  1. Porsche also updated the mounting hardware in 2002 ( I think?). When my car was still under the factory warranty I complained about it and they updated the hardware - it made a big difference. Porsche redesigned the Centering Pins for the Cab to a one piece model (left and right side) see TSB 6110 in April of 03 because the older centering pins were manufactured as two pieces (one piece was the pin and the other was a 'cap') The cap cracked or would fall off the pin over time making the top loose. The new part is one piece and its a bit thicker than the old design. I bought the new pins from Sunset Porsche for 27.00 ea and changed it over in a matter of two minutes on my MY00 C4 Cab. So, that settled one source of the rattles in my top. I agree that there are several areas where the noises which are described as creaks, squeaks, clicks and rattles.. But I also understand that the car is what it is ...Great! and well... everthing can be fixed over time. So its great to have all of your experiences to learn from. Bob
  2. I recently ordered the new one piece centering pegs that replace the older style pegs that are referred to in TSB 6110. These pegs are thicker and they don't appear to fit into the mounts (female end) on the top of the windshield frame. I haven't tried to change these yet but it doesn't seem like it will work. Has anyone replaced these centering pegs which are supposed to help with top rattles? There are no instructions or diagrams in TSB 6110 but it does refer to Tech Manual Group 6> repairs 61-99 Replacing convertible top frame. Loren, have there been posts on this? I can't seems to find them. Thanks Bob
  3. Izzy, The November 05 issue of 'The NOR'EASTER' mag ( NE Chapter of PCA) mentions that the Engine Compartment lid has a sensor and if the the lid is out of alignment or not fully seated, it causes the top to not work intermittently. No details on the write up but I'd thought I'd mention it if you haven't already checked this. Bob
  4. There has been a lot of discussion of the relative merits of the Fabspeed mufflers vis a vis other aftermarket exhaust systems. While I have participated in that discussion and concluded that the Fabspeed mufflers were too loud for me (00 C4 Cab), I do have a final issue to deal with and would like feedback. My car had the Fabspeed headers on it along with the mufflers. I went back to stock exhaust but left the headers on the car. What I notice is that the car has a very high pitch whine (whistle) between 2 and 3k RPM on the tach. No matter what gear I am in, the sound appears between 2 and 3. I took the car to the dealer and the service manager listened to the car. The first thing he said was "Does this car have headers?" I told him and he said "well that is your 'problem' The headers do have this characteristic. Live with it or take it off and go back to your stock headers." My question is, Do Fabspeed headers or any other for that matter have this characteristic high pitch sound issue? I could ask the guys at Fabspeed but thought I would throw it out there before asking them. Any comments would be appreciated. Bob
  5. I recently purchased an 00 C4 Cab with the Fabspeed headers and mufflers. My first impresssion was that these are LOUD. After driving with them for a week, I couldn't take it. I put the stock mufflers back on the car but left the headers. Way better!! Perhaps if one has a coupe and keeps the windows rolled up they would be OK. But not in a convertible. I literally could not play tunes in the car. Sound is a personal matter but I am very happy with my decision to take them off the car. Sure the sound is a bit closed now. I am going to try the cold air kit and see if that is better for me personally. Hope you work out your issues with the muffler. Bob <{POST_SNAPBACK}> <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

  7. I have a 2001 Boxster with a windshield washer that suddenly stopped working after I filled the washer container. Has anyone experienced washer failure and if so, how should I repair it? Thanks Bob
  8. Thanks for your advice. I am going to opt back to stock mufflers and will leave the headers where they are as you have suggested. Haven't quite decided on the filter but leaning toward OEM as well.
  9. Well it looks like I do have a normal condition going here. I checked the air filter and it is a K & N. Should I change it back to OEM to lessen the noise? ALthough the Fabspeed muffler has a lot going for it... It is just too loud for my taste. Should I consider going back to the OEM mufflers as well? Thanks guys for your quick response!
  10. First of all, I am new to this Board and it is very impressive. Great advice and knowledgeable members! I recently purchased (third owner) a MY00 C4 Cab with 12k miles 6 speed. The previous owner (second) installed a Fabspeed Muffler and Headers along with a piggy back computer to max out horsepower and drove the car about 6k in just over two years. The car was loaded with options that brought the MSRP to nearly 102k and it was in showroom condiiton. It's a real beauty and I'm excited to own it. Now that I am driving the car, I notice a continuous high pitched whine that varies with RPM. Almost sounds like a supercharger (but it doesn't have one). The pitch of the whine goes up with the RPM. Someone mentioned that all Porsches have this characteristic but usually at redline. Anyone have thoughts on what it might be? Is this normal? I'd like to bring it in to the dealer with some info behind me if I can. Many thanks, Bob :drive:
