  1. Hi all,

Yes. Finally, I have fixed the P1126 problem. It's the bad Air Oil Separator (AOS).

The problem is not MAF. It's not Oil filler tube. There was no broken vacuum hose anywhere.

One most important thing to check is to check the J tube connected to the throttle body.

This is the easiest thing to check instead of spending a lot of money on other unnecessary repairs.

If you see oil in the connector, then the AOS is bad. The method of trying to remove the oil stick

while the engine is running didn't work.

It took me 5 hours to replace the AOS. The trick for the replacement is simply cut the AOS bellows from below and

remove the clamp from the top. Then install the screw type clamp.

    Thanks for all the helps.

    Steve

Glad you found the problem and got it fixed.

Just to clarify, you can test the AOS by removing the oil fill cap while the engine is running, not the dipstick.

  2. Well, my replacement AOS is faulty!!! its a shame. I am looking at the design and thinking about makeing a replacement from scratch. I think I can pull it off. We will see.

What is your oil level... Is it well above the full mark?

Have you had a chance to check your oil level? I wonder too much oil in the motor causes AOS failure??

  3. Hi,

P1126 is the only code on my 1999 Boxster. After I cleared the code, the same code always came back after driving around 50 miles.

Replaced MAF, air filter and even the O2 sensor, still didn't help.

I checked the hose at the bottom of the air oil separator and it seems is OK.

I ran out of idea. May be vacum leak somewhere? Anything else I should check?

    Thanks.

    Steve

Have you tested your AOS? While the car is running and warmed-up remove the oil fill cap... Is the cap difficult to remove? Does the idle drop and motor almost die? If so, the AOS is bad. Also look at your gas cap seal, does it have cracks like the one in this picture?

  4. what is the best way to test the new AOS???

As mentioned by Logray the cap is difficult to remove while the motor is running. Also after removing the oil fill cap the idle will drop and the motor will almost die if the AOS is bad (make sure the motor is warm when you run the test)... If the idle goes up the AOS is probably good.

  5. 2001 Boxster

    Try 9520

Thanks Loren that was a good code.

I have a 2001 Boxster with over 219,000 miles on it. I have owned the car since 2005 and perform most of the maintenance myself, this was the first time I have disconnected the battery. Thanks again.

  6. The shop obd2 reader was originally only picking up the P0430 cat code. I cleaned my maf, poured some techron cleaner in, and reset me ecu. 50 miles later and armed with a Durametric, the fault code returned along with P1128 and P1130- Oxygen sensing adaptation idle range bank 1 and 2.

Any ideas on what's going on? My oil cap is on tight, and there are no driveability issues. I hope I didn't screw up the maf, but I would think just spraying it with maf cleaner wouldn't break it...

Clear you trouble codes with the Durametric, you may have created the P1128 and P1130 when you opened the oil fill cap testing for AOS issues.

  7. I am looking to hear from other high mileage owners. How many miles does your Boxster have and what have you put into it to keep it going.

I purchased a MY99 Boxster used from a dealer in 2004 with 30k miles on it. It has been great. Aside from routine maintenance (tires, brakes, rotors, etc.) I have only had to have it in the shop one time for CEL gremlins which turned out to be MAF and low radiator fluid. Today it is in the shop for the 90k service. It is also getting a new clutch, front brakes & rotors, and front engine mount.

I'm looking to 100k and beyond!

    Happy motoring!

100,000 mile club?? How about the 200,000 mile club? I have a 2001 Boxster 2.7 with 209,000 miles on it. It's my daily driver, I have owned this 986 since 2003. No major issues, I have replaced brakes, windshield, battery, water pump (at 204,000 miles), and many sets of tires. I don't track it but drive pretty hard, I like to hear those RPM's hit 6k but I don't care much for the speeding tickets. I change the oil every 3500 - 4000 miles, using Mobil 1 5W30. I believe it's important to get the car up to temp after start-up (10 minutes/miles) to ensure no water moisture remains in the oil system after shut-down. DRIVE THOSE BOXSTERS!

    Enjoy!
