  1. Good point. If you check when 'cool', will the dipstick and instrument guage over or underestimate the value?
  2. So I added 0.5 L of oil, and checked the level on the on-board computer. It showed one mark over the minimum. I then added the other half a liter of oil and checked again. This time the level on the computer showed 3 marks under maximum. So I left it at this level. The next morning however I checked the computer, and to my suprise the oil level now shows all bars full (ie over the max!). This is confirmed by dipstick. I don't understand how I could go from below minimum to over maximum with only 1 liter of oil. It was my understanding that the difference between min and max is 1.33 quarts = 1.25 liters. Any explanations? Should I be concerned about this degree of overfill? Thanks
  3. This might be a silly question.. however what is the 'normal' functioning of the oil pressure guage. Mine is always at '5' on my Carrera 4 02'. Sometimes when the car is really warmed up it will move jump down to '3' when I shift. However the rest of the time it just sits at '5'. Thanks
  4. Thanks for help. Porsche service states that the on board computer is more accurate. Suggest adding more oil. They say it is safe to drive. However, I am a little concerned even if this is simply a low oil situation. I just had my oil changed about 1500 km ago. I'm worried may have an oil leak. Where should I be looking. have not seen any oil patches on the asphalt. Thanks Mike
  5. Ok, well as far as I know the engine was never replaced. The vehicle is under warranty. I obtained it a few months ago, and have put about 3000 km on it up to now without this warning occurring. I get the feeling that it might be a bad oil sensor. Do you think my vehicle is safe to drive? The dipstick repeatedly shows the oil level to be ok. Thanks Mike
  6. Hi there. I was driving along tonight, and on came a warning. It showed the oil can symbol, and said "Failure Indicator". So I was concerned, so I pulled over. I checked the oil level on the on-board computer and it showed it to be just below the minimum line. I then got out of the vehicle and checked the oil level with the dipstick. On the dipstick the oil was near the 'max line'. Looked fine. I was only a couple kilometers from home so I drove home. No problems, but the Oil "Failure Indicator" came on again when i started the car. The vehicle seemed to operate correctly otherwise. Any Ideas? Is my car safe to drive? Thanks Oh, I have a 2002 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. Mike
  7. I had this exact same problem with my 01' Boxster. Over the phone they thought I would need to get a new ignition, but when I brought the car in it was actually a really easy fix.
  8. Is this B&M Shifter that much of an improvement over the stock shifter?
  9. The reason I ask is because I think I can put the mufflers on. If the dealer is only going to charge 2 hours for the electrical, that sounds like a pretty good deal.
  10. I inquired at my local dealer about installing time for a Porsche Sport exhaust with the cutoff switch. They told me the time would be 6 hours for the exhaust + 2 hours electircal for the cutoff. This doesn't sound right to me. I verified that they didn't mean 2 for the exhaust and 6 for the electrical. Thoughts?
  11. Hi, I've got a couple probably silly questions... 1) Aluminum pedals - are they difficult to install (ie could I do it!) Are all aluminum pedals created equal or are some better than others? What should I look for/avoid? 2) My C4 Cab has oval tail pipes. I like the look of the twin turbo 'double' pipes. Would these fit on my C4 Cab (2002). I'm thinking of getting the PSE as well, so would they fit on my C4 Cab with PSE. Thanks
  12. I just did a garage door opener for my 02' C4 .. piece of cake! I used the oval opening beside the headlight dial on the drivers side. Pried out the oval cover, trimmed down some of the plastic in the back. Drilled two 1/4" holes in it. Bought a push button switch and an LED from radio shack. Took apart my garage door opener and took the circuit board out. Wired the button switch and the LED to the board.. Wrapped it in electrical tape, stuffed it in the hole, and clipped the oval cover back in place! Thanks for all the great tips and ideas on the board... Mike
  13. Well, I discovered the bodyshop had put the left one on the right side and the right on the left, so it of course didn't fit right! Thanks for help
  14. Hi, I have a 2002 Carrera 4 Cabriolet. When I use the windshield wipers, on the setting of 'intermittent', there is a tic sound when the wiper starts, and a toc when it returns back to rest. It is a very quiet noise and sounds innocuous. However, it doesn't make this sound when the wipers are in the other 'continous' modes. Is this normal, or does it sound like it could be a problem? Thanks Mike
  15. That's a good idea, but here in BC, Canada you don't order plates. If you lose one you have to pay and get two brand new ones with different numbers. Take care Will check the parts number to see. Thanks
  16. I will look, the bodyshop put them on. Is there a way to tell them apart? I would imagine if they were put on upside down, then you could put them on the wrong side or something. Thanks for quick reply.
  17. I have a 2002 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, which I recently installed the Aerokit Cup II front bumper. I am having trouble with the front license plate holder. It seems not to fit the contour of the Aerokit bumper, and doesn't fit 'flush'. Is there a different front license holder available for this bumper? PS Suggesting to just put plugs in is not very helpful for me because I live where a front license plate is mandated by law! Thanks for any help Mike
