  1. "She wasn't my style.... She smelt of nothing more than common sense!"

  2. That was my thought as well.... however there must be a technique using solvents (green) and low pressure water.... I have yet to see a dirty engine bay on any car for sale, at least at a reputable dealer. I would be seriously careful about using any form of high pressure wash on a modern engine bay. Cars today, P included, have a ton of electronics and other crap that the cars in the old days didn't. Getting that stuff internally wet will spell disaster. In the old days if you got the distributor wet all you had to do was blow it out with some compressed air and on your way. Not so easy today. --CC
  3. I always think that a vehicle, whether it be a car, boat or motorcycle, runs better with a clean engine... agree or not... they certainly look better. In the old days it didn't seem so hard to find a guy with a steam cleaning service that would give the engine compartment a good once over but with the newer engines and all the electrical components I am a little wary. Has anyone cleaned their 996 engine bay and have any recommendations to products, techniques, or do's and don'ts? Cheers....
  4. @ Dharn55.... yup that's the ticket and you are right... easy to go either way although I am pretty certain it will stay disabled! Thanks for your help!
  5. Dharn55... sorry for some reason the pictures were deleted.... is that the plug that I have the red arrow pointing to?
  6. I have read many threads on this topic but would like some clarification if anyone cares to comment. I thank you in advance for your input. Simply put, I would like to disable the PSE so it is on the open or loud setting all of the time regardless of speed or RPMs. 02 C4S, 6 speed, coupe, PSE without the dash mounted switch and according to a VIN search the PSE was a Factory option. As I understand it one may remove a relay that is in position 23 or disconnect an orange plug (speedo input) in the engine compartment (RHS). I have attached pictures of my engine bay in an attempt to identify this orange plug. Question: Is one method preferable to the other? Given this is a non switched application, does that change anything in the analysis or methodology of the conversion. Cheers... George
  7. Well they did only replace 2 tires on the passenger side... Porsche said to be careful of affecting the PSM.... perhaps it is as simple as that?
  8. Greetings... I am asking this for a Boxster friend... 99 Boxster, 90,000 miles, tiptronic. If driving with a light foot tranny runs thru the gears as normal.... put your foot into it and it upshifts normally to 3rd and then refuses to shift further.... tap the shifter to M and using the paddle buttons and the tranny shifts as normal. Tap the shifter back and the tranny downshifts as normal. One other detail.... the car was put off the road and there was some rim, tire, radiator and suspension damage... all repaired.... prior to the offroad experience the tranny shifted normally (I am told)... Any thoughts, input or experience is appreciated.... go to and Indy for diagnosis but I like to do my homework.... *Search* was not too successful for me...:) Cheers...
  9. No friends... fewer and fewer enemies...

  10. Well I never had that issue....and I sold them to another fella on 6speedonline and we snapped them into his 99 996 and everything worked.... My advice is to buy them with a caveat that they plug and play....
  11. I took a set of headlights from a 03 996 and plugged them straight into a 99 996.... plug and play
  12. After not too much thought and a lot of looking I decided to add a Wing and Spoiler.... I decided that performance upgrades were expensive... somewhat dubious as to the actual performance increases but I did know what I liked when I saw it... Boats, cars and women.... if I don't like the lines.... I don't go there... yes.. I know... highly subjective... so if you don't like what I did... tuff... you can't mess with my boat or GF either so keep it to yerself... hahaha... But I digress...... Kudos to Misha for the wing.... one of the highlights was driving to LA to meet him... good guy... wonderful product.... during installation there was a hitch but he was right there... answered the phone.... told me what to do and re-assured me there was no problem.... he also was bang on in terms of which wiring harness was required.... XXX-51.... I can't say enuff about this guy and his wings... He also has a pictorial DIY... 200 photos... awesome!!! Loren... an endless supplier of information and support....Thank you... thank you! Jeff at Sunset.....supplied the harness..... great guy too... good feedback and really cared about making it right.... Paul @ LA Porsche Dismantlers.... tried to source a used harness for me and did... I was operating under the impression I needed the Turbo harness but as Misha pointed out... it's the engine that drives the harness... not the body style.... These guys are good and also really care.. The roof spoiler came from Mina Galleries.... I have some fitment issues but their price was good so I don't mind...I expect to remedy that on Friday... They are responsive and when the Postal Service lost my order they shipped a replacement overnight to me.... can't complain about that!.... The install: Hughes Auto Body in Santa Barbara.... Walt is THE guy!!! I can't say enough about this guy.... A guys guy.... motorhead.... if you are in the area and need work.... PM and I will be glad to give you his number.... The Wheels...Wheel Dynamics! After struggling with 18 vs 19.... staying stock vs aftermarket... thinking about offsets and considering if 19" wheels lead to RMS and IMS failure... I visited Wheel Dynamics in LA... What I found was Eli... a knowledgeable guy with great prices and the experience to allow me to trust him regarding the selection and installation of a new set of wheels for my 02 C4S.... I was somewhat disappointed not to have the assistance of the blonde pictured on the website... I fully expected her to do the install.... however the fella that did the work was meticulous, precise and took great care whilst working on and around my car.... The showroom offers a great selection of rims to choose from and Eli carries a good stock of rims and tires.... the shop is clean and tidy and he has an array of specialty equipment ensuring a clean installation and excellent results in the mounting and balancing of your new wheels! All in all it was a great experience and I am happy with my choice: Rims: RPK - 038 19x8.5 and 19x10.5 (rear) Rubber: Nitto 235/35/19 and 315/25/19 (rear) If you want the offsets and spacer sizes...talk to Eli... he's the man! Concerning the RMS and IMS... yes I made it home OK but I expect the worst.... The question.... Chin Spoiler... I feel I need to balance the Wing... ... Lotsa guys are using the Turbo chin and I see lots of threads on this and speaking of GT3 chins and sometimes one from the Aerokit.... of course the warning seems to be not to install it alone.... but can I buy it separately? What do you think? I don't track the car... but I might just for the experience.... I guess I want the best looking (to me) and the one that provides the best balance for the car... Anyone that has done this... I would appreciate the input!!
  13. I did that and it was plug n play.... no harness.... no splicing... I was told I needed a harness but nope..... The headlights were from a 03 and went into my 99 C2
