  1. Thanks....I read my manual about 60% of the way through but never finished. Kind of surprised that's in there, but glad to know that RTFM would have answered my question. :)
  2. Hi All, I live relatively close (~1/3 mile) to a freeway onramp. I was wondering how long after a cold start I can accelerate to highway speeds and "normally" drive the car (moderately spirited at best). Is there a certain oil/engine temperature I should wait for before accelerating rapidly and/or getting on the freeway, or is there some other metric for when this is okay?
  3. There was soot coming out of one of the tailpipes. Brought it in once and they looked at it and couldn't determine where it was coming from. So they cleaned the tailpipes and that was it. A couple of weeks later, the soot was back again. After bringing it in, they investigated for a fair amount of time, and eventually boroscoped the engine and found the scoring on the #6 cylinder. After finding that, Porsche agreed to replace the engine for free with a brand new one; it was a CPO car recently out of warranty.
  4. Thanks Black Stig! I had an issue with upgrading mine -- the light on the USB drive would flash for a bit, and then the update file would be gone off the drive, but the .bin file was not added meaning the upgrade had occured. After power cycling the unit via the bypass switch, the upgrade took. However, I still have the same "loading" hangs when browsing audio content on the head unit from my iPod/iPhone that I had before, until I power cycle the head. I really get the feeling the Dension 500 is a somewhat creative, cludgy "hack" more than a functional iPod connection device.
  5. In January of 2010, I had the engine in my 05 997 S replaced for free by Porsche with a new engine due to severe scoring on the #6 cylinder wall (Thank You Porsche!), and am wondering if the new engine that was replaced should have any of these RMS/IMS failures? I know it's a defect inherent in the 997.1 engine design (and 996 as well), but am hoping this defect has been worked around or resolved effectively with the new replacement engine.
  6. Really? My iPhone 4 works just fine with my 997 Dension 500, although maybe it was already installed and I did not know. Well, by "works just fine", I mean is totally slow and buggy and gets stuck at "loading..." all the time, even with the latest firmware update. It does that even with older iPods too. I can't even plug in my new iPod Classic to it without it crashing the iPod repeatedly. Need to contact Dension about both of these issues (the former I suspect they won't be able to fix).
  7. Hi All, I was wondering for those of you with high mileage 997's (say, >75K miles), how are they faring? Do any of you have one over 100K miles yet? As the current owner of a 01 CLK430 that i've put 160K miles on over the past 10 years with almost no problems (outside of normal maintenance items), and someone who is considering a used 997 with maybe 50-60K miles, how have your high mileage 997s been doing?
