  1. Promotive.. I see you have a 997 TT as well. Love to see pictures!!! Still need to spend time datalogging and send the file to Promotive for more refinements...
  2. If you really want a lot more power trade the car in and buy a turbo. And if that still is not enough throw a chip, GT2 exhaust, and heavy duty diverter vales on the car - and you can likely come close to 700 HP. Then save your money for tires... :jump: :jump: :jump:
  3. That is correct... The MAFS are no longer in use. Rather that trying to explain it (which I probably can't) here is an article on MAF vs Speed Density... Pros and cons. Although it's not an article specific to Porsche the principles are the same.. http://www.pcmforless.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=126:speed-density-sd-vs-mass-air-flow-maf-&catid=34:tuning&Itemid=56 For my ECU tune I have a "MAF less" file. This basically elimanates information from the MAF sensors and the DME does the load calculations... If I want to use the MAF system again I just reload the file and plug the MAF's back in.. An interesting foot note.. The new 991 runs Speed Density and no longer uses the MAF system... All the best! Phillip
  4. I love responding to my own posts... Here is a bad picture I took this morning with my phone of the lowered car.. It will sit a bit lower once the springs settle. I'm very happy with it...
  5. Just got my car back.. Installed the H & R springs and the second version of the Promotive ECU tune. Big thanks to my friend Richard Lim for his help and expertise with my car. He's amazing... The car is now running the "MAFless" tune. It now runs "Speed Density", The idle is smoother and throttle response is quicker.. The car is very fast. Now I have a REAL ECU tune. Huge difference!!! I can break loose all four wheels in 1st and 2nd.. It really throws you back in the seat... I like it....It's nasty... The ride is very decent with the lowering springs.. The car looks SOOOO much better without that huge gap between the tires and fenders. Lowered it about an inch. I will get it aligned in two weeks, Although my friend Richard would like to do more (mods) my wallet is exhausted... For now... Exhaust and intercoolers will be next... I'll take pics and post them..... (Another Turbo post that nobody will respond to :blush: )
  6. I have the factory short shift in my Turbo. I love it.. I drove one without recently and it felt really strange.. Well worth the money I'd say...
  7. Cassiebox is correct. There is a fastener on either side (end). The rest of the lip attaches with little clips that come with the lip. Super easy to install or remove.. Take you 10 to 15 minutes.. I actually get mine cheaper through my indie that ordering it myself through Sunset or Suncoast. He gets it from the nearby dealer and doesn't mark it up and installs it for me for free.. :king: I wish they sold them in "six packs". I go through them rapidly on my car.. :thumbup: Buy a carbon or painted lip at your own risk.. Pretty hard not to damage them even when you're very careful.. The black plastic is quite durable.. Wow $66.00 for the Carrera? The Turbo lip costs $259.00. Gotta love that...

  9. Use what the factory recommends. You can't go wrong with that. Many folks that have used non approved fluids in both manual and Tips's have had bad experiences. Why take the chance.... The same fluid my be available through Audi or VW (under a different part #) at a cheaper price.. Hopefully someone will chime in and help you with this option.

  11. Please make sure you are not losing coolant.. Logray and Loren are probably right about the switch.. I lost an engine because failed water pump.... Just erring on the side of caution...
  12. Maurice, Just to update this... My dealer has contacted me and is in the process of getting me a refund from the shop that did the work (or didn't do the work.). I'll let you know it turns out...What a PITA.

  15. Well I just recently found out that I got screwed and didn't even know it. When I bought the car I had my dealer (independant) have the ECU flashed, (later I was told the software used was GIAC). The baffles removed from the exhaust and a BMC air filter as well as a the 40K service. I paid an addtional $2,200 for the ECU and the exhaust... When I got the car I was thrilled because it was faster than before. Well... It turns out that all that was done was the addition of a little electronic box called a "Turbo Tuner" That attaches to the Y pipe. I found this out from having my new friend drive my car. He has had many turbos and is extremely knowledgable. Especially about mods... He drove my car about 100 yards and stopped and looked at me and said "you do not have an ECU tune".. Oh Boy.... He said "take off the "Turbo tuner" and drive your car. Then go to your dealer and drive another stock turbo". I did.... and mine was the same as stock..... I felt like such an idiot... This is my first Turbo and I didn't have anything to compare it to. I am currently in "negotiations" with my dealer to try as he said "to make things right"... He farmed this work out... I don't really know who is to blame... But I didn't get what I asked for or paid for...Arrrggghhhh.... :cursing: I really hate getting screwed... So moving on... I have ordered the "Promotive" tune for my ECU. Comes with multiple maps including Mafless, race gas and Methanol. 80hp on pump gas and 130 on race gas, Adding H & R springs.. Will lower car an inch. Also adding 13mm spacers in the rear and 7mm in the front. I will post pictures when complete.. I'll also review the "proper" ECU tune..
  16. Logray, Dntlvet, There are a lot of folks who make Angeles Crest their "proving ground". The roads are awesome but it still scares the heck out of me because it's a public road and unpredictable. I"m currently having my new friend Richard (who I mentioned in the original post with the blinding fast turbo) help me to make my car handle better. He really is quite the mad scientist with turbos and a VERY good driver (and a super nice guy.) After I get rid of my horrible understeer I'll do a DE. Buying myself a new ECU tune for my birthday.. Turns out I never had a proper flash.. But that's a subject for another post.. I love nice birthday gifts from myself...I'm always quite generous.. :thumbup:

  18. If it's the standard knob without set screw, don't smack yourself in the chin or face when you are pulling it up. It does take a little bit of force to remove it. This always makes me laugh because I almost knocked my self out doing this ....

  20. Bottom line is unless you want to open a can of worms let the stock MAF and stock program handle the fuel mixture for you. Does someone really think a $70 device is going to do something better than the result of multi-millions of dollars Porsche put into R&D? Well said my friend...
