  1. Dear All, Does anyone know where I can get clear dial needles for the boxster from instead of the red ones. I am planning on doing the Noble Modification of having the needles turn a different colour when a peak rev is hit. I will share this mode with you once done many thanks Russ
  2. Why have you seen them for that price percymon??
  3. Hi Guys, Ok Ok Ok, I get the hint, but obviously mix and match tyres are not a good idea, but they are not life threatening. Automotive design engineers (which I am degree qualified in) design the geometric properties of vehicles suspension to be safe under a whole load of legislation criteria, the simple fact of having different tread depths and tyre manufactures on a vehicle will not drop the handling safety of a vehicle to a point of being highly dangerous, do you know of any vehicles that are on the road this second, including sports cars and super cars that have perfectly matched depths, I think not. Providing tyres are designed to a good coefficient of friction, then no matter what; they will adhere to the road surface. Even under wet conditions, although some tyres are bad and others are good in these conditions, they are all designed with the same target in mind, to prevent a layer of water separating the tyre from the road. I can understand these points for race track cars where tyres loads are heavily increased. I have just brought property abroad so hence the saving of money, and I simply asked between the two choices I stated what would be the best. I have been running on Dunlop’s on the rear and Michelins on the front for 8 months now, and its the best handling Boxster I have had so far, out of 5, even with the fronts being extremely low on tread, it still handles outstandingly. If any one can offer they suggestions on the initial choices I would appreciate it, but I’m guessing most of you will lean towards buying new tyres and not part worn so I think I will get the Kuhmos.
  4. Phil, I have to say mate, fair play to your reply, you have summed it up exactly to the point. So I think, even though I have got Dunlops on the rear and its not idea to mix and match, I think Im going to go for a brand new set of Kumho 711 (225/40 ZR18 88W BSW) tyres rather than the part work dunlop sp sport 9000 many thanks for your help all Russ
  5. Hi guys, At present Im running Dunlop Sp Sport 9090 on the rears, and Michelin Piolt Sport on the front. Its the fronts that have worn - 225/40/R18 I guess the dunlops would be the better choice to match the rears, but is it not better get brand new tyres of the cheaper brands I wrote. Will 5-6mm tread on the part worn dunlops last for quite a while?? Many thanks Russ
  6. Hey Guys, After some advice I have the chance to buy a set of Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tyres for the front of my boxster S (225/40 R18) for £115. They are part worn and have 5 - 6mm of tread left, or for slight more (about £150) I could get some cheap brand new tyres, such as, Kumho ECSTA 711, Centurio, Nankang, Linglong, or Falken (all of similar value of around £70 per tyre) What do you recommend I do?? Many thanks Russ

  8. Hi Guys, Quick question, notice a few of you have mentioned the cheap and cheerful "Falkens" tyres. What are your experieces with these?? Many thanks Russ
  9. Hi guys, just a very quick question about the mod that can be done on the exhaust by which you add two relief pipes from the inlet to the silence to the outlet. I have a boxster s and was wondering what the sound is like if you do this mod, does it still hold that unique porsche sound but slightly deeper, or does it sound loud, and boy racer like? many thanks RH
  10. so its just the con rod shells wearing out, thats a common fault of most engines, I believe most con-rod shells are made from white metal, which is designed to wear. Question, maybe laurn or toolpants can help with this one. Is it a difficult DIY task to drop the engine and replace these yourself?? I can imagine (depending on the engine design) that all you need to do is split the oil sump from the bottom to access the crack shaft, then unbolt each con-rod at the big end (crank shaft end) and fit new shells. I have done this on other engines before quite easily. I might even have access to a ramp if that helps? Any comments guys?? Cheers
  11. When you say engine rod bearing, do you mean the crack shaft bearing, or the con rod bearing?? Either way, are these not just shall's that can be replaced??
  12. yeah sorry, didnt think about that. Its a Boxster S MY00 with 78K on the clock. many thanks
  13. Hi everone, hope you are all well. Just after some help / advice. I know this is gard to diagnose with out seeing / hearing the car, but wondered if there are any ideas that is might be or any tests I can do. Basically I am getting a knocking sound from the engine, it only seems to be at idle, and is more evident if you get on the floor and listen from under the car. Its kind of like the knocking noise you get when you start stalling the engine? Do you have any suggestions? Many thanks Russ
  14. Hi All, I know this is a really old post but just wanted to add. I have took all 3 strips off tonight with ease, Unscrewed them and not damaged them. It was easy, you have to bend yourself a bit, but I have big hands and managed to do it. Just painting them in artic silver now Cheers Russ

  18. Does anyone know how the romote window close works? Couple of questions, Does it have a seperate signel wire from the alarm control unit that activates the window motors - if so what colour is it and where does it go to on the window system? If the signal wire use by any other system, or is it solely for the remote window shut system. Many thanks Russ
