  1. On the assumption that the temperature reading that you're getting is correct, it would appear that coolant is not circulating at all.

Have you visually checked to ensure that the polyrib belt is correctly fitted and that the pump is actually rotating?

Was there any damage to the vanes of the old pump? If you didn't flush the entire system, did you do a like-for-like coolant exchange or were different coolants mixed?

Other than opening the burp valve and leaving it open to see if that in any way clears out any airlock, I can't think what else to suggest.

I'm sure that you are carefully monitoring the temperature with the engine idling ... and that you are not tempted to actually drive the car anymore before the problem is resolved.

  2. You might check the ballast resistors, which I believe are mounted on the front fan shroud.

If you do a forum search for "ballast resistor", I'm sure you'll find that the problem is fairly common, particularly for cars operating in high temperatures.

  3. In an emergency, use distilled water to top up. Then balance up using a mix of Porsche (or Porsche compatible) coolant and distilled water. Under normal circumstances, that would be an equal mix. You must use a coolant that is compatible with that already in your system.

Check under the carpet where the coolant reservoir is located to ensure that it's dry and that the reservoir cap is firmly screwed down.

  4. Yes, it's odd that the problems occur when the fluid is hot. However, I'd still go ahead with a fluid/filter change before considering the much more expensive options.

I'm about to do this myself. Our car (MY 2003) spent ten years in Bahrain before being shipped here. I suspect that the temperatures out there shortens the life of ATF .... and coolant.

As you appear to be intent on doing it yourself also, I'm sure you have read up on the procedure.

From what I've read, if you're not planning on using Porsche ATF, Pentosin ATF-1 is the only other recommended fluid for a Tiptronic.
