  1. The exhaust alone should cut down the turbo lag. I barely notice it anymore since I upgraded mine. My personal preference is to do the tune and be done with it. Anything else and you'll be trading higher top end for lower reliability. You'll also need a bunch of supporting mods (to upgrade the fuel system) if you want to go any further than just a tune will allow again affecting reliability and smog readiness. One thing I'm considering myself, however, are GT2RS intercoolers. This should actually increase the life of your engine and give you a bit more power as it's WAY more efficient at cooling the intake air. If you decide to upgrade the turbos anyway, really read up on it. There are a ton of tuners that sell crap parts and just want to make a quick buck. They'll sell you their "expertise" but at the end of the day they're usually just mechanics making guesses about what they THINK will work better without the science and engineering to back it up. Over on 6speed, somebody did a test of a bunch of aftermarket intercoolers and they actually performed WORSE than stock. Be careful, be prudent and be slow would be my advice.
  2. I suspect it's a vacuum leak, likely caused by a failed Diverter Valve. That's what it was when I got those codes. When I took the DV's off, one of them, if you sucked on the top, would breathe freely. If you haven't done it before, swapping the DVs is a pain. Once you've done it, it's pretty easy.
  3. I read this post before attempting my own DV install this weekend. This was a lifesaver and I can't thank you enough. Unfortunately it didn't include disconnecting the airbox to look for a hose clamp that was dropped into the engine bay. That adds another hour to the install process :P Thanks so much... the hose clamp puller was a life-saving suggestion.
  4. Hijack, I'm a recent addition to the club too! Just got an '01 turbo. Actually, on mine, the stock DV had already failed. I do think the tuners are right about this. Those do seem to fail quite often from my reading. The parts i removed seemed pretty cheap. My failed one had a cracked diaphragm valve. philipj, what turns you off about vivid? Are they not that reputable, or is it that they mostly sell cheapo aftermarket parts? Another thing, what happened with the BMC filter, why was it so bad? I guess it could cause MAF CEL's, which I guess would mean you might have to clean your MAF regularly... What were your issues with it? I was thinking about taking a plunge into the exhaust/tune world myself. Have been looking at the AWE exhaust and the Switzer L1 package. Any opinions on those? I also understand that most of the tuners are replaceable with one another. Thanks!
