  1. Tool Pants, vfxbox, Care to tackle my question? Haven't had an answer from any of the forum members, and I really need some help...
  2. Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone can recommend an installer for a new top that I already own. I'm stuck in the reinstallation and there isn't one anywhere around here to talk to as I live in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. To give you an idea - the closest Porsche dealership is 7 hours away, and I live in the land where people will spend $70.000 on a pickup truck. In fact, there are less than one million people in my Province, and probably only 8 or 10 Boxsters. Would appreciate contact info for anywhere in the USA or Canada where you know they are familiar with the R&R of Boxster tops as I hope to call them and ask for help. TIA!
  3. Hmmm. A week has passed and still no answer to my problem. I've either gone into new territory or everyone's out golfing! Would either of the forum leads mind taking a stab at this? Please? Maybe I just need to clarify my question? Maybe someone knows of a place that does lots of Boxster S top replacements and could give me an email or phone contact there? Had our first frost this week. Hoping to get this top properly on before the snow flies as I have to store the car somewhere inaccessible over the winter. TIA, herc_captain
  4. Thanks for your response Chris, I also had these instructions, and they are pretty good, but the author's top didn't require attaching the sides to the clamping rails on either side of the main bow. Mine does, as per the original, and looks loose in that area because I wasn't able to get the clamping rails off as per the service manual. I'm worried that this might be a problem at high speeds so I want to get it installed as properly as I can. To repeat my question to this esteemed and learned forum - Is there a trick to getting the clamping rail out of the main bow? I've removed the plastic plugs from the inside, but the outside seems to be covered by a black metal-looking cover. I tried to gently remove this cover, but no luck so far. I don't want to break anything as my nearest dealer is 7 hrs away... Am I missing something? Is there a trick to getting the clamping rail out? Also, once it is out and the new top installed on it, is there a trick to getting it back in as I'm certain the new top will not easily stretch far enough to line up the holes... Anybody know? Chris may also soon need the info... TIA, herc_captain
  5. I'm stuck... I have a 2000 Boxster S with a rear window full of cracks. I bought a very high quality replacement, but can't get the rear sides attached properly. 6. Loren - you were absolutely right. :clapping: New coolant cap = no smell on start + no fear of a greater problem. I just couldn't believe that there wouldn't be some residue associated with the old cap leaking for 30 seconds while pressure and temperature rose on start! Thanks so much for you help.
  7. Thanks Loren, The cap's part number does end with a 0, but it and the top of the resevoir are bone dry. Is it possible that the coolant system pressurizes on start and the cap very quickly starts working 100%? I can try to get a replacement cap but I can't imagine not feeling some residue in that area if this was the case...
  8. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this before... When I start my 2000 Boxster S I smell a bit of coolant in the air for a minute or so. Not sure that if it is coming from the exhaust or the engine compartment, but I have no visible leaks and the system loss is less than 1/2 cup over 2-3 months of daily driving. I've had this 'problem' since I bought the car used last summer. Obviously I'm concerned about it being a major repair or damaging the engine, etc. Ideas/advice?
  9. I live 7 hrs away from a dealer, but was told a PSTII computer was needed to reset the light. Can you remember which Baum Tools item will do the trick?
