  1. Finally received the lights today. Someone on Rennlist poited out that the new 997 comes with clear brakelights. In Illinois we have pollution inspection, but not lights etc.
  2. $79.00 an hour is at least a reasonable rate. The local dealer here charges $149.00
  3. :cursing: So I decided to upgrade to clear/smoked third brake lights, and ordered two from Carnewal, one for the standard location and one for the spoiler. Gert sent them out Fed EX and they were supposed to arrive in 2 days. Then they hit customs and were stopped. Need a DOT approval, Fed Ex sent me a form to fill out giving me 12 options as to why a non-approved part or car was being imported, and a copy of the regulations showing up to 5 years in jail and/or a $10,000 if falsified. Option include won't ever drive car, foreign citizen, will export vehicle, etc. etc. etc. Gert says they randomly check shipments and all he has to do is give them the VIN so don't fill out the form. He has been great, and I think he has given them the info required. ButT 2 days later, the lights are still in a customs hold. Lets remember, these are clear brake light, but they light up red, so whats the big deal. Gosh, I feel so much safer that DOT is so careful. Now if it was illegal drugs or explosives I would probably have them by now, but not non-DOT approved brake lights, God forbid!! I expect in a few more days and several hours and hundreds of dollars of Customs, Fed EX and our time I will probably get them, but it sure seems like a poor use of resources given all the other things they could be focusing on. So it goes.
  4. I recently completed the OBC hack using a footwell light switch (996.613.980.00) and the Computer functions are no problem. However, I have not been able to get the lights on the switch to work. I am not concerned about the bright light that would show that the footwell light was on, but rather the back lighting that goes on with the headlights/dashlights. I also recently completed the dash spoiler switch mod and got that switch to light up per the DIY. But when I used the same wiring configuration on the new switch no luck. Does anyone have a solution?
  5. Give me an email address or PM me and I can send you a word doc with the diagram. It is small but if you view it at 500% it is legible. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> targamanf - I tried to PM you with the doc. I don't know if it went through. Let me know

  7. It seems to me a new engine, with zero miles is better for future resale than an older, higher mileage engine with a history of RMS replacement. I don't think this will be a problem in resale.
  8. Thanks for the note. I think this is Peter Fischer's shop. I used him for years before he moved from Winnetka to Barrington.
  9. 996.552.339.00-01C List price $4.85, $3.01 at Sunset Porsche. The shipping will be more than the part so you might want to buy it locally. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The number I gave you 996.552.339.00.01C show on my PET and price list as the correct one, and I just did them change myself. It fit perfectly. I did not use the backets at the AC control unit fit so tightly I did not need them. The part n8umber in Loren's part also shows up at a AC trim. Don't know the difference.

  11. I recently priced out the parts for retrofitting heated seats to my cab. The local dealer (The Exchange) gave me a quote, and I got one from Sunset Porsche. Sunset sells for cost plus 15%. When I compared the prices I discovered that not only was Sunset selling at the discounted price, but the dealer referenced was consistently 23-24% over the list price established by Porsche. I have confirmed this with a 10/05 Porsche price list. Amazing!!! I used to give them my business, even paid the $149.00/hr. labor rate, but this 25% part mark-up is too much!
  12. :drive: Anyone in the Chicago area who has a PST2 or a PIWIS. Loren tells me this is what I need to reset my airbag light. He says it is a 1 minute job if you have the right tool.
  13. Loren - I am just north of Chicago. Know anyone with the P tool in this area?
  14. I complete the wiring for the mod to install switches for the engine compartment fan and the rediator fans found on Renntech. This involves running wires from the ground legs (#85) of relay #8 for the engine compartment fan and relays #20 and #22 for the radiator fans to a switch location, and another to ground. In orfer to try for a Factory look I elected to use footwell light tip switches (996.613.980.00). However, the fans only run while I hold the switch down. Apparently there is no ON and Off position. Any suggestions or solutions with these switches or are the just incompatible for this use?
  15. Loren - Thanks for your help. I am thinking that when I reconnected the battery to test other mods before reinstalling the it probaly came up with the fault. I know a local shop that has the PST2 tool and seem to be very friendly. Hopefully they will not charge to much. Live and learn
  16. I changed my steering wheel and air bag, along with many other mods (dash spoiler switch, added heated seats, cupholder, fan switches). After reassembling everything the air bag light was on, tried removing the bag and reinstalling, removed steering wheel and reinstalled, reinstalled old airbag, still have light on no matter what. Any suggestions on what to do, or do I go to the dealer or another service provider.
