  1. I have a 77 911 SC that has a 83 or 84 3.2L engine that has a newer non CIS fuel injection system. I guess that's the Jetronic system? I'm not really sure. Most of the time the engine runs great except when it is first started. It starts fine but I get a lot of idle bounce or hunting. Aside from the posibilities of vaccumme leaks I was told by a mechanic to lower the idle as my idle is set too high and that could cause the problem. It is currently at around 1200 RPM and should be around 850 RPM. The problem is I'm not sure how to adjust it. I was told it is done by using the hex head screw front and center on the throttle body but first you have to jump out a couple of pins on the diag port. Does anyone know what pins I need to put the jumper on. I tried a few combinations and found a couple the brought the idel up but the rest did nothing. Also when I did jump out the pins and turned the hex head idel screw it did nothing. Is that the actual adjusting screw or is it just a cap and the screw is under it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If someone has a pin out diagram for the diagnostic port that would be great. Also if you know of a good book on this injection system that would be good also. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the feed back on this. You could be right about the year on the motor. I was told that it was a 3.2L so it very well could be a 84. Will any power Source do as long as it’s switched by the ignition? It doesn’t need to be controlled by a thermostat or anything it just runs all the time? I don’t want to cause any more problems with my electrical. I think now I have a bad battery or alternator. Came out this morning and had to boost it to get it going , drove to work it was fine when I got there. Came out after work and the battery wouldn’t turn the car over. Fun fun fun.
  3. I was looking around in the engine compartment to see if I could see any obvious air leaks in the vacuum system that would cause my cold stalling problem (see past post) and noticed that there is what looks to be a blower motor. It's located in a black housing on the top left side of the engine. It looks like it hooks into the heating / cooling system for the engine. Pardon my ignorance as I'm new to these cars but can someone tell me exactly what this blower is used for. The reason I ask is the wires that go to this motor are cut off so obviously it’s not working. The car is a 77 911S and the original 2.8 engine was replaced with a 1983 3.2 litre. I’m just wondering if this blower is a leftover from the previous engine and not needed on the 3.2 L or is this blower used somehow during warm up and could be causing my problem. Thanks
  4. I would sugest Pelican parts My link
  5. My 77 911S Targa is difficult to shift into 1st gear. This is more difficult when the car is stopped so most of the time I try to drop it into 1st as I coast into a stop although to do this can be tricky because if you are going too fast it will grind. Do I have a syncro problem on first gear, if there is a syncro on first, or is this normal. I haven't checked the linkage adjustment yet but it's on my list. My other thought on this was is it a cluch problem not fully releasing. My cluch is all top heavy and only engages in the top few inches.
  6. I did a little reading up on the CIS system and it does sound like this could be something hard to pin point. One thing I should add is if I start the car and give it a little gas to bring the idle up it will keep running. If I do that for a couple of minutes it will idle on it's own. With that said if it is cold outside and I try to drive it too soon it will stall the first time I bring the car to a stop. After that it runs fine. Also runs fine when the weather is warm.
  7. Thanks for the quick reply. I have a fair mechanical understanding of engines as I have tinkered with cars and engines for quite a while. But this whole air cooled engine thing and complex oil system is something new to me. I just didn't want to do damage to the engine by running it low on oil. The actual oil pressure is not too bad but it really fluctuates with the RPM but I'm told that's normal. Where is the sender unit for the oil level, is it in the tank or sump?
  8. My 77 911S Targa 3.2L keeps stalling until it's warmed up for a few minutes. Could this be the cold start valve? If so where is this valve located?
  9. When it's cold outside, just above freezing is it normal for the oil level gage to read in the red or do I have a problem? 1977 911S Targa but has a 1983 3.2L engine. Jamie
