been looking at a C4 964 for a mate. His ABS lamp, caution lamp and (excuse my ignorance) looks like a 4wd lamp? They were flashing on over bumps etc. I stripped out the front ABS sensors and cleaned them up, tested the sensors they are putting out ac volts. I checked continuity of the wiring looms for the front sensors up to the inside of the wings. I cleaned up the earth connections at the sensor and on the inner wings. I checked the ABS brain plug for seating along with the ABS relays all 3. The brake fluid level is OK. I refitted everything and now the lights are on constantly? I was doing an oil change too so had the front of the car jacked way up high and running the engine to warm it up prior to emptying the oil tank. If I have unplugged the sensors with the engine running would that cause the warning lamp to remain on? On this system do the faults have to be cleared with a Bosch Hammer etc or does the fault memory automatically self clear (volatile or non-volatile)? I tried disconnecting the earth from the battery for a few minutes already.

Any help greatly appreciated. I may be able to help you guys with the newer stuff !!

    Many thanks

Hi If you drive the car it should put the light out if all is ok!

  5. Thank you for your help. I will check the switch tomorrow.

I have a problem with the front trunk light! the switch has power to and from it but no feed to the light bulb is ok. thanks.

Here is a DIY HERE for front microswitch.

Hi thanks but the switch is ok the light is ok but can get no power to the light. Have tested the switch and changed the light for the trunk light!

  6. I have a leaking timing chain housing that was repaired once but began leaking again. Anyone tackle this job before and is it a DIY. On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate it.

I have never done one in the car! If you drop the engine and remove the rear tinware its easy to do the rubber gaskets are the same part no for both sides now! you just put one on upside down. you will also nead the rubber seals that go under the cuped washers and put a little instant gasket on the threds to stop the oil leaking up the thred. hope this helps. Berny.

  7. Hello,

just bought myself a 964 turbo. I haven't received it yet, but i know it will need a new front bumper, as it had been in a minor accident. I'm struggling to find one, so i'm wondering if a carrera bumper fits the turbo, or is the difference between them how big?

Hi the 964 & 965 bumpers are interchangable.
