P0446 indicates that there is a problem with the activated charcoal filter / tank vent system. This is causing the mixture problems leading to the 1128/1130 codes. Possible causes for the 0446 code include:
- Purge air line plugged
- Tank vent stuck in the open state (vacuum continuously enters the tank system from the intake pipe)
- Activated charcoal filter shutoff valve is plugged/stuck in closed state
- Flow resistance of the activated charcoal filter is too high (filter deformed/plugged)
- Pressure sensor closes incorrectly (polarity reversal)
The factory manuals have a diagnosis procedure to determine and remedy the cause.

Todd, Do you have a picture or can you point me in the direction to a diagram as to where the purge line is
Thanks, Randy

I've done a search on here with no luck, as far as where to get Silver Gauge Cluster trim for MY 1999 Boxster. Also searched Google with no luck. Does anyone know where this stuff is availible? Trying to dress up the interior of my Boxster a tad.
Thanks for your help in advance. Randy

Thanks for your input Loren. Since I don't drive much at night. It's no big deal now. And if I do. I usually drive me truck as my 986 originated in CA, The windows are a very dark tint. To the point I have to roll them down to make a left turn on a 4 lane road. So I can see the median and not run over it. But I'll take your advice when the time comes. Thanks again, Randy

Ok, Just found this info on another site. Is there some way that mine could have been put into this mode? Additionally I forgot to add. When you get in the car and close the door then turn the ignition to the on position. The light comes on for about a second then goes out. Hate to bug you guys. But things like this drive me nuts!
On the interior light, if you had a new car I would say that the delivery dealer had not changed the computer to the hand-over mode with PST2. When the car is shipped on the boat it is in the sleep mode to save the battery. The interior light will not go on unless the ignition key is turned on. With PST2 it is programed at delivery to function normally - but sometimes the dealer forgets to do this. My pure guess is that it was never done and the prior owner did not know better. Take it to any dealer and they will hook your car up to the PST2 and it will take a few seconds to find out if this is the problem. Please let me know if my guess is correct or if there is an electrical problem.
Well, I happend to stop by the Porsche Dealer and talked the service manager. He explained to me that MY99 did not have a shipping mode. So what next or is he blowing smoke to charge me to work in the immobilizer?
Thanks, Randy

If you're replacing the water pump and Thermostat on a 1999 2.5 Boxster and want to purchase the hose's for both.
Water pump hose number is, 996-106-222-17
Thermostat hose is. 996-106-502-06
The thermostat hose is near impossible to find on the net unless you know the part number.. So there ya go.

I'm in search of this part number as well. Below is a pic of the hose. It's the one with the red arrow pointing to it. Pelican does not list the hose as a thermostat hose on there site in the new parts catalog. So hard to tell what part number is correct for the hose as it like the Porsche OEM parts blow up just shows allot of hoses with no description for this particular part. At least that I can find...
Mine is a 1999 986 none S
Thanks, Randy

I'll be replacing my pump and installing the low temp thermostat insert in the near future. Can you guys tell what the part numbers are for the hoses that connect to those items. I've seen the parts diagram but for the life of me, I can't tell what the immediate parts are that are associated with it. Ton's of hoses in the diagram. But I'm not going to buy every stinking hose right now. LOL
Thanks for the help in advance, Randy

Does anyone on here have any knowledge of these tops? (link below)
Including quality and how hard they are to install, if you have done one yourself.
Thanks, Randy

JFP, You know me. Always trying to acquire knowledge. Couldn't you just take the fuel line off the fuel pump. Get a piece of fuel line. Connect it to the pump and put it in a bucket. If you get fuel in the bucket. Then the pump is working? Then go down the line. Possibly fuel filter clogged and go from there. Or do the pumps fail to the point, were they may pump fuel. But not at a high enough rate? Just curious. Or is that thought? Completely out to lunch?
Thanks for your input!!!

Would some one point me in the direction of the source for the button half of the key remote?
If you're asking for the source as to where to get the button? It's in that DIY. Click on tactile switch link.

As much reading as I have done on these things. And it's TON's. Sounds like fuel issue. Like the fuel pump. Cheap try is to replace the fuel pump relay. Or check the cylinders to see if they are getting fuel into them.
Then go from there.

Did it eventualy start after it sat for awhile and did the RPM's just drop down to about 500 then die?

I'm not that familiar with the trunk release problem. But here is a DIY on non functioning key fob's.

Can you open it using the lever in the car?

Thanks JFP. I've used in in my Ford F150 several times and it has never been issue.

I recently put some Techron in MY 99 Boxster and once in awhile now. When I blip the throttle at idle the engine dies. My coworker has a BMW Z3 and he asked me to get some when I got mine. His car is dying periodicaly as well. Is the Techron just loosening up crap in the tank, throttle body and causing this to happen? Had anyone else had this problem?
Thanks, Randy

Personally, I think if a name is going to be dropped? And the member is a member of this forum. It should be sent to Loren and let him make that decision. Just my opinion. Glad you're ok and no one was hurt dgreen!

That does look like a sweet deal. What I have found is the little crap. Interior parts, etc. Are for the most part, inexpensive. EBay, junk yards and even dealers. When looking for parts, shop, shop, shop. The prices can vary by a great deal of dollars. What's funny is. I have seen used parts on Ebay sell for as much as new parts at dealers and junk yards the same. Just research and you'll be fine...
Good luck!!!

Good question. When I bought my 1999 I was checking comparable models with like mileage and they were all over the place. Checked them on Ebay. Not that I would buy a car from there. But just interested in what they were going for. Checked Auto Trader and so on. I could find no rhyme nor reason for the pricing. Obviously ones with all the service records are going to demand more money. That's why people keep them. But other than that??? Dunno. I would like to see peoples opinion on this as well.

Sorry William. I'm afraid I can't help you with your question. I replaced the Crankshaft position sensor. Not the Camshaft sensor. But I have seen threads on the site with the info you need.
Best of luck, Randy

I emailed them and they called me. All they have are the stock style bumpers. Searched all over the net for one like yours and no luck. ;)
It's an aerokit front bumper. They can be found on 996 Carreras with factory aerokits or GT3 Mk1.
Thanks Loren.

Just FYI SAK. mine has part number 996-201-221-03 and that's the one with the line out the bottom. And just my luck the more expensive of the two. I'm getting the same P0446 code.
Randy
PS Call Sunset Porsche for pricing. I received quotes for consideribly less than MSRP.
