  1. Loren, is there any test for an iacv? Resistance etc???
  2. Thanks Loren. Was hoping if anyone knew it would be you! Thanks anyway for your help.
  3. Does anyone know what the idle valve frequency should be in herz?
  4. thanks guys thats really given me some food for thought!
  5. Hi I've a Boxster track car with a 5 speed transmission. I'm thinking of upgrading it to a 6 speed from a Boxster S. Does anyone have any comments on any disadvantages. Are there any appreciable weight dfferences / installation issues? Cheers Marcus
  6. Hi there I've recently swapped to a coil over setup. Stupidly, I didn’t take any stock measurements on the standard setup before I fitted the new suspension. I've researched a range of settings which go from minus 10mm for use on bumpy roads to a drop of -30mm for race / trackday setups. I believe the new Spyder is dropped 20mm. However I don’t have a base measurement to go from. I don’t like the way Porsche quotes the ride heights from an underbody point as it doesn’t take into account any variance in wheel / tyres diameters, and is also a complete pig to measure. Can anyone get a tape measure and measure the height front and rear from the wheel centre to wing/fender point vertically above the wheel. Let me know if you are on standard, row or m030 specs, etc? Thanks Marcus
  7. Hi Does anyone know what the bump/rebound damper rates are for the GT3 Mk2 front bilstein insert / damper? Thanks Marcus
  8. Hi some technical info is needed here... Obviously the drive comes out in a different direction in the 996 box to that of the Boxster. In other transaxles there is often an option to reverse the Crown Wheel and pinion positions to switch the drive direction. Has anyone stripped a 996 C2 gearbox or that of a Boxster to see if this is posible ???
  9. Hi Does anyone know if 996 GT3 Cup doors will fit a standard 996? There's a pair on eBay: GT3 Cup Doors - Boxster GT3 Its going to be used for track days so not too worried about the lack of....etc. Thanks Peter
  10. If you mean are the ignition coils actually step-up "transformers" then the answer is yes. But externally the 12 volt battery voltage is "amplified" via a DC to DC inverter to ~300 volts and that is used as the coil primary "switched" voltage. 12 volts to ~300 volts to ~25,000 volts. Thats great thanks for the info. Marcus
  11. Can anyone tell me if coils on a 2002 3.6 Carrera are internally or externally amplified? thanks Marcus
  12. Hi Does anyone know what the is the position of the crank sensor relative to engine top dead centre. It should always be before TDC. It can be anywhere in 360 degrees of crank rotation. I need this position to setup an aftermarket ignition system. Also does anyone know if its a Hall Effect or Magnetic / VR type sensor? Thanks for any information. Marcus
  13. Thanks Todd. I've retimed the valve lift actuation, and its a fair bit better but I'm missing out on a lot this engine can offer. I think I may be tempted to follow you down the Bosch 7.8DME and canbus conversion route. I dont think I'm going to be able to get the all round driveability & torque band out of the engine without spending vast time mapping & remapping all the various controller permutations. Have you uncovered any articles on swapping to 7.8DME from 5.2.2. My limited knowledge led me to believe I need an eGas throttle pedal & throttle body, and canbus wiring from DME to a newer model 2003 onwards dash instrument cluster and obviously the new 7.8DME & engine wiring harness. Any information is greatly recieved. Cheers Marcus
  14. Thanks Todd. I've been driving my 3.6 around for the last few days with a manual rpm conroller set for the resonance valve & variocam plus lift set at about 3100 rpm. What I notice is it comes in with a huge surge of power. I have OBD2 monitoring and the fuel trims look ok before & after the vtec point, so I think it may indicate that my normal variocam timing may not be activated properly by the DME. I know your going 5.2.2 for emission reasons, but you know if 5.2 can activate later 4 phase variocam correctly? doing some more research I found that: "Actuation of the valve takes place via a pulse-width-modulated square-wave signal. The voltage is switched between 0 volts and 12 volts in 4ms cycles (250 Hz), while the proportion of switch-on and switch-off time is changed. A control current adjusts itself according to this proportion, which sets the piston position in the solenoid hydraulic valve and thereby releases the different oil lines, facilitating an adjustment range of 0 °kW up to approx. 40 °kW." Any thoughts on this? Thanks Marcus
  15. Thanks Todd. Did you have a 996 3.4 reflash onto your Boxster Ecu to run the 3.6?
  16. The resonance valve pin on the DME I believe is 59. On my Boxster 2.5, I dont seem to be getting a ground signal through this at any rpm. Anyone know if the ecu needs to be reprogrammed to get this pin to operate?
  17. Hi I've had my 3.6 waiting in my garage to go in to my 2.5 Boxster which I hope to do over xmas. What sort of signal are you going to provide to the variocam solenoid? I assume its not a straight nothing or 5volts as the solenoid appears to have 4 phase settings... I believe the cam extra lift 'Plus' part is a straight 5v on to activate it. Thanks Marcus
  18. Right, I've had a chance to take a look at the 3.6 engine and have some queries / questions regarding sensor functions. In the pics can anyone confirm the role of the sensors numbered in the pics, my "guesses" at the moment are: 1. (to top right of number 1 box) : Valve timing adjustment 2. (to top left of number 2 box) : Valve lift adjustment 3. (to left of box) Oil Pressure 4. (to left of box) ???? 5. (to top left of box) Knock Sensor Can anyone help on this? Thanks Marcus
  19. Thanks Loren for the links. I had previously seen what was said said in those useful threads. I guess I just want to take the harder option & get the 3.6 working rather than opting for a stroker conversion or less complicated 3.4 upgrade. 3.6 is generally viewed this way as a more reliable unit than the 3.4, gives more power, and a stroker conversion would still need remapping. larger valves, diff cam etc Seeing as I have an unemployed 2003 3.6ltr sat in my garage at home, I'm keen to get started on getting it prepped to go into the car. I'll take some snaps of any sensors that I'm unsure of, post them here and hopefully someone can identify them. Thanks Marcus
  20. I'm doing an engine swap into a 2.5 Boxster, and could use a wiring diagram to speed up sorting whats where on the engine. I need advice to try and sort out what if anything the original ecu can run, and what other functions such as Variable Valve Lift and eGas I need to sort additional controllers or Ecus for. As its for a semi-track car, it doesnt need the total mapped refinment of the original. eGas will probably be swapped for a cable throttle assembly. Rpm mapped controllers may well suffice for intake valve & Variocam Plus functions. Any advice or knowledge would be helpful. I believe my ecu is a Motronic 5.2.2, has anyone managed to remap these? Thanks Marcus
  21. Can anyone give me an engine wiring diagram for 2003 3.6 996 engine? Thanks Marcus
