  1. Hi, P1126 is the only code on my 1999 Boxster. After I cleared the code, the same code always came back after driving around 50 miles. Replaced MAF, air filter and even the O2 sensor, still didn't help. I checked the hose at the bottom of the air oil separator and it seems is OK. I ran out of idea. May be vacum leak somewhere? Anything else I should check? Thanks. Steve
  2. Hi all, Finally got the air change over valve and electric change over valve replaced and the problem is fixed. The P0410 code hasn't returned for 500 miles. I didn't do this myself and had my mechanic do it. He also replaced all the vacuum lines in the area. He charged me for 2 and half hours of work so it's reasonable. Thanks for all the helps. Steve
  3. mo Hi, Thanks for the information. I still haven't done it. I opened the panel behind the back seat. I saw the alternator. It seems it's more difficult removing alternator than removing the intake manifold. I think I can remove the bolts 1-2-3-4. For the bolt #5, it's under a rigid hose and I think the hose is connected to the air oil separator. The hose is in the way. I disconnected the hose connector at the oil separator end but seems I can't clear the path so that I can remove the bolt #5. Any suggestion on this? For the bolt 6, I think I can remove it from the panel behind the back seat. The space around the manifold is just too tight and I am very nervous about touching any hose in the area. I am afraid that I might break the hoses. I am pretty sure my machanic will charge me a lot of money on this. I haven't given up yet. Thanks. Steve
  4. Hi JP, Thanks for the response. It's nice to know that I don't need to remove the intake manifold. I haven't done the task yet because I am not sure that I can remove the intake manifold because of the tight space around the engine. I got my air change over valve and I will try to replace it from the panel behind the seat. I will probably order the electric change over valve and replace it too. Steve
  5. Hi, The P0410 code kept returning for every 90 miles driven. This is a 1999 Boxster. Did the search on the forum and there are many causes for the code. One possible cause is the defective air change over valve that's directly connected to Secondary Air Injection Pump. I checked the vaccuum hoses and they are not broken. I am thinking about replacing the air change over valve. It's the #2 in the attached picture. I noticed that in order to change it, I'll need to remove the intake manifold above the valve. How difficult is it to remove the intake manifold on the passenger side? If I can remove it, I know I can change the valve. I appreciate your help. Steve
  6. Hi all, My 99 Boxster is having the oil leak on the passenger side of the engine. The oil dripped to the top of the exhaust pipe and caused the light smoke after driving a while. I am not sure if it's safe to continue driving like this. What's the possible cause of the oil leak? What area around the engine I should check for the oil leak? I am attatching a picture of the leak under the engine. It's next to the passenger side wheel. Thanks for your help. Steve
  7. Hi Loren and Glyn, I think I found the problem. Is the middle coil pack on the driver side for cylinder 5? The cable connected to the coil pack for some reason was not completely clicked in. I got coil pack replaced by the mechanic before. No matter how I tried, I just couldn't click the cable to the coil pack. I think the new coil pack is defective. The connection between the engine and the coil pack was loosen and didn't have a solid connection. I think I got it this time. Thanks a lot for everyone's help. I love this forum. Steve

  9. Hi, It seems that the DIY link posted here is for 996 series (Carrera) . I am still having problem finding plugs for Boxster after I removed the wheels. The picture posted on the link is different from what I saw for Boxster. Does anyone have pictures for the removal of 986 (Boxster) plugs? Thanks for your help. Steve
  10. DO NOT drive the car with a flashing CEL - damage to the catalytic converter will occur (and they are very expensive). P1317 Misfire, Cylinder 5, Emission Relevant Potential causes: - Fouled, faulty or incorrect - spark plugs - Contact resistance - Loose contacts If the coil pack is good I would replace the spark plug and also pull back the boot on the coil pack connector - looking for corrosion or bad connections. Hi Loren, Thanks for the help. First time ever, I jacked up the Boxster and crawled underneath the car. I saw the ignition coil packs and by using the 5mm allen wrench, I sucessfully removed one pack. There is a cable going up to somewhere above from the coil pack and a big deep hole that the long nose of the coil pack is inserted to. Where are the spark plugs? Are they connected to the cable above the coil packs? Or they are inside the deep holes that coil packs are inserted? Also I noticed that I need a special tool to remove and install the plug. From internet resources, it says I need the special snap on tool to remove the plug. Will regular spark plug socket work for the Boxster? If not, do you know where is the best place to get it? I spent too much money by using the mechanic trying to fix the misfiring. This time, I want to at least to try to fix it myself. Thanks again. Steve
  11. Hi all, The CEL for 1999 Boxster is on again. The OBD scanner shows P1317 - Misfire, Emission Related, signal Implausible Cyl, 1-6. When I started the car, the engine misfired and ran very roughly. The CEL was flasing. I had spark plugs, ignition coil pack replaced about 1 month ago. Also replaced the air/oil separator to fix the problem of too much white smoke. What does this CEL code mean? Where should start to check? Your suggestion is appreciated. Thanks. Steve

Thanks Barry G Hi Barry, I bought the air/oil separator from partsgeek.com, it's $90.00. I have my friend install for me. He is a mechanic and charged me $170.00. I did a lot of research trying to figure out how to do it myself, then I finally gave up because I didn't think I could do it myself. Steve

  14. Hi all, Just want to update what's going on with the engine misfiring of my 99 Boxster. It's not normal. Eventually I got the cel code P1126. It's the air/oil separator. I replaced it and all the misfiring and smoke went away. Thanks for all the wonderful help from all of you. Steve
  15. Hi Maurice: Yes, the problem is the air/oil separator. I bought one from internet for about $80 and my mechanic put it in for me. All the problems went away including the engine misfiring. Thanks a lot for your help. Steve
  16. Hi all, This just happened for my 1999 Boxster. When I start the car in the morning especially when it's cold, I got so much while smoke coming out from the exhaust pipe. It's way too much and I don't think it's nornal. After a while, CEL will be turned on. I got the code P1126. Sorry it's not P1026. It's a typo. After googling a little bit, I am starting to think that this might be caused by the bad oil separator. Before I spend money, I need your opinion. Thanks. Steve
  17. The problem is that there is no fault code. I use the OPB-II scanner and it's clean.
  18. Adding a bottle of "water removal" to the full tank of gas does fix the problem. My boxster is running very well without misfiring even after it sat in the garage for 10 days. I want everyone to know this before they waste a lot of money on uncessary repairs. Steve
  19. Thanks. I am glad it's not a big problem. I googled it and found out that it might be some moisture in the gas and by adding dry gas to a full tank of gas will fix the problem somewhat. Steve
  20. Hi all, My 1999 Boxster is having a problem of the engine misfire when I start the car first time in the morning especially when it's cold or it sits for a few days. There was no check engine light. After I drove the car just for a few minutes, then it ran very smooth and there was no longer the misfire. The engine ran whole day without misfiring until the next morning when I start the car again. I replaced all the coil packs and the spark plugs and that doesn't fix the problem. What might be the cause of the misfiring? I appreciate your help. Steve
  21. Hi, I have a 1999 Boxster with tiptronic transmission. When I park with the engine running, I can't not move the shifter from "P" to "D". I can't even push the shifter's button down to shift. If I turn the key a little bit in the ignition, switch, then I can push down the shifter button and move the shifter from "P" to "D". Right now, before I start the engine, I alway try to turn the key a little bit, I then push down the shifter button, start the engine and move the shifter to drive. What's the problem with the shifter? I changed the ignition switch but it doesn't fix the problem. Any help is greatly apprecaited. Steve
  22. Hi, My car is a 1999 Boxster with Tiptronic transmission. Sometimes, when I moved the shifter to "D" position (i.e. automatic), the tiptronic shift indicator on the instrumental panel started blinking and I got the shifting problem. The shift indicator shoud be a solid green not blinking. If I pushed very hard on the shifter, then the blinking disappeard and the shift indicator returned to normal which is a solid green. Then there is no shifting problem. I think the tiptronic shifter has bad contact somewhere. Do I need to replace the whole tiptronic shifter? What should I do to fix the problem? I appreciate your help. Thanks. Steve
