  1. Hi, I have a 2008 cayenne s with 105k miles. Started getting p0455 code frequently. Replaced gas cap, purge valve, diagnostic pump and carbon canister. Everything is new Porsche part. Well I smoke tested the system today. Started with the t connector on vacuum pump-nothing. Disconnected purge valve and smoked back to carbon canister. The filter on the carbon canister is smoking. Question: can this be the source of the large leak p0455 code? Thanks, Chuck in Missouri.
  2. Greetings, I was on my way back from Daytona Beach after attending the Rolex24. Driving north on I-95 with the cruise control on, the truck started hesitating and eventually the CEL came on. I pulled over and smoke was coming off the back of the engine near the injection pump. I drove the truck home 300 miles in this condition. The engine idled fine (never shut it off) and the truck got 20 mpg all the way back. I pulled the codes and P1021/P1026 popped. At low speed and light throttle, it seems fine. Today I started it and it was rough for a few minutes and then started to smooth out...then smoke came off the back of the engine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The closest dealer is almost 3 hours away from me so I would like to DYI this issue. VR/Chuck
  3. I have a 2008 Cayenne S with 70k that is stock. Four months ago, I came to a stop at a red light and noticed the idle was rough. Initially I thought it may be bad gas so I got some fuel injector cleaner. Then the CEL came on. I pulled the codes with my Durametric software. No misfires, just Bank 1 P1371, P1351, and P1352 codes. Did a scan on this message board for the topic. I ordered a new valve lift actuator and replaced- No change. I took the Bank 1 actuator and installed it on the Bank 2 side- No change. I replaced all the spark plugs- No change. Changed the battery- no change. Cleaned the intake valves with a bore brush-No change. Cleaned MAFs and TB-No change. Other than the idle and CEL, the truck ran fine, had great power, and got normal mpgs (19 on hwy). Frustrated with not being able to diagnose the problem, I took it to the dealer two weeks ago. Initially they pulled the codes and said it needed a fuel purge valve and oil restrictor valve (94810425001) on bank 1. The parts took three business days to arrive. After installing them, the codes indicated the restictor valve was bad on bank 2-another couple of days. After they changed the fuel purge valve and the oil restriction valves (94810425001)on both sides the idle was still rough. At that point they called to inform me they did not know the problem and needed to call the Porsche Techline for assistance. The factory guys said the hydraulic valve (94810530803) at the back of the head needed replaced-that needed ordered too. Guess they know their stuff, the truck runs great now, but it took the dealer 11 business days to repair my truck.
  4. I have a 2008 Cayenne S with 65k that is stock. Two weeks ago, I came to a stop at a red light and noticed the idle was rough. Initially I thought it may be bad gas so I got some fuel injector cleaner. Then the CEL came on. I pulled the codes with my Durametric software. No misfires, just Bank 1 1371. Did a scan on this message board on the topic. I ordered a new valve lift actuator and replaced- No change. I took the Bank 1 actuator and installed it on the Bank 2 side- No change. I replaced all the spark plugs- No change. Other than the idle and CEL, the truck runs fine, has great power, and gets normal mpgs (19 on hwy). On start up,the idle is normal. No unusual noises or issues. I think the Durametric may be displaying the wrong code. Any suggestions like cleaning the MAFs? I am a "do it yourselfer" that has run out of things to do. The dealership is a 6 hour round trip so I am avoiding that for now. Pls advise.
  5. The Durametric program listed the fault as P0021, and I almost bought a new Varocam solenoid. The Porsche dealer said my scanner listed the wrong code and they said it was a P2181. The lesson I take away from this is that the Durametric may be right, or maybe not. If the part is expensive, you may want a second opinion.
  6. A few months ago I posted a topic concerning my 2008 Cayenne S getting a CEL and fault code of P0021, implausible signal. I reset the light several times with the durametric and at some points it would go 1500 plus miles between tripping the CEL. This week, it starting tripping it every other day. So I took the truck to the local NJ Porsche dealer this morning. I told them my findings. An hour after driving off in a 2012 Panamera S loaner with a fresh cup of coffee, the service writer called me and said the code they pulled was a P2181, coolant performance. They said the thermostat was stuck open and it would be 800 bucks for parts and labor. They were the most professional dealership I have ever used and I consider 800 getting off easy. Plus my truck was cleaned inside and out. This may shine some light on another posting from when I bought the truck in 2010. During the cold winters, the exhaust never warmed up and and it looked like clouds of water vapor coming from the exhaust pipes, embarrassing amounts. The DC dealer never could resolve. Not so impressed with the scan tool.
  7. Pls see attached file for everything you ever wanted to know about the cylinder heads. porsche CYLINDER HEAD.pdf
  8. Gents, The CEL came on last Friday so I hooked up the Durametric and ran the fault test. The only code to come up was 0021. I reset the fault and it came back on within 60 miles. The car runs perfectly fine in all areas of operation and rpm. I did a little research on this and checked the camshaft deviation while the engine was running, bank 1 read 2.62 CA and bank 2 read .37 CA. If someone can point me in the right direction on how to accomplish the below maintenance, I would really appreciate it. Semper Fi P0021 Adjustment of Inlet Camshaft in relation to Crankshaft, Bank 2 – Signal ImplausiblePossible cause of fault- Dirt in oil circuit- Sealing strips on inlet camshaft adjuster faulty- Oil pressure too low- Mechanical fault in inlet camshaft adjuster- Magnetic hydraulic valve faulty
  9. Ok, thanks. The vehicles works exceptional in every manner of things pertaining to.
  10. I have a 2008 Cayenne S with 45k miles. When it is colder than about 50F the engine warms up normally but a lot of condensation "smoke" comes out of the exhaust. Normally in most cars the exhaust system would warm up and the condensation smokes goes away. I can drive 100 miles in cold weather and this continues. There are no trouble codes on my Durametric and oil analysis shows no water/coolant in the oil. The engines does not burn excessive amounts of oil. This only happens when it gets cold. Any ideas what could cause this or is it normal?
  11. I have a 2008 Cayenne S. When I purchased the truck last year with 27k miles it had the same problem. The dealer replaced the door seals and the problem went away.
  12. I just bought a 2008 Cayenne S with 25k miles and factory warranty. I learned a lot about what to look for here on this forum, thank you. When driving my Cayenne in the cold weather of Washington DC, enormous amounts of water vapor come out of the exhaust pipes when the vehicle is cold and even when it is warmed up to operating temp. I had the dealer look at and they replaced the fuel pump under a recent recall and the truck still does it. I know the science behind why water vapor occurs, but once the exhaust is hot it usually goes away. Does the design the the Cayenne exhaust make this vehicle prone to doing this? It runs great otherwise, I am impressed.
