  1. Good call. The amount of debris appears to be in line with a valve stem seal vs say a RMS.
  2. I will go over to Rennlist and see what they have to say.
  3. This is what I found in the oil pan. All are ferrous. IMSB failure??? Paperclip is for scale.
  4. Then its a rebuild, next to impossible in Hawaii, or a replacement. I will start looking around for replacements. Anyone have suggestions as to where. I could ship the car to my brother-in-law in San Diego for repair. These results were from an oil change when I first got the car. The oil only had around 1000 miles on it at the time. 6. Thanks, I am already in the process of doing that. Pulled a sample when I did the oil change. Will mail out tomorrow.
  7. Changed oil and filter and discovered this when inspecting filter element. 2003 Carrera, 54K miles, uses 1 quart every 3000 miles. Thoughts on possible causes appreciated.
  8. OK, found it. I failed to correctly position the hose clamp on the hose coming off the top of the reservoir. All is well in Paradise again.
  9. Turns out the previous owner tried to jury-rig a fix for the broken sensor connector for the ABS speed sensor and Brake wear sensor connector. I need the replacement wire harness for the left rear without PSM. Pelican shows front only or harnesses for cars with PSM. Since I plan on only using the connector and 12 inches or so of the replacement harness to splice into the existing wiring can I assume any of the available harnesses meet my needs?
  10. What other vendor might I look at.
  11. 2003 Carrera Coupe, 6 speed without PSM; Pelican only lists front sensors. I am 99% sure all four sensors (front and rear) are the same. My left rear is cracked. Am I correct in my assumption?
  12. On my 6 speed 2003 Carrera Coupe I am searching for a replacement center display screen on the instrument cluster. I have found one vendor that will replace the display for me but I would prefer to do it myself. The problem is I can't find this particular display that fits my car. All that pops up are displays for tiptronic cars or earlier models which will not work. My MPH read out is on the left side screen. Any suggestions?
  13. These were in the car when I bought it but for the life of me I can't figure out where they go.
  14. OK, finally got a 0 - 30 inches of water vacuum gauge and fabbed up an oil cap. At operating temp at idle I read 5" of vacuum. The AOS had been changed on this car twice previously. One of the reasons I went with this 2003 Carrera is it came with complete maintenance records from the day it was initially sold plus the IMSB and RMS had been updated.
  15. If it happens again I will do what Loren suggests. It does look as if the cluster had been removed before so I will adopt a wait and see attitude.
  16. If it was a fuse it would not come back on.
  17. 2003 Carrera Coupe; As the title says. Stopped to get gas, turned off car and went to reset mileage but the center display was blank. All other displays were fine. Filled tank, started car and center was still blank. Ran an errand and when restarting the center display returned. Any ideas what I might start with?
  18. Once again thanks.
  19. What should be the correct vacuum reading at the oil cap. I changed oil and filter today. Started the engine to get thing flowing and it ran very rough. Put the oil cap back on and everything smoothed out like normal. Which raises the question of what is the correct vacuum level at the oil cap at idle. I do know a failing AOS can be detected by a higher than normal vacuum level at the cap. So now I plan to fab a cap with a fitting to measure crankcase vacuum level.
  20. I will. This replaces my 2017 Corvette Grand Sport, which replaced my 2012 Cayman R.
  21. Its a basalt black 2003 Carrera. 53K miles, Currently needs radiators cleaned (todays project), both reset/adj buttons replaced (missing), oil level sensor fault, intermittent flashing (slow) engine compartment fan failure (fan is running) and both bank 1 and 2 low efficiency cat warnings.
  22. Once again thanks. I picked this 2003 Carrera up a week ago and am working through learning about it as well as correcting some of the faults it currently has.
