Ok, I'll describe it the best I can. The noise I am getting is obvious at highway speeds. I you have travelled on a jet often you will know what I am talking about. It is a cyclic whining noise. It does not go away if I put the car in neutral and foot off the gas pedal, so I'm assuming it has noting to do with the drive train. On back streets there is no noise but again foot off the gas and in neutral, I can feel a mild grinding with my foot barely on the brake pedal. Any help on how to confirm bad bearing will be appreciated.

Well I did a little troubleshooting and finally found out that both the door lock actuator motors were frozen. I had to dismantle the two door lock assemblies and forced the motors to turn. Lubed it and works fine. Easy fix considering replacement of both door lock assemblies $400 with tax. Looks like the PO may have got some water in the door at some point and didn't drive it much, 6k miles in 4 years. Anybody need help with dis assembly of the lock mechanism, I can help.

99 996 C4 50kmiles, bought a couple of months ago, power locks was not working. Good price so I thought shouldn't be a hard fix.
The problem;
If I use the key to lock, I can hear the gas door actuator cycle and a couple of clicks under the driver seat. No obvious sound from the door lock actuator. horn beeps couple of times and passenger door remains unlocked, driver door is locked. Same behavior when I use the key fob except, driver's door remains unlocked.
Removed both driver and passenger door lock assembly checked all microswitches based on the article on "renntech-Diy common fixes" Inner and outer door handle switches work fine. Only microswitches I haven't checked are trunk and decklid. I put the durametic tool on it and here are the screen shots
Drivers side secured closed
Passenger side secured closed
Drivers side locked blank
Passenger side locked blank
Drivers door blank
Passenger door closed
Front luggage compartment closed
Rear luggage/engine compartment blank.
what is confusing is that "Driver door secure" conflicts with "Driver door" don't know what to make of it. "Rear luggage/engine compartment" may be a problem too....

My brother figured he would get more use out of the
car if he returned it to stock.

My01 996TT suspect wheel bearing - Need help

Interesting!!! I did inspect the pads and rotors yesterday. The rotors could use some resurfacing. Also, jacked up the car and tried to see if there was any play in the bearings. No obvious play, steering wheel seems to move with with minimal movement on the wheels. No bearing play when I try to jiggle the wheel at 12 and 6 O'clock positions. I will inspect the pads and rotors throughly next weekend. Thanks
