  1. OK, well that is certainly graphic enough. Thanks for the information.
  2. Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the potential for gear box chatter, however the potential for engine damage is new to me. Can you please elaborate on the potential engine damage that can be caused by an aluminum flywheel? What specifically can happen?
  3. Ended up finding Jorgan Automotive in Ann Arbor Michigan. Rebuilt my rack in one day, sent it back to me with new boots, clips, and Loctite for the tie rod connections. Also give lifetime warranty - all for $300!! So I highly recommend them
  4. Folks Completed spark plug replacement and tube o ring replacement with no issues. Used the transom plug and it was a little fussy but worked. Just need to rememeber to put it back in my friend's boat before he goes fishing..... Thanks for the advice.
  5. Also want to note that Jorgan included new boots, clips and loctite for the tie rod connections!
  6. I have a 2000 996 C2 and have just dealt with a leaking steering rack. After shopping the rebuilt options and getting prices from $886 to a low of $450, I found a shop that rebuilt the rack for about $300 and gives a lifetime warranty. Jorgan Automotive in Ann Arbor Michigan is the place to go. The got it Monday, rebuilt is and sent it back to me Tuesday afternoon.
  7. I have a 2000 996 C2. I need to replace the clutch. I have searched but not found much on the actual type and brand of clutch to install. The car is stock. It is a daily driver and will see autocross use as well. I also plan to teach my 17 year old daughter how to drive it. (Yes, I am crazy...but I want her to be a skilled driver...we did ice racing in the winter and will autocross this summer). I have done this type work before and have a well equipped shop. So my questions: 1. Dual vs. single mass - It seems to be about the same price for both styles. I am intrigued with the aluminum for the obvious reduction in rotating mass. Downside I am aware of is noise at idle and possibly ease of drivability. So what do you recommend? 2. Bone stock versus the Stage 2 or Stage 3 upgrades on the clutch kit? Recommendations? 3. I like the offerings from Patick Motorsports, Spec Clutch and Speedmerchants - any feedback on these shops and their offerings? Patrick is the most expensive but balance all the parts. Speedmechants have a very good deal on aluminum flywheels - any issues with these? How about Spec Clutch? 4. Regarding RMS replacement - I hear if it is dry, don't touch it. Agree? 5. Regarding IMS bearing replacement from LN Engineering - any experience with this? Recommendations? 6. Any other advice before I tear into this project? Thanks in advance.
  8. TomCat: Here is a set of instructions on Pedro's Garage Web Site: http://www.pedrosgar...Y_Projects.html Regards, Maurice. Maurice Thanks a bunch. Well documented procedure and love the creativity on the transom plug. Thank you to Canmanluge as well!

  10. Outstanding. Next best options was new from Pelican at $774. Thanks a bunch! Still looking for any advice on changing the rack, but the factory manual has a decent procedure. Sounds like a project for Saturday! BTW its Zimm's Autotech with the rebuilt rack. I think I will go this route rather than used or new and give it a go. I used to buy all my 914 stuff from them, glad they are still around.

  13. I have a 2000 996 C2, 6 speed, 90K miles. I have oil leakage from the spark plug area, and am assuming I have bad spark plug tube o rings. Given this, I see that the price of replacement tubes is not much more than just the o rings. Should I just buy the new tubes? Also, I have found spark plug replacement instructions, but was wondering if anyone has instructions on how to remove and replace the tubes. Thanks PS - kind of ironic that I can't escape tubes that leak oil in Porsches - I have replaced push rod tube o rings on my 914's and oil return tubes on my 911 SC. I understand that the later 996 and 986 engines do not have the tubes - is that right?
  14. I have a 2000 996 C2, 6 speed, 90k miles. I just finished inspecting the front end of the car looking for the source of a fluid leak. Sure enough the drivers side end of the steering rack is leaking. Does anyone have a DIY guide for replacement of the steering rack? Also, Pelican seems to have the lowest price on the rack at $774 - anyone find a TRW rack any cheaper than that?
